SGOTM 15 - Misfit Gypsy Nuts

@Ron- the reason Kyoto goes first is because Kyoto is already starving itself almost to death to get the 3000 cost GArtist. It doesn't have much more capacity to get 3300. Delhi on the other hand has been slowly banking gp, and has 16 pop it could potentially starve away for a final push.

@McA- Sunday sounds good. Think we could get a PPP together for it?

Off-topic- I will be in Denmark this time next week :)

PPP

Planning to play 10-15 turns. Or should I just finish it for us?

Steady as she goes.

Disband our three warriors.
Sell marble to hammuragawa.
Build two more musketmen, in Pataliputra, and then switch to wealth.
Research: Chemistry -> MilScience???

Stop conditions: Someone declaring war on us. A SOD from Genghigawa arrives.

Follow the plan as laid out by adrianj.
You know, I think we can do it, with Delhi producing the 14th GPerson on T235.

T219: Vijay - steady as she goes. Speed up if you like, might help it run merchants sooner.
T226: Agra - same as Vijay.

T229: Varanasi - need to time it with some starvation so that it beats Kyoto, but doesn't beat Agra.

T234: Kyoto - We need to slowly dwindle away its food reserves, and then just after Varanasi pops (T230) Kyoto should assign entire population as artists.

T235: Delhi - Same as Kyoto, it should dwindle away its food, and then make sure it stays as close to Kyoto as possible without going in front of it. On the last turn (T235) assign entire population for a total of 17 artists. It gives 61 raw :gp:, which is 213 after modifiers. Providing it was VERY close behind Kyoto (ie, no less than 2987/3000 :gp:) then it should pop. Whether or not it is an artist or not is a bit more up to chance.

If Delhi fails, all that means is Bombay needs to produce culture at its own speed, which means we win ~T239 instead of T236.

Question: How much does the 21st Great Person actually cost? The 20th costs 3000. Does the 21st cost 3200 or 3300? I have assumed 3200, but that could be wrong.

It's Turn 214 now. If things work out per aj's spreadsheet for the GA, it's probably no more than 25 turns to the Victory!

OK by me if you want to go ahead and finish it out. If you do, could you please post the autosave from the turn before Victory, so everyone can play the final Victory for themselves?

EDIT: x-post with Oz

Agree; at current research rate, it would take over 40 turns to finish Biology, because we need Chemistry & Scientific Method as well.

Might come close on Military Science. Two turns to finish Replaceable Parts, and 8 turns for Chemistry + 11 turns for Military Science. 21 turns total might be possible depending on how the Great Artists work out.

I strongly suggest for this turnset. Before pressing enter beg 1 gold from Ham and HC. Hamm has just gone into wheeoh and could declare on us this turn. Not saying he will but its a possibility. Keep an eye for a stack from HC through Egyptian lands.

Tech finish rp then rifles. We should have enough research to finish rifles in about 15ish turns so if need be emergency drafting whipping etc.

I would keep Palit on military.

Yep if no problems finish out the game but if you could upload the save before winning that would be good.

Good Luck.

Tech: If we don't already have Rifling, I definitely think that is the way to go.

I also agree with Sleepless - try begging 1:gold: off Hammu. A DoW from him would be most unsettling.

Everything else in the PPP looks good :goodjob:

Well still impatient to hear our progress ;)

Have checked out the results page again...

Maple Sporks have now passed our expected finish date (they are at 1715), Unusual Suspects still going as well (at 1550AD). Kakumeika and OSS have inched further along, so may still be going (at 720 and 1110 respectively).

Yes.......how is it going?

Well looking at the progress results looks like most of the teams are going religious (or possibly UN). No massive power spikes from the teams below us. Well PD have but assume they used their troops to take a city, change it to Hindu and gift back for peace... :dunno:.

Possibility as well of bulbing very fast to Lib and gifting techs around to get AI into FR as per Hammie etc. So want to see how teams have done this so.....

McArine where are you??? ;)

Only kidding but if there is a problem playing please pass on the save.

With the great works of the Great Artists, Amir Khusro, Frank Kafka, Antonin Dvorak, Ibn Muqlah, Claude Monet, Jalal al-Din Rumi, Thespis, Johannes Vermeer, Ludwig Van Beethoven, Dante Alighieri, Miguel de Cervantes, Yunus Emre, Michaelangelo and Ling Lun, we have won :D

It was an entirely boring turnset. The most exiting thing that happened, was when the Egyptian city of Satsuma wanted to join us. I disbanded it, and got two longbowmen from it :)
I was also able to grab an early peace, that got us a bit of gold.

Otherwise it was mostly just micromanaging and hitting enter.
I did do a couple of tech trades in the end, to improve our score a bit.

The last artist cost 3300, so it took two more turns to generate. Otherwise the artist plan was great ;-)
I am also sorry that we didn't finish 1 turn earlier. I could have started starving Bombay earlier, and then we wouldn't have needed the last artist from Delhi.

Thanks all for a very interesting game, I've learned loads about playing a cultural game :D

Yay! Thanks for finishing it out McA :goodjob:

1640 AD. As far as cultural games go, that is actually really good.

Have we notified Alan or Neil?

Well done McArine.... Sorry the last turmset was boring but glad to.. :) Imagine the stack Liz used to take out GK's if that would have come at us the same time!!!

So Hammie declared on Cyrus. Didn't think it would be us but!!!!

Well done everbody.. :hatsoff:

Way to go, Nuts!!! :)

Very impressive Cultural Victory under these tough conditions...

The current state of play (as far as I can tell)

Plastic Ducks: AP Victory T182/1220 AD. (AP religion was Buddhism)

Phoenix Rising: AP Victory T211/1505 AD. (AP religion was Hindu)

Misfit Gypsy Nuts: Cultural Victory T238/1640 AD.

Fifth Element: Cultural Victory T302/1864 AD.

Kakumeika: In Progress T151/820 AD. Aiming for AP victory I think, not really sure - need to read their thread more. Meeting the deadline might be a challenge.

One Short Straw: In Progress T176/1160 AD. Looks like a military strategy with AP fallback position.

Unusual Suspects: In Progress T225/1575 AD. I'm not sure what's going on here. Doesn't look pleasant anyway.

Maple Sporks: In Progress T253/1715 AD. Very challenging position to win from.

XTeam: Retired T221/1555 AD. Went for military, but things turned bad.

PD and PR are currently 1st and 2nd position. Congratulations you two!

A number of teams are still in progress and less than our date: Kakumeika, One Short Straw and Unusual Suspects. US I don't think will be able to pull out a win within the next 14 turns. The teams we need to keep an eye on are Kaku and OSS.

I wonder if they will finish in time? We might come out with a Bronze Medal here!

Edit: I had a look at US' thread some more. I think I might have ruled them out prematurely, as kcd_swede's post suggests at absolute best (for them) they could beat us by 1 turn, but more likely trail by 9 turns or more.
One thing to watch for: Hatty has the Statue of Zeus in Thebes. War weariness will build up quickly.... so this is blitz warfare! The AP vote cycle is in 4t and 14t and 24t. I think the primary objective is to infect MM/HC in some way, and get the victory vote. Probably 24t is the earliest possible. The 14t vote could be used to get a dogpile on Hatty or to end the war, depending on what is best. The 4t vote isn't going to be of much use.
