Sausage Feast 07'

What's wrong with that, frob?

Some of the best traditional sausages are made from blood and organs.

Sausages are and should be composed of random animal stuff including things other then meat.

You are right, of course. Blood and some organs are good, insofar as they are part of an actual planned recipe for sausage (see e.g. "blodkorv" above)

It's the "random" part I don't like ;)

[EDIT] I should point out that the label in question is found on e.g. standard hotdog wieners and not the special sausage types in which non-meat animal products are part of the actual recipe.

What's so bad about deviating from some standard traditional recipe?

And it's not really random, they mae sure it tastes good and stuff (usually).

Planned deviation, as in "oh, let's do some culinary experimentation!", or unplanned, like in "oh, we have a few crates of unused pig testicles and sheep ears. Well, I suppose we'll have to use them.."?

i don't know about sheep ears but i do like the occasional Plate of mountain oysters.

i don't understand how anybody can argue about american or european sausage, The art of making sausage, came from europe. But i will say that it is hard to find a sausage of high quality in the standard american grocery store. I used to have to make my own brauts, that is until the high end organic grocery stores came around several years ago. I remeber making venison sausage one time, i had the Moderator Action: <snip> for weeks after that.

What im saying is if your comparing a hot dog to a good high quality sausage, you are an idiot, i don't care how un American what i just said sounds, oh and beer goes with sausge ive never meet a jackass drinking wine with sausage.

You don't see the hilarious "meta-comment" on American-European political dialogue that is made by reducing it to a "Sausage Comparison Fest"?

either way how can you argue what sausage is biger/better when we all know that it immigrated over here from europe anyways.

American hotdogs are lame. If you're going to pile random meat into a tube, at least do it with flair. Kielbasa all the way!

the original american hotdogs where the best, back in the early 1900's it is believed that clumsy workers may have fallen into the meat prossesing machine. It is specifacly believed that most of the workers were Irish, they would leave their famalies in New york and Boston to go out west to work in the armour meat plants, and the famalies would never here from them agian. spam is essentialy the same thing as a hotdog, and if i rember correctly it was made by a french cheff looking for a way to proces pork shoulder.

god it's sick how much i know about food.

essentilly all a hotdog is just all the bad cuts of meat rolled up into one.

You guys don't know what a hot dog is until you've had a Vienna all beef. For the rest of the country I'd choose brats or kielbasa...here we're spoiled so I can't choose.

Nothing quite like random assortments of meat and other, possibly animal, parts slid into a meaty sock.
As an American, it does hurt me to say I hate hot dogs, but my love for apple pie is sure to make up for this, no? I had wurst, here and in the fatherland, and to me its just a bit more eloquent form of hot dog.
I'll take bratwurst or italian sausage any day of the week. In fact I just had some sweet tasty brats today... they make them with cheese in 'em now!

I could've sworn the title read "Sausage Fest 07'"...

I'm with you there too.. although to be honest, with my mind where it is, feast isn't much better...
