NAVAL TECHNOLOGY RACE IN THE PACIFIC. Cuzco, New Inca Empire. Cuzco province hosts one of the most impressive dockyards on Earth. One would have to travel to Eora to find a comparative dockyard. Not only are these dockyards advance, but they represent the advancing technological savvy of the Australasian and New Inca empires. [New Inca Empire and Australasian Empire both advanced to Navy II! See the bottom of the second post in this thread for more information.]
THREE DEAD, SIXTEEN INJURED FOLLOWING ANGLO-INDIAN CONFRONTATION IN ACEH. Aceh, Kingdom of Mysore. A trading vessel from Eora, paid the Aceh trading post a call. The captain of this ship, a young man and the son of a prominent British family in Australia, got into a heated argument with an Indian trader that resulted in a small riots. Three were killed in the incident, including the captain. There are now calls in both Mysore and Eora to escalate the conflict and avenge this insult, but there are some who believe that the incident shouldn’t lead to more bloodshed. [Diplomatic Incident in Mysore and Australasia!]
“CAN THE SUN NEVER SET?” Eora, Australasian Empire. An editorial was published in one of Eora’s leading publications by an Australasian admiral. In it, he theorizes that by rebuilding the long lost British naval tradition, Australasian, the “one true successor” to the British Empire, may be able to recover the lost dominions and return to the British Isles. Some critics have blasted the editorial, calling it a broadslide by imperialist revisionists who could put the country on the warpath with the Zulu Empire and Kingdom of Mysore. [New Issue: A New Empire. +2 Naval Points].
MERCHANTS AND MISSIONARIES. Aceh, Kingdom of Mysore. It seems today that every Mysore trade ship sailing forth from Aceh province to Malaya, the Maldives, Bencoolen, or Riau includes a small missionary delegation seeking to convert the petty warlords and republics of those provinces to the Anglican faith. While the elites in Bombay and Mysore provinces hold a more modern, cosmopolitan, and skeptical view of the Anglican Church of Bombay, the missionaries have found a fiercely receptive crowd in Aceh and beyond. [New Issue! Aceh’s Missionaries]
THE BALANCE OF POWER IN INDIA: Mysore, Kingdom of Mysore. White elites in India have found themselves steadily losing power to Indian elites in Mysore. The Voting Rights Act of 1962 has allowed a small, but growing, contingent of British reactionaries to rally around 19th century Social Darwinists critiques of Indian society and race. These elites look toward the great Australasian Empire as an example of the power Mysore could achieve should it roll back the clock. [New Issue! White Revisionism]
THE BALANCE OF POWER IN TRANSJORDANIA. Palestine, Kingdom of Transjordania. Transjordania sits at a growing crossroads of trade and power in the Eastern Mediterranean. To their east are the strong and fierce New Russians in Tehran. To the west is Great Bulgaria and Italy, equally powerful European states. To the south is Transjordania most powerful neighbor: the Federal Confederation of the Somali People, or MFDS for short. A growing number of people in the kingdom are worried about the situation territories considered essential by the people are under threat. Anatolia is a battleground between Bulgarian traders, Russo-Armenians, and Karaman Turks who wish to join Transjordania. Mosul and Baghdad remain ungoverned between Russia and Transjordania, and both provinces are a dagger pointed at the heart of the other empire.[New Issue! Balance of Power in Transjordania.]
DEFEAT THE WARLORDS ; DESTROY THE WARLORDS: Peking, Empire of China. A Conservative MP delivered an impassioned speech to parliament as he recited a litany of atrocities committed by warlords still in control over vast swathes of China. His speech has angered the Chinese public, and they demand the government take action soon. [New Issue: Hupei and Shensi Warlords]
NEWS FROM THE AMERICAS
TEXAN RIVALRY. Texas. Mexican and Louisianan settlers are flooding Texas. Mexican and Louisiana politicians are both calling for a Reconquista of Texas and the American Southwest. The claims in Mexico are based on the Mexican Empire’s old empire in the American Southwest, while the claims of the latter are based on old American ideas of Manifest Destiny. [Diplomatic Incident: Texas]
ROMAN CATHOLICISM IN THE NEW INCA EMPIRE. Cuzco, New Inca Empire. The Fall led to the dissolving of ties between the Roman Catholic Church, which fled to Ireland for a time, and the Incan Catholics. Inca rulers used this opportunity to declare their own Andean Pope. With the restoration of communication between the New Inca Empire and the Papacy in the United Dioceses of Italy, some adherents of the Andean Catholic Church are opening questioning whether there is still a basis for schism. [New Issue! Roman-Andean Schism]
CHILE AND THE INCANS. Cuzco, New Inca Empire. Chileans (those living in Chile province) and the peoples of the Incan core territories have more in visible common in recent years. Chile is within the Cuzco economic sphere of influence, and most of her trade flows north through Cuzco into the Pacific and north into Central America than south around the Cape. Through trade comes culture and religion, as Chileans have embraced Andean Catholicism reverently. For those reasons, many persons in the New Inca Empire consider Chile a core province. [Gain a core on Chile.]
YUCATAN CORED. Yucatan, Empire of Mexico. Yucatan is now one of the growing number of provinces that the people of Mexico will die to defend. [Sonora cored].
FARMER UNREST IN BRASIL. Rio de Janeiro, Second Empire of Brasil. In recent years, the Brasilian economy has seen a shift thanks to the growing trade with countries such as Mexico and Amaros. While Mexican and Amaran goods are appearing on the shelves in Brasilian department stores, some Brasilian farmers are finding the competition overwhelming. Brasilian farmers, currently championed by the Popular Labour Party, are requesting that the government look into the plight of farmers. [New Issue! Farmer Unrest]
THE SPANISH LEGACY. Cuba, Levantine Republic. Centuries ago, the Spanish Empire ruled much of the Americas. Her colonies in the Americas brought her great wealth, prestige, and power. However, financial mismanagement and catastrophic defeats at the hands of an European conqueror ended the dissolution of the great colonial empire into a dozen independent states.
Cuba, which has been part of the Levantine Republic for over a century now, has become a political hotspot for a growing movement calling for the restoration of imperial borders. By adding states and territories to the Levantine Republic, they argue, the republic will be able to safeguard the rights and liberties of her current citizens and liberate those living in oppressive, backward regimes. For now, this movement is small and their leading concerns are with Hispaniola and Puerto Rico in the Caribbean. [New Issue! Levantine Expansionism].
MANIFEST DESTINY. Louisiana, State of Louisiana. A nationalist fervor is sweeping Louisiana. Young men are flocking to join the army after rumors of a “glorious march westward” began to spread. Louisiana, the only successor state to the former United States, can embrace this legacy to further geopolitical goals. [New Issue: Manifest Destiny.]
NEWS FROM AFRICA
MAPUTO. Transvaal, Zulu Empire. The Zulu Army has one simple goal at the moment: keep Madagascar out. It is no secret that Madagascar sees Maputo and Mozambique as core territories. To Zulu officers, Madagascar is only tolerable while it remains on the island and off the mainland. [New Issue: Worried Officers]
SPLENDID ISOLATION. Calabar, Amaros Republic. The Amaros Republic unique in that it sits on major trade routes, but isn’t wedged between several equally strong powers. The people of the republic appreciated the wealth such a position brings, as well as the peace. [New Issue: Splendid Isolation]
KIMBERLEY CORED! Kimberley, Zulu Empire. Kimberley has joined the growing number of provinces the Zulus consider worth dying for. [Kimberley cored.]
NEW EXODUS. Madagascar, Kingdom of Madagascar. Europeans and Protestants in Madagascar are a highly marginalized people in Madagascar society. Despite European trade families operating trading vessels between Madagascar and Mysore and beyond to Australasia, they have failed to gain what they feel to be a “rightful” position on the island. Right now, there is a trickle of immigration to Mysore and Australia. [New Issue: White Exodus to Mysore and Australia]
THE CLASS SOCIETY: Mogadishu, MFDS. Somali society is considered to be divided into several classes, ranging from the aristocratic Boqornimada to the warrior Askari. One class, the laboring Beertiisa, consists of farmers, fishermen, factory workers, janitors, and every person in society not considered part of the religious, middle, upper, or soldier classes. Within this large group of people are smaller groups of people, such as factory workers, who find themselves falling under the sway of a Somali expat living in Bombay. This expat, a hardline communist, has his writings brought into the country on trade ships. His followers read his writings to those who can’t read, and make copies for those who can.
In this way, socialism is making a comeback in the world in one of the new world’s most prosperous societies. [New Issue: Socialism]
NEWS FROM EUROPE
NEO-OTTOMANISM. Bulgaria, Great Bulgaria. In the trading cities of the empire are intellectuals who “miss” the days of the Ottoman Empire. The Ottomans, they argue, were sophisticated and wise whereas the modern republic is too backwards. The common man of the empire hasn’t bought into these arguments yet, but who knows which way the pendulum will swing tomorrow? [New Issue: Neo-Ottomanism]
ASSIMILATION IN ITALY. Sicily, United Dioceses of Italy. Italy is home to a small, but notable, Muslim minority. It is difficult to live in such a Catholic country and not find oneself questioning your religious views if you are a Muslim. Muslims still make the annual pilgrimage to Mecca and Medina, now under the control of the Kingdom of Transjordania. For some Italian Muslims, there’s no reason to return to Italy. This dual pressures is leading to a gradual decline in Italy’s Muslim population. [New Issue: Muslim Assimilation]
“TO BE TOLD WE ARE RUSSIAN.” Georgia, Russian Imperial Republic. The Russian Empire, ethnically, is not Russia. Ethnically, it is a hodgepodge of so many different groups. One of these groups, the Georgians, are torn between their loyalties to the Tsar and the gnawing feeling that maybe they could do better on their own. While there is no militancy to these thoughts now, who knows what could happen in the future? [New Issue: Georgian Coconsciousness, Georgian core on Georgia.]
GM NOTES
Rules have been added for Borrowing. The section on IP has been expanded to mention that military units in combat may drain on the national IP pool to repair themselves.
Issues will be dropped. They’re very unwieldy and rely on far too much fiat for my comfort. However, consider the issues listed as still being on the minds of your citizens even after I transfer to a stability point system.
The maps have some arrows. One trade route was posted on the wrong layer, and there are weirdly colored arrows scattered randomly on the non-trade map. I really have no idea what causes those arrows because they're not consistent.
