I am also considering actually fast forwarding this nes 50 - 100 years, as lets face it that might actually show us with a little more of an interesting time to nes in. Comments?
short answer: WTH?
Long Answer (itemized as usual):
1- I was having a very interesting time, and this turn I was going to start slowly stirring things up in a possibly suicidal vortex of chaos...ok that was a bit too dramatic.
2- I totally agree with Jalapeno dude. If people wanted shoot'em up style NES, the forum is full of those. If they want space NESes they are there too. But this is the only NES that has the level of detail and realism
(although my army is way underpowered compared to reality
) that satisfies people's "how would I fare if I were to become president of a country now" line of thought.
3- Keeping in mind I probably still count as a quasi-newbie...If we were to move along, I'm guessing PCs will soon start fighting. One update takes you a week even when you are not busy IRL (Don't get me wrong, I think you are doing an excellent job. Just stating the fact that this NES has a huge workload for the moderator). If you want to accelerate time, I suggest reducing your workload by the following:
a) Don't update NPCs until needed. So have their stats as of, say, 2010. Then if something happens to Kazakhstan in 2015, or it becomes a PC, update it then for the past 5 years (which would just be banking the income every year for most of your NPCs anyway)
b) I really like your active NPC style, but if it is a choice between active NPCs and faster updates, I would choose the latter. You can always do the magnificent updates the turns that you are not busy IRL. But then I'm guessing the update is the main part of a moderator's fun, so I shut up.
c) Require people to attach their self-updated stats to their orders, except newly starting projects (they don't know the cost and time), and their military if they are at war (they don't know the casualties). Then you can copy-paste these, make the necessary changes on the two exceptions, and if you want check them later through the turn while the PCs are doing diplomacy and prepare the next orders. Sure, it'll still take time but I'm guessing significantly shorter. (For this the order format would have 3 separate sections: semi-updated stats, orders that were included in the stats, orders with unknown results. Hmm, I might use this strategy if I ever mod.
However, you may scratch #3 and keep things nice and slow, as I also agree with Jackwww. I am quite busy nowadays, so I didn't really mind the month-long turn.
