SCH0001 - Learning FFH

If the Horse city spot is moved there then it doesn't work as well as a front with the Sheaim. Call this city spot #4? I'd say 3 -> 4 -> 2 -> 1 just to establish our borders some and then expand north it seems. Or west.

I'm still not sold on city 3. We only block a stretch of jungle from Decius - I'd prefer letting him settle the jungle until we get the techs needed to make that terrain useful, then take it from him. I'd prefer settling 2 first for the economical boost.

Sorry! I did mean 1SW... Must have been a typo! or maybe my brain stopped working from looking at this new tech tree and all :crazyeye:

We all get that a bit. I still wonder if there's anything such as a liberalism race in here... ;)

Hey guys I'll play 20-25 turns today. I agree with the general consensus of settling 3 first, we can discuss further cities from there because we still have some time before we get to the point of settling cities 3-4 and so on.
Also, techwise, do we divert for city states? I'm not sold on that.

Well, I think going for HBR and quickly getting rid of Tebryn could be beneficial, and we could take out Decius later.

Cartography should be teched around the time we plan to attack our first target - thus after HBR, Bronze Working, and the vital economic techs like Education. Before that, I'd say we want Sanitation as well with the current settling plans.

The benefits of City States aren't really needed until we start expanding far away from A-t-M... like, say, Tebryn's capital. :D

And to think earlier we were talking about teching education before brozeworking! Just sounds wrong doesn't it! ;)

I'm thinking the sooner we get HBR and access to ranches/horseman the better. With a ranch & our free commando promotion our horsemen will be able to move 8 tiles per turn on enemy roads! we can start building a decent army while we tech our way to the other stuff prior to attacking our first victim. :hammer:

Looking at this game in general I think you have a lot more time to pull of a rush without siege units, cultural defense bonuses are much lower than in BTS.

Played 19 turns.

30:
Looking in the game log, we have the Cassiel of the Grigori in this game somewhere (Adventurer was born)
Nothing to do but hit enter.

31:
Worker starts a plantation on the reagents.

33:
A dwarven scout bumps into our borders and we meet Arturus Thorne of the Khazad. He came from the N-NW direction.

36:
We finish the scout in A-t-M and start a warrior (need something for military police so we can grow to size 5.)

37:
Crafting -> Mining
We may want to slip a brewery in the queue at some point for the :).
Also this event, good that we have Nature Mana! (Other option is -1:food: IIRC)

41:
Find the Yggdrasil in the west, it's fairly close.

Civ4ScreenShot0000.jpg

Warrior done, start another.

47:
Our brave starting warrior meets a Hill Giant in the desert. Oh well.

48:
Find a Maelstrom in the north near Arturus Thorne.

Civ4ScreenShot0002.jpg

49:
Warrior done and I stop. I want to go settler next (Have that queued tentatively.) Mining is due next turn (our worker is bored :p)

Nice job! I haven't played against Arturus Thorne yet, I dunno how the AI plays him.
I haven't got time to look at the save, but I will soon.

Good job. Couldn't you just go 1 turn further, to finish Mining? That way we could have seen where the copper is. :D

By the looks of it, we can easily grab Yggdrasil (as in, no competition for it) and get that juicy +2 :health: +1 :) fruit for the Hippus. Tebryn's lands, or what's in between us and him, look excellent with lots of calendar resources which means :) :) :) once we kill him off.

I had planned on it but then decided not to put hammers in the settler until we discuss if we're going that direction next.
I will actually hit enter and post a new save after we decide if that is the right decision :p

Yeah that land looks excellent. We want to make sure to settle as many cities as possible on riverside tiles so we can use Breweries for at least +2 :), 3 if we find Wheat somewhere. Our tech-pace should be really smooth as soon as we get through BW and then Education, A-t-M has tremendous commerce potential.

Are you guys saying settle towards Tybryn instead of Desicus? I think we need to start getting the settlers out, we have a few warriors running around now, but we will need Ancient Chants for monuments, unless we have some other way to get culture into our new cities? I never know with this game! :crazyeye:

No, I'm saying settle towards both :p We need Sanitation to get the most of the land between us and Tebryn though.

Also, Thorne appears not to have very much good land (between us is a big patch of desert)

Yeah schwartz I'm fine with a settler; we need to expand.

I vote for the settler as getting a second city online should be good. For techs I think trade gets us Chariots which are, in offense, much better than Horsemen and still get the Horselord promotion with a Ranch. Chariots can use metal weapons, as in get the promotions that increase strength, so even with just bronze weapons they are a 6/4 unit. Chariots might be something to ponder over if the tech for them isn't already in the queue.

Question on patches are we updating to patch D has it doesn't break saves?

Erm, we didn't get any hut gold, and because of that and not having Ancient Chants or Bronze Working yet, I think 1 city is the MAX, and I'd prefer none to keep up 100% science.

Getting through BW, then AC then Edu is long enough without having to run at 90 or 80%, IMO. Sure we want to settle?

Well if we settle 2 first we can get the dyes, and that should boost our research...so it won't take too long.

Definitely a settler next. We've got so much excess food in A-t-M that building settlers is the best option now we've got a decent warrior force up. The maintenance loss for an extra city is -2 gold, tops.

If we're really concerned with the economy, #2 should come first to get an extra dye and maybe trade routes for another +2 (never been sure about the pre-Sailing, pre-road rules  ), plus a relief for our poor bored worker. If blocking Decius still gets the priority, #3 first and #2 directly after that until we get a better way to use all the surplus food..
