ROTQM03: Return of the Quantum Monkies

Blessed be Monkey, Great Sage, Equal of Heaven. Fantastic, Ruff. I like your wall a lot. Did we have to siphon troops off of the northern cities to create it, or just Mr. Teeneyville? Let's remember that Spain really likes to drop troops off in our back yard.

Official Duty Roster:

Rex Tyrannus: The wabbits are coming huway, huway!
GreyFox: Abandoned by his ancestors for forgetting Monkey, GS, EoH.
Ruff Hi: Picking axels and horseshoes out of elephant poo.
Pholkhero: All dressed up with no one to blow.
negyvenketto: Hasn't stopped rockin' to the bang bang boogey in three years.
Lobster Boy: Proof that adults *can* wear Incredible Hulk Underoos without getting laughed at.

Good turns, ruff. Re the archers experiment, the more archers the better I think. There are simply too many enemy units for one archer to handle.

Re: the promotion "exploit" I have been doing that for a long time, I don't think its an exploit. If you are entitled to promotion at the beginning of the turn, you are entitled to do so after you moved your unit. The risk you run with this is that the unit may lost a battle which would have you start wondering if the battle result has been different if you'd promoted it before you attack.

But this tactic is not necessary for most of our infantry which has the heal-while-moved promotion. As long as they don't lose too much strength, they will be automatically healed the beginning of next turn.

I missed a landing of a sword or two by spain but luckily that archer just gained experence. One sword still roaming the country but there is an axe that is set to clean him up next round.

The Northern wall was made up from units either build during my turn set or pulled from Monkeyshine. I think they all have Woodsman II (ex-infantry) and so should prove fairly good against the units we currently face.

Good point. However, I was looking at a city defender or woodsman promotion which does squat for attack battle odds.

Scene Opens.
Exterior: Mr Teeny's home as the sound of gunfire and metal clanking on metal are overheard.

TEENY: Ah ha ha HAAAAA! Terrific! Battle, this is what i crave! Kong, we are WINNING! What sort of idiots send in warriors armed only with metal weapons against rifles?!?

DIDDY: Uhh, humans, sir?

TEENY: Hah! Too right, Kong, too right! What's the latest?

DIDDY: Well, we lost a couple primitive warriors, ones who were gaurding our backrank cities, but we've cleared the area of human chariots. Other than that, we've been counter-attacking at every oppurtunity, as you said. So far, we've kill many, many warriors, but there's still a sizeable force outside the gates of the city.

TEENY: My city, you mean, Kong. It's MR TEENY-ville, remember.

DIDDY: Yes, sir. We've also --

He is cut-off by the appearance of a breathless runner.

RUNNER: Announcing, his High Simianness, Mr Chimps!

In strides Mr Chimps, Cornelius, JoJo and other main characters i've forgotten to add.

TEENY: Mr Chimps! (He salutes) Have you come to see how we deal with humans in this part of our lands?

CHIMPS: Teeny! There's been terrible news! The humans . . . they've destroyed Chimpsopolis.

Diddy gasps; Teeny is forced to sit.

TEENY: They've . . . they've . . . what?!? How?

CHIMPS: The humans brought in vessels to the north, around Chimpsopolis, and landed to our west, just outside our iron mines. We never stood a chance. All of our troops had been sent south to deal with the human army here.

TEENY: Here?!? Are you kidding? We've got 4 battalions of infantrychimps! What do we need of your primitive warriors? Why send them --

CHIMPS: Enough! (Teeny falls silent, but looks rebellious.) I had done what I thought best. If your outpost here fell, then the whole of our kingdom would be done --

TEENY: And what now?! We've lost the library, we've lost--

CHIMPS: SILENCE! (Chimps bares his teeth this time) Don't you think I know what i've done?!? Don't you think the deaths of those chimps weigh on my soul? Chimps that trusted me . . . depended on me . . .

TEENY (more quiet now): But sir, the library. Are we . . . stuck here?

CORNELIUS: I don't think so. I don't think the humans could access it, just as we can't, so there's no danger of them being able to use the knowledge or technology. But we need to get back there . . . we need to re-establish the base . . .

The assembled chimps turn and look at Mr Chimps, who is staring wistfully out the window. Several look at each other nervously.

CORNELIUS (in a whisper): He's been like this since the fall of the city. What should we do?

TEENY: (to CHIMPS) Sir?

Mr Chimps continues to stare out the window.

CHIMPS (under his breath, barely audible): How . . . how . . . how . . .

The sad, sad save

i missed the landing of those troops up north with all the other action happening down south ~ i didn't notice until it was too late. I had just finished a spear up there, but having only an archer there to begin with, it didn't stand too much of a chance.

Truly, a royal f- up on my part . . . but at least it adds drama :D

Do we still have a settler off near the horses? - it looks from the pictures that we do and he has an archer support too. I didn't found a city there on my turn - decided it was too expensive.

Which city is now the capital???

mr teenyville is.

the settler should be up there. i didn't move him.

Aye carrumba! Pholk's luck is spreading to this game too! Even if we re-settle, they'd do the same for us. We might want to wait until a more modern time. Let us pray to Zophos that an event is nigh.

Let us pray to Zophos that an event is nigh.
i have feeling one is near, but i don't think it'll be for another couple sets.

however, we've got at least 30 units there around our city. I'm not sure what the AI restrictions are re: upgrading units, but if they can upgrade in our territory as well as with the negligible cost to do so, well, then ~ we're sunk.

Wow. I didn't expect that! I say resettle that site ASAP! We don't want the AI to settle up there, then have to deal with upgraded defenders after the next event.

Boy the AI is sure pouring it on. That infantry sure has his work cut out for him. No surprise the galleys coming on your shores. I don't think that the AI could upgrade in your cultural borders but what stops them from just returning to theirs and coming back. Good luck guys the monkeys will need it.

well, zophos has been on the board since i posted so i don't think there'll be an event before your set, Negy. i would just play and correct my mistakes.

Teeny: Sir, we have established New Chimpsepolis! Do you want to move your throne room to the ancient/new city? Suprisingly it hasn't been pillaged.

Mr. Chimps: Well, I like your town very much. I suppose the ruins of my old palace still smell from the excrement of ...
Teeny: I can understand you, Sir.
Mr. Chimps: Also I want to rise the moral of our troops with my presence here, where it's needed most.
Teeny: Thank you, Sir.

Sorry gents, I didn't start the autolog  It would be boring, anyway. Lots of fight, mostly won. Lost 2 axes against ~80% odds. But we have got iron again, (except Mr. Teenyville) we can replace them quickly.

FYI: My in-laws will be visiting between now and Saturday, so I may not be able to play until late in the weekend. I will be working on Fri. morning, so if negy can play by then, I should be able to pick up the save and play on Sat. night.

edit:
Creiky! Negy posted while I was writing! I won't pick up the save for a while to give Zophos a chance to intervene.

Very well done, Mr. Venketto. How did the AI get to catapults so quickly??? We're boned.

This is Thanksgiving weekend for those of us in the states. I imagine most of us will be out of the pocket until Monday or so. Why don't we get a sound off on who is unavailable...

Monkeys Status

Rex Tyrannus: Parents in town. Mom won't stay out of my kitchen. Unavailable.
GreyFox: Is there a national gluttony day in Singapore? Available.
Ruff Hi: Part Aussie, part Yankee. What's it gonna be? Status Unknown.
Pholkhero: Probably looking for an excuse to get away from his family. Status Unknown.
negyvenketto: European, right? Swiss? Available.
Lobster Boy: Hopefully not stuffing his Mother-in-law in the closet. Unavailable.

Lobster can't play until Sunday. I can't until Monday. Fox would be up, but I'd be fine if anyone wanted to take a break. I'll leave it up to him.
