Skyrim - The Elder Scrolls V

That's my problem as well, though it could be related to me being a battlemage with light armor who's never been to Winterhold for destruction training. Why does it level up so slowly, and why can other mages literally spam Ice Storm? I may not have a lot of health, but it shouldn't be 1-hit killing me when I'm a werewolf or don't have 80% magicka/frost resist (stacked). I know I have a mod that augments destruction but I can't one-hit kill a single damn humanoid, and my destruction's at 55 and the mage that kept killing me had 70. I'm a freakin Breton! This should not be happening.

Do the Wolf Queen quest, disenchant the shield, when you get 100 enchanting you can put the frost on that and normal frost for 20%+25%+25 for Breton giving you 70% frost resist.

Well, Ice Spike uses 48 MP, but toss on high destruction and some solid robes and it's pretty cheap.

You brought back memories that I thought would never have to be thought of again. God DAMN that boss to all Hell!

On the plus side I learned how awesome shock magic is. :)

Yeah I was level 38.

Someone should figure out how to implement good level scaling.
I'm now playing on Master difficulty with my lv 40 Breton warmage, and there seem to be only two different categories of enemies left.
Frustrating: Chaurus reapers and some Falmers.
Laughably easy: everything else, including Deathlords and Dragons.
There's almost no middle ground here.

Really? I've never been killed by a reaper. The Falmer archers and mages, but never the reapers.

24. Wow.

Once I realized I didn't have my ring of 18% magic resist equipped I think I could take 2-3 hits, but still, it took a real long time. I should probably mention I have Warzones and this was a battle between Conjurers and Mages, both of which were hostile to me. It's also on Master.

I think I'm going to go put more perks in destruction and use ice storm and chain lightning some more, because I've mostly been using Firebolt, which supposedly does 40-50 damage. Fireball does 75 but it's less efficient and always hits my allies.

I was level five at Krosis I believe. An utter nightmare.

How did you survive? :twitch: I was like 8-9 and it was incredibly painful.

Yeah I was level 38.

Master doubles damage taken...

Master doubles damage taken...

It took many, many restarts. It was fortunate that I was a mage and I was able to cheese the fight slightly by hiding behind stuff and tossing fireballs. Every time I drained my magicka bar his health dropped by about 1/20. It took a long, long time. Factor in the fact I had to wait for times to attack and heal myself too.

Master doubles damage taken...

Oh, I thought it improved AI.

I am disappoint, Bethesda. Incredibly disappoint.

What happened to us? There was a time when it was obvious that you weren't supposed to beat the toughest monsters in the game before later in the game. Now we just expect to go everywhere and beat everything at any time.

Increased stubbornness, pride in (allegedly) developed skills, and fear that whatever keeps killing you may not be there in the future or all its mooks will respawn.

Actually just Oblivion level scaling.

The thing is though we often don't know the beast we're coming up against is going to be harder than Russian concrete; when we realise it is often too late, especially if we haven't saved.

It's the poison damage. It sometimes drains my HP faster than I can heal with Fast Healing and the things hit pretty hard.
I have to admit that this is atually my character's Achilles heel. I'm a Breton and have at least 40% resistance against everything except poison.

Yes. Scaling happened.
There's also suble feeling of entitlement in open world games. YOu can go anywhere, so you want to be able to go anywhere without getting murdered.
I actually have no problems with hard bosses or bonus enemies and I can accept that some dungeons or zones are no-go areas for lower level characters It adds a sense of accomplishment if you enter a Falmer cave and realize that you have a fighting chance.

I think I've been hit by their poison spit once. I think I've only been in about 7 Falmer areas, though one of them was the city under Markarth. I miss Dwarven ruins being full of Dwarven enemies and not just Dwarven clutter...

Still, never died against a Reaper. Maybe my playstyle is different, though I frequently change it.

Me too. Difficulty has always been something that Bethesda has struggled with, finding that right combination of tough and easy. I actually have more of a problem with leveled loot than leveled enemies. I really disliked when bandits suddenly all wore glass armor for some reason.

I think I would prefer horizontal character growth rather than vertical, maybe less linear as well (Skyrim did a good job with this). The ever increasing HP and/or stats aren't really appealing to me. I think end-game characters need to be as afraid of death as lower leveled characters. It needs to be grittier, IMO.

I spent way too much time playing Oblivion, I called Bethesda TWICE because my game started glitching from too much time played and they were different profiles...

The half hour into the fight wondering why the enemy wont die.

Well I got too used to Oblivion and level scaling.

I'm like that, though it's probably due to mods and Master difficulty. When I duel wield maces I'm a glass cannon.

Though when I actually use my freakin' destruction magic, if I kill anyone who isn't underleveled, it's either a death of a thousand cuts or because Lydia and my Dremora Lord (lucky drop) took off half their health first. I guess I could use Paralyze on people more (another lucky drop), but that takes 19/20 of my freakin magicka.
