SheepNES: Modern Battlefields: MAIN THREAD

Lurkers Comment: Sheep, maybe instead of applications you should have the players run for president of the USA? That would make it interesting and the game more realistic. I noticed that the player Warmen signed the Kyoto Protocol with little or no uproar from conservatives in the USA. The problem is people will make their own vision for the US when in fact it changes everytime someone new comes into office. Of course they may be complicated but since the USA is loses players so often it may be easier for a player to jump in for a short time until the next election choosing to run again or not.

Just an idea

I suggested an idea like that (not in this thread) a few months ago. Cycling players around.

I think it sounds like a good idea.

I am also considering actually fast forwarding this nes 50 - 100 years, as lets face it that might actually show us with a little more of an interesting time to nes in. Comments?

short answer: WTH?

Long Answer (itemized as usual):
1- I was having a very interesting time, and this turn I was going to start slowly stirring things up in a possibly suicidal vortex of chaos...ok that was a bit too dramatic.
2- I totally agree with Jalapeno dude. If people wanted shoot'em up style NES, the forum is full of those. If they want space NESes they are there too. But this is the only NES that has the level of detail and realism (although my army is way underpowered compared to reality :)) that satisfies people's "how would I fare if I were to become president of a country now" line of thought.
3- Keeping in mind I probably still count as a quasi-newbie...If we were to move along, I'm guessing PCs will soon start fighting. One update takes you a week even when you are not busy IRL (Don't get me wrong, I think you are doing an excellent job. Just stating the fact that this NES has a huge workload for the moderator). If you want to accelerate time, I suggest reducing your workload by the following:
a) Don't update NPCs until needed. So have their stats as of, say, 2010. Then if something happens to Kazakhstan in 2015, or it becomes a PC, update it then for the past 5 years (which would just be banking the income every year for most of your NPCs anyway)
b) I really like your active NPC style, but if it is a choice between active NPCs and faster updates, I would choose the latter. You can always do the magnificent updates the turns that you are not busy IRL. But then I'm guessing the update is the main part of a moderator's fun, so I shut up.
c) Require people to attach their self-updated stats to their orders, except newly starting projects (they don't know the cost and time), and their military if they are at war (they don't know the casualties). Then you can copy-paste these, make the necessary changes on the two exceptions, and if you want check them later through the turn while the PCs are doing diplomacy and prepare the next orders. Sure, it'll still take time but I'm guessing significantly shorter. (For this the order format would have 3 separate sections: semi-updated stats, orders that were included in the stats, orders with unknown results. Hmm, I might use this strategy if I ever mod.

However, you may scratch #3 and keep things nice and slow, as I also agree with Jackwww. I am quite busy nowadays, so I didn't really mind the month-long turn.

I would like to see it fast forward...so long as the UK takes half of the world:)

Alright well I am getting a lot of feedback on my fast forward idea, I may still do it, but I dont think 50-100 years as many people have already said will be feasible... perhaps 10 at the most... I simply do not know.

It will continue, just not yet... Just waiting for work to die down a little.

Fair point Blade Roden

Fast-forward...?
Hmmm...?

kiwi, it means jumping the time forwards, usually with a Boring Time update to fill us in on changes. It'll take the NES into a new time frame, with minimal player involvement, and usually results in a very different balance of power.

Wow, really, I had no Idea.

Come on, gimme a break.

I was more questioning the idea behind it rather that the idea!!
Anyway...

Don't get yourself fired, okay?

I can't, I own the damn company still... haha. Just too many contracts being done at the moment all together they are worth something like 5 million. Not too shabby. Of course I keep all this money in an off shore bank account and thus I escape those annoying people at Forbes... I kinda like my privacy.

They do in Australia... Apparently by the time I am 30 I would probably be on that list but I dont really want to be... perhaps I should retire before too long. haha.

Of course I keep all this money in an off shore bank account

sheep bank accounts is the wrong way to invest. Do what I do and invest in honey. Yup honey and I am not talking about prostitutes the actual honey from bees. Now honey is the only food that doesn't expire and its good on toast. Plus if bee's would suddenly die off you would be rich. You could even take on Bill Gates with your honey empire. Now thats great investing :king:

Be careful about that in the US though, cause right now almost all of the bees in USA have disappeared. Literally no one knows where they went and it could very well destroy several crops this year due to lack of pollenation.
