Skyrim - The Elder Scrolls V

I never had a problem with it because I installed the Deadly Combat mod before I hit level 10 and while it doesn't fix the simplistic combat it greatly increased damage and combat difficulty in general to a much more realistic level (plus Deadly Dragons and Deadly Dance or so something like that, its a kill animation mod that adds a tonne of variety). More elite enemies do take more damage to kill than lower ones like the normal system, but it still drastically reduces frantic slashing at something for a minute before it finally dies.

That deadly combat mod sounds great. Not that it would be of much use to me, with Illusion and Sneak at 100, I can one shot kill mostly everyone with a dagger hit (*30 damage sneak att crit) and with no problems casting Invisibility and with the chance of Pacifying everyone, it's almost a cake walk even on Master.

About the deadly dance mod, is it like this?

That's my problem as well, though it could be related to me being a battlemage with light armor who's never been to Winterhold for destruction training. Why does it level up so slowly, and why can other mages literally spam Ice Storm? I may not have a lot of health, but it shouldn't be 1-hit killing me when I'm a werewolf or don't have 80% magicka/frost resist (stacked). I know I have a mod that augments destruction but I can't one-hit kill a single damn humanoid, and my destruction's at 55 and the mage that kept killing me had 70. I'm a freakin Breton! This should not be happening.

Destruction magic for the player is extremely underpowered. While some mages will have no problem killing you in two hits (like that guy with all the skeevers in the meadery outside Whiterun), you can max out Destruction and get all perks for it and won't be able to kill a town guard without casting a couple of spells and draining at least half your magicka.

Destruction magic looks like a cool build but unfortunately it's very weak, playing at Master is just asking for pain.

There is no dancing in that mod no  Its name is The Dance of Death, sadly the newest version requires Dawnguard but it only has a couple of real additions over the non-Dawnguard version.

The real problem with destruction magic at high levels is that the damage never goes up again once you get the highest level spells, but enemies keep getting more and more HP as you level up. So a spell that once took off, let's say, 20% of an average enemies health, you level up a few times, now it takes of 10% of that same enemies health. Level up a few more times, now it takes of 5%. Thus Destruction has a strange arc where while you're leveling it up, it gets stronger, but once you max it out it starts getting WEAKER relative to your enemies unless you stop leveling altogether at that point.

I think it's obvious that steroids in Skyrim do not increase physical prowess, but magical. Furthermore, as the Dovahkiin is only newly arrived in the land, he has not yet built up the network of contacts required to obtain magic steroids. Skooma is only a charade, one designed to keep the immigrants occupied, while the true and native wizards enhance themselves with the most illegal of all contraband in the history of Mundus.

Yeah, I have a mod that scales destruction damage and another that scales down the cost of the first three spell tiers. Still kind of useless but I'm incredibly stubborn.

Screw useless.
I've started an Altmer maga and I'm planning a pure mage playthrough. Damage is only to be inflicted by followers or through magic and staffs. I refuse to wear armor and have a dagger for emrgencies, and I only invest perks in the magic trees
At the start of the game he's pretty strong, then he got weaker and I switched to apprentice and later to adept destruction spells and now he's a murder machine again. I'm curious about how long it lasts.

To be fair, using my two maces is just as crazy because I can take about three hits from a boss in a melee. If I wasn't so lazy I'd have 100% magicka absorption and destruction spells costing nothing, but I was only patient enough to max out smithing.

Yeah, about Smithing, now that they nerfed the dagger spam, what's the best way to improve the skill?

Before it was a chore because of how long it took, but now, it's almost pointless, the skill raises so slowly, even when I'm making more expensive objects like Leather Armour or Steel Armour.

What are the best items to forge now in order to increase the skill?

Same here. I also spammed gold rings once I got Transmute.

What exactly did they change?

If somebody would like to be my best friend forever, could you PM when there's a sweet (Steam) deal on Skyrim + the DLC that's less than $40? Dunno when that'll be but I'm rarely online anymore.

Just get on during the Halloween or winter sale.

Impulse, I think, had Skyrim at $30 recently, a few weeks ago, so I think seeing Skyrim at $30 or even under is certainly a reasonable possibility now (it might not have been Impulse, could have been gamefly, not sure - but it was during one of their big sales).

If not, you can always wait until the winter sales.

Get the transmute spell, Halted Stream is probably the easiest location. It turns iron into silver and silver into gold, do that and add some gems to the Jewelry and it is some really fast leveling (apparently you level decently when making rings at 160-180 apiece).

How many skills do people aim to 'major' in for a playthrough? Currently I'm playing as a mage character with one-handed weapons; I want the damage done to be with one handed weapons since destruction is quite weak, so my other skills could be illusion, alteration and restoration. Armour isn't too important since I'm wearing robes.

Depends. Are you roleplaying your character or are you powergaming?

I'd probably go with Restoration and/or Alchemy.

I tend to roleplay my characters, so this question doesn't even need to be asked in my case.

What do you mean major ?
Some skill trees call for maxing and some only have a couple of early useful perks.
My mage only has perks in the mage skills minus Illusion, and he's still doing OK (lvl 22 atm). I can't imagine how a robe weaing melee mage would be feasible given how easily they die.
You should invest at least in Conjuration and get Elemental Potency for better Atronach tanks.

Alchemy??

Salty_mud, a mage with robes? I'd say go for Illusion, you'll need Invisibility for the Sneak Critical Hits otherwise some boss fights will be extremely difficult. A dagger with the Assassin's Blade perk can do wonders.
