So How Are You Liking Trevor Noah?

My heart was broken when we lost Steven Colbert and Jon Stewart this year. I was stunned when I first learned Trevor Noah was replacing Jon, I had seen him just a few times on the show as a "correspondent" but never figured him to be in the running given the multitude of veteran comedians the show has produced.

While I enjoy Larry Wilmore's opening monologues I'm not a big fan of his round table format with various comedians and celebs, so I kinda lose interest after the first commercial break and switch over to Colbert for his opening. But I gotta give a :goodjob: to Trevor Noah, the guy is good. He reminds me a little of an early Dennis Miller with his smooth, eloquent delivery. Here's hoping for a lengthy run as The Daily Show's new roast master.

What do you think about Noah and Wilmore?

They are alright, but not quite up to par with their predecessors.

Jon Oliver is better than any of them.

p.s. Noah's fake American accents are typically so bad that they distract from more than aid the comedy.

yea he's actually really bad at accents. And definitely not in a humorous way, just in the "oh he can't do that accent" way

the daily show has had the same format for many years now so the change in hosts isn't really that big of a deal. Trevor I don't think has had a real long "extended" interview yet and that was something Jon Stewart could do well. Have serious guests on but still crack some jokes and drop good solid interviews (also just mostly winging it)

Yeah Last Week Tonight is the Daily Show for me now basically. It certainly helps that LWT actually puts their segments up on youtube. Which means I actually watch them. I'm not going to separate website (with a TERRIBLE video player) just to watch one show. I've watched WAY more of Colbert now that he's moved to the Tonight Show (and puts most of the good parts of his show on youtube for me to watch) than I ever did on the Colbert Report which was never more than a very sporadic affair for me.

I like him a lot. I like how he looks, I like his accent. I like the idea that he is an outsider who can pretend to be puzzled by the American news. He is supported by a very strong writing team, give him a chance he will grow on you.

==eta==
Oddly, I am not completely happy with the New Colbert. He is too much like the Old Colbert. I was hoping for a bigger break.

I don't know what any of this is about (I've heard of Trevor Noah, but that's about it), but just want to point out that there's probably not a whole lot of "pretending" required...

I gave him a shot and I didn't really like his approach. Obviously he's not as good as Colbert, but I didn't even see hints of what I liked about the last host in the new one, so for now I'm putting myself down as "disappointed".

I am also not sure about Colbert's new job. I watched it a couple times and it has always seemed a bit.. off. Like it doesn't fully suit him or something. Not bad, but it seems to be lacking something.

I like him, but I like Wilmore more (well before he gets to the roundtable part of the show, which is where I tune out). I think Wilmore would have made a better dailyshow host than Noah, but Noah is still funny.

Colbert's show > Wilmore's first half of the show > Trevor Noah - they are all still pretty funny though

I think he's doing alright considering the task before him. Stewart is NOT easy to replace.

I prefer Larry Wilmore's show these days.

I think Late Show w/Colbert is quite good, but the lack of chemistry between him and his band leader is cringe-worthy at times.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who sees it. They look downright uncomfortable.

Wilmore's panel discussion reminds me a bit of Colin Quinn's old Comedy Central show, Tough Crowd, so I appreciate the callback. I definitely do not watch the new bunch of comedy central hosts as religiously as I watched Stewart and Colbert, though--I had a lot going on in my life earlier this year, and I had to cut out a lot of TV. So when their shows ended, I just took the time and haven't really given it back.

Colbert's new show is okay, I guess. I miss the magic of the old one, it seems like he's a bit too tame now. We'll see if he loosens up a bit more and builds it over time.

I have only watched listened to LWT on youtube, and that's usually during post-run showers or breakfast.
