SprylliNES V: The Peloponnesian War

I, Nicias, move that the Assembly should pass a motion putting Alcibiades, whose family has often had Spartan connections in the past, in charge of liasing with Sparta and raising a combined force to march to Thrace, where he will share in the command with Lamachus.

The Assembly approves Nicias's motion. The time is now past for further amendments to the motion.

Therefore:

Alcibiades is to liaise with the Spartans and march to Thrace;
Lamachus is to command the present forces in Thrace.

OOC:

The deadline is the end of today!

Get your orders in promptly please. If you do, I can assure you of an update this weekend, but if not, not. Sorry about not giving you a chance to reply, Thlayli, but you did table your proposal rather late, so that's what you have to do, and it would be unfair to revise the motion any further so close up against the deadline.

Sorry this is last minute, but I first wanted to see how the Athens-Sparta thing resolved itself.

By marching to assist our enemies and the betrayers of the Peloponnesian cause and the pan-Hellene peace, the Argives have violated the terms of our peace treaty with them before the treaty's effect could even run out.

Argos is now the greatest menace to the Peloponnesian League and all its loyal members. Sparta therefore requests that all the members of the Peloponnesian League, particularly Corinth and the Achaean League, as well as Acte, lend their forces to the war against Argos.

Most abhorrent among all creatures are the oathbreakers, whose wickedness is twofold, fearing neither the gods, before whom they swore and who hold justice in their hands, nor man, fearing not to be known far and wide by their evil deeds. Who then would defend the Argives from the Erinyes' wrath? Seeing then that your cause is just and favorable before the gods, we march beside you in war and in peace, until such time as the vengeance of the gods have been realized.

We do request (OOC: perhaps belatedly, ah well :p) that Athens provide our defenders in Heraclea Trachinia with support, or at least with supplies. This shall ease the way for us to assist Athens in retaking Amphipolis, whilst being well in the capacity of Athens as a thalassocracy.

It is the opinion of the Council that it would be well within the remit of Alcibiades's command to do that on the way to Amphipolis. We commend this idea to Alcibiades very highly, and advise that the Spartans should arrange this with Alcibiades as they deem appropriate.

I, Nicias, agree with the Council in their recommendation.

What is the point of having a deadline if you just ignore it? Is a week honestly not long enough for you to post your diplo, get your orders together, and send them in? I need your orders now, Thlayli, Strat, skeptikalz!, Mannerheim, MjM, Kraz, Espoir, Immac, or there will be no update this weekend.

Honestly, where on earth are your orders? If you're waiting for me to come on #nes or something, stop it, because I'm not going to. :p If not, get a god damn move on.

In the circumstances, I am setting a new deadline. All orders must be in by Thursday 4th November, with absolutely no exceptions.

I can do that

Well, what can I say? I had a dedicated player base which I had designed the NES to suit as well as I could, and carried out all my players' requests; I had promised and I delivered both quality and quantity in my updates; I have a record of not giving up on my NESes. Nevertheless, not one of the campaigns supposed to be happening this turn has orders for both sides. I won't say my players aren't committed, because I think they are as far as it's possible for those players to be; I will merely say that half of them are too lazy and the other half are too arrogant by far.

I'll know not to try to appeal to that player base in future NESes.

Continue this one! Update without them! Screw them over!

This is embarrassing, you guys. I'm the one who got pulled into this at the last possible moment. I shouldn't be one of the only people sending orders on time. :p

Sorry Spry. I know its not much consolation but, for what its worth, i apologize for flaking on you.

I'm still willing to accept orders if people send them. By "people" I particularly mean at least three of Thlayli, Kraz, MjM, Dachs, and Espoir.

I would like to get this going again. All new players are welcome and I would encourage anyone to join! :)

All spots except Sparta, Corinth, Taras, and Demosthenes are open.

The best open spots are:

Nicias (the most important politician in Athens; strongly in favour of peace and alliance with Sparta)
Alcibiades (Nicias's main rival)
Thebes (the main city of the Boeotian League)
Larissa (the main city of Thessaly),
Macedonia
Syracuse
The League of the Chalcidians in Thrace

Only nations listed here are playable. That link gives you a vague idea of what you might like to do in this NES.

Spry, would there be any small-ish entities that you could recommend? I'll admit that I don't have 100% enough time to devote at the moment (or for the next month), but I'd hate to see any of your NESes die. Quality players and mods are tough to come by!:)

My only preference would be to somewhere that looks to be "quiet" for the near future.

Matt: Syracuse and Thebes are quiet so long as nobody attacks them and you don't bite off more than you can chew. :p Things much smaller than that probably aren't really worth the bother of playing as at all. I just messaged Immac to see if he wants Thebes back, so if he does he has priority, but otherwise take your pick.

erez: PM me with any suggestions you like. :) No promises though!
