Ok I'm making a new mod/scenario and I need help to find some UU's for the following civs. The time period is ca. 800-1800.

Pagan - Kywan Worker
Pegu - Elite Musketman (need to find a better name)
Khmer - Pha'ak Man
Siam - Ayutthaya Soldier (could use a better name too)
Chiang Mai(Lanna)
Laos
Vietnam - Au-Lac Crossbowman
Champa - Elephant Warrior

I have all the city lists, leaders etc. worked out, but I can't really find any good UU's, except maybe the Pha'ak man for the Khmer and some sort of Pikeman/Spearman for Siam.

I also posted a thread in the history forum: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?p=4060637#post4060637. I'm not sure which is the most appropriate.

Pagan/Bagan and Pegu/Bago are both Burma. Bagan refers to the old capital and the classical period, which ended with the Mongol invasion. The Burmese regained independence and then established Bago.

Laos's old name was "Lan Chang."

Before Siam came to be, it was known as Ayutthaya (not sure this is the correct spelling; there are three ways to spell it...). Before that, "Siam" consisted of several competing kingdoms - Ayutthaya, Sukhotai, and Lan Na (Chiang Mai). Ayutthaya absorbed Sukhotai and fought against Chiang Mai.

Vietnam's other name is "Dai Viet," the name the Viets gave their kingdom after seceding from the yoke of the Chinese Empire.

Anyways, couple of UU suggestions for you:

Bagan/Pagan - Kywan (worker with increased work rate): Kywans were bound servants, but the way "slavery" was done in Pagan was that people would oftentimes voluntarily sell themselves as "kywan" to ensure some degree of security or could purchase themselves out of it. Kywans were essential not only for the clergy, but also the monarchy.

Dai Viet - Au-Lac Crossbowman: Crossbows were in use in Vietnam for a very long time, as shown on ancient Dong Son bronze drum pictures and the An Doung legend.
-OR-
Viet Guerilla: The Vietnamese were experts in guerilla warfare for thousands of years. That ought to be a no-brainer. ;)

Champa - War Elephant: Actually, both Dai Viet and Champa used War Elephants.

I actually knew about all the name stuff. I just wrote the names I was most sure people would understand;). Though I'm using Lan Xang instead of Lan Chang (it's just another way to spell the same word), Annam instead of Dai-Vet (though would Dai-Vet be better?). As far as my research goes Pagan and Pegu is not the same. Pagan were ruled by the Burmese and Pegu was ruled by the Mon people.

Thanks for the suggestions:goodjob:.
The Kywan worker sounds cool. I could give it a defence bonus too, to ensure they can get GA.
Au-Lac Crossbowman also sounds cool. I'm not going to use the Vietcong/Viet Guerilla, since the scenario stops in 1800.
I've made War Elephants generic, as my impression was that they were used by pretty much everyone?

Gah. I knew I made a mistake somewhere. Pegu fell to the Burmese later on. :crazyeye:

I think Dai Viet is a better term. "Annam" is a diminutive coined by the Chinese meaning "Pacified South." ;)

For Siam, finding a suitable UU is a bit tough. How about an Ayutthaya Soldier? The Ayutthaya period was one of expansion and various military expeditions, especially against Burma and Chiang Mai. Shiro made a Siamese soldier unit a while ago.

Ok I'll use Dai Vet then. What would be the noun and adjective of that?

Shiro made a Siamese soldier? There is another Siamese soldier available by someone I forgot the name suddenly.

I suppose he never finished it then. There was a preview of it in his unit work thread. The unit libraries aren't really updated that much either. There was a Siamese warrior unit with two swords somewhere around here too...

Noun and Adjective for Dai Viet should simply be "Viet." :)

Viet Nam was originally constituted of the kingdoms of Nam, in the north, sth chinese-influenced, and Champa, in the south, with Hindu influence.
In -208 the Chinese Chao T´o founded the kingdom of Nam-Viêt, incorporated in -111 to China. It became free again in 939, and its expansion formed the kingdom of Dai-co-Viêt, with many dinasties. The Trân dinasty repelled the Mongol invasions and Le-Thanh-Tônh conquered Champa.
The Europeans began meddling and making everyone fight each other in the XVI century. The portuguese supported the Nguyên (1545) who, based in Hue, conquerted Saigon in 1698. At this time Christianity was introduced into the area, which made France more interested in the place. In the XVIII there were peasant uprisings (1737-1750), which were dominated by Nguyên Ahn with French help. Nguyên Ahn conquered Saigon, Hue and Hanoi. He became emperor in 1802 as Gia-Long. Ming Mang established a protectorate upon Cambodia.
Just in case.

give me pictures and I'll make them

There was a preview of a Siamese/Ayutthaya soldier you posted up a while ago based on the ones from "The Legend of Suriyothai". Did you ever complete it?

For an early Viet crossbowman, this attire might work:
Ka-Tu-Dancers12.jpg

@Yoda: "Au-Lac" refers to a particular period and culture. ;) Call it "Au-Lac Crossbowman."

That's the best I can find. The dancers are wearing a very ancient garb that is reminiscent of the images of warriors on the Dong Son bronze drums. I think the attire should look a bit like the Pha'ak man but with darker colors.

How about giving the twin swordman to Lanna?

Shiro it would be really cool if you made that unit! Maybe if we can find a good unit for Laos you would be interested in making that one too? I really have no idea what to use for Laos.

I can give you some info on Laos in a couple of hours... just wait till I get back home!

Shwezigon Pagoda, Bagan :)

I used mostly basic shapes for this and since you can't see much at civ-level, there isn't a need for much detail. It should be complete by Saturday. :D
