I'm even getting around the idea of regulated weapons (pistols, revolvers) as something acceptable for someone to have in its home (for sport shooting). But automatic weapons, or any of the prohibited weapons in Canada (Machine Gun, Automatic Rifles, Bazooka you name it), shouldn't be in the hands of regualr people. There's just no justification for it. No matter the restrictions.
I'm not sure where and how the shooter got his hands on his weapons. Not sure of the exact nature of his arsenal either. In no way do I blame our neighbors for the shooting. The nutcase in question is the guilty one. But the love, love for weapons that he had is a lot more common and encouraged down south. I don't understand that love at all. Why in the world would anyone in their right mind want to own an automatic rifle?

I was watching tv all afternoon yesterday, following it live in the local media. Students told the media that they saw and heard automatic weapons. I took they word for it. I'm not sure what he had. I said it too.MobBoss said:First of all, I cant find in any story thus far where the weapon is identified as being an automatic weapon as opposed to a semi-automatic weapon. So, why do you assume that it is a fully automatic weapon?
Question for Igloo, so why second to me?MobBoss said:Second, I cant identify the weapon in the photo (assuming thats the one he used) but it definitely isnt some CAR-15 knockoff. It looks more like a G3 type of varient to me. Any ideas Igloo?

The point sysyphus made, and that I agreed with, is that the black market for weaponry in Canada is mainly consisted of illegal importation from the United Staes. Now don't get all angry over this Captain America. I also stated that I'm not blaming anyone but the shooter for the tragedy.

Bizarrely, this is actually a legal weapon in Canada, as long as you don't have a criminal record (which the shooter didn't).

So really its the same playing field if your not from a rich family. Or worse with reverse discrimination.
Its not a rifle. Its a carbine. Think of it as a long gun or short rife. And just so every one knows semi-automatic refers to any gun you dont have to cock and chamber between every round. A 6 shooter can be semi-automatic. A heavy armerment weapon? It uses pistol ammo. You realy don't know much about weapons. This is realy good for hunting and home deffence.Taliesin said:It's a semiautomatic rifle, suitable perhaps as a police force's heavy armament, but completely unnecessary for any private citizen to own.
