SimCity 5

I had a dream where they announced a new SimCity that actually worked.

Yup. I figured it was a dream pretty quickly.

Nobody is going to implement PBEM in modern games. Except maybe the rare indie dev.

There are a handful of turn-based strategy games that still use this mechanism (the AGEOD games I'm a fan of all do PBEM). It's a niche market, to be sure.

I really wanted this game, but they clearly did not deliver what they said they would.

I know that feeling. I've been checking in every so often and just shaking my head at the train wreck.

Now you all know how I felt when Spore game out!

SC5 appears to be far, far worse than Spore. At least Spore was useful as a creativity engine.

The game itself was decent, the DRM (which mostly didn't affect the game) sucked. In SimCity the game itself is massively broken and the DRM seriously affects game play.

I recently gave up on buggy SimCity and am playing Cities XL instead. I love the complexity within the game, and those who are fed up with the bugginess with SimCity should try that game instead.

Cities XL has potential, and there are lots of good mods for it. I just don't really have time to mess with it sadly. I've heard that it has a bad memory leak, which really gets obnoxious when you get a decent sized city.
Some of the city journals over at XL nation make the game look really fantastic.

Does it still have that memory leak?

I did beta testing for the first iteration of Cities XL, and that memory leak really killed it for me. Made it impossible to play for more than 30 minutes. It'd be a real shame if it was still in there.

I don't know if it is memory leaking, but the performance in my games is very bad once the cities grow.

Another thing I find *highly* annoying is that I frequently ran into a deadend were I had no demand for ANYTHING, regardless what I did... :/

Yes it does, they will probably never fix it.
