SimCity 5

I think the solution is very simple. Make it so that the game can run on its own, but updates with information whenever an internet connection is made.
Originally they said the game would only require you to connect online to get the latest updated info on the "world economy" (which they are going to balance themselves anyway and won't be a real market) so that solutino would work really well with it. Unfortunately, as I already posted, EA has made it clear they have tied the cloud "service" to a number of other parts of the game in order to pretend this is anything other than a DRM scheme.

It isn't a bad idea for a system, but it is definitely time to move on, we only have one police station here for a region of ~70,000 people and crime doesn't largely happen outside its "radius".

We have 6 fire departments though, so roads definitely impact them.

The new Simcity is not worthy of SC4's awesomeness.

I kind of went crazy planting nice big pine trees next to the freeways.

Which map is that? It's beautiful. That was one of my complaints about SC4, to few maps in the base game.

Instead of an area circle, I think it has to do with roads now.

I'm not sure though.

Yes, sims need to use roads to go to hospitals/schools/etc.

But at least you could make your own maps. There was actually a third-party tool that was really useful in making regional maps for those of us, like me, who were not as skilled at making maps connect to each other right.

I don't think the new SimCity will have that map-making feature, I've heard?

It's a map I downloaded a long time ago. I think it's supposed to be Boston. The nice thing about custom maps is you can make them all large tiles, so there is tons of space.

As for civic building coverage, the round radius does get annoying, so that is one thing the new Simcity gets right.

It has to do with roads, from the two gameplay videos the devs have posted. Said videos make me want to get the game even less.

Also, since this seems like a good place to ask:
I got SimCity 4 (deluxe) the other day, and are there any good mods out there that I should get? (I already installed NAM)

Look here, scroll down a few posts for the bug fixing mods.

I propose making this thread like the entirety of the Spore subforum.

A pit of rage and anger at EA.

I'm as tired of bashing EA as everyone else, but God damn they really suck at at a lot of stuff.

... any publicity is good publicity

EA responds to "Worst Company in America" Award said:
We’re sure that British Petroleum, AIG, Philip Morris, and Halliburton are all relieved they weren’t nominated this year. We’re going to continue making award-winning games and services played by more than 300 million people worldwide.

They appeal to the lowest common denominators, not necessarily gamers. All the "stupid" moves they make? They might upset us, but the general public doesn't really understand the implications.

Their decisions are driven by the need of their shareholders over the needs of the users (us).

Either way, if people continue to buy their products, they will continue to make them, including with all the stupid BS they've been adding. The only way to stop them is to stop giving them money.

I really hope another company steps up and gives us the city building game we want.

CitiesXL was a step in the right direction, but the interface is a bit clunky.

Heard CitiesXL was also pretty buggy, particularly the fact that the game broke once you got a certain amount of high population.

Thankfully, there's still SimCity4 to be played if all goes not well. I feel that despite being literally a decade old, SimCity4 has aged ridiculously well and still looks phenomenal today - and I mean really phenomenal, enough that if they made SimCity 4 today I wouldn't have thought of the graphics as outdated in anyway whatsoever. To be honest I think SimCity 4 looks better than the new one, which looks a tad cartoony.

Yeah CitiesXL, one of them anyway, had a problem with road expansions too. You can upgrade/expand the roads, but even the first expansion that makes it few pixels wider destroys EVERYTHING ALONG THE ROAD which is ridiculous.

And a pity, they are the only competition to Sim City :/

When I tried to play Sim City 4 again recently, I was really surprised about this as well. Its a really, really, good looking game. I mean wow.
