Well, I think I'd agree with Xen here. If you haven't seen it before, I wouldn't start now. Not only would you be hopelessly lost, but would be warped for all time.

DVDs for both series are out. If you can find a place to rent them, then go on and watch it, I guess. Then if you don't like it, you spent a smaller amount of money and aren't stuck with a small frisbee.

I lost count of the seasons of SG1. I lost track of where the heck the storylines went. I may buy the DVD's for the first 2 seasons of Drom, eventhough the everything after "Ouroborus" is a downward spiral. Tribune should never have fired that bigshot whose name I forgot.

Andromeda. I like that show but it's more then a little confusing. I don't watch Stargate.

SG1 is great,Andromeda on the other hand while I wouldnt go as far as saying it sucks,it is vastly inferior to SG1.
I watched both, both had there appeal, Andromeda got much better in the end, the beginning was horrible.
But what is really horrible is Stargate: Atlantis.
It was supposed to be better than Stargate SG1, but up to now, I have seen no particular fascinating or sympathic character, but lots of sub-par acting and even more pathetic storylines.

If one couldn't figure it out from my avatar change, I used to like Andromeda (well, the first few seasons, but the last couple have been bizarre, and the current one is just an acid trip writ large). I've simply stopped watching it, and am as hooked on Battlestar Galactica as I've ever been on any current series (I probably would have been the same way about Firefly). SG1 has been very good in the past but the current storylines are a little too bizarre for me, I haven't bothered watching Stargate Atlantis, and I'm hoping Enterprise will get another season since the last one has been quite good.

I like both and on the topic of great quotes Andromeda has some of the best like "Why do Plan B's always suck?" and "I'm gonna break free, crack your skull open and drink a beer over your fuzzy corpse! " and "They were playing Wagner, it's the most fun I've had in months". Also it's fun to watch the subtle references to Hercules like "he's built like a Greek God" and when he pulls the wig and sword from the hidden weapons locker in his quarters. It's also fun to watch Rommie kick butt.

Anyway, I own 7 seasons of Stargate on dvd. So yea, I love it. Andromeda has some pretty cool stuff in it, but it is not that great. As for Battlestar the very first one was cool, this remake, I just havent got into the groove yet. No, I am not old enough to have seen the first Battlestar when it came out, I am only 20.

Actually, Andromeda has gotten WORSE... much WORSE compared to what it was 3 years ago. If you can get access to the first two seasons... heck just the last 5 episodes of the second season and then watch the first episode of the 3rd season your mind will not be able to fathom what happens.
I sit here and think everyday how the heck they could have ruined Andromeda. It was literally, in my opinion, one of the best science-fiction shows I've ever seen with my viewing of the first and second season. Now in the 5th season, I just wish theyd burn the episodes and formally apologize.

Ethics, check out Battlestar Galactica (if you haven't already) - everyone I've met who liked the early Andromeda seasons much more than the later seasons have found BG to be well worth watching.

To be fair to Atlantis... it was good on the season finale. I just loved the way that Marine entered and called them out for the bunch of inept nerds that they are.
Really... after 7 seasons of Stargate SG-1 and their encounters... the first thing they do when they find out about Atlantis is send in the biggest bunch of weak willed nerds from across the globe. The acting is just horrible!
Thats the problem with Andromeda... they've turned it into Hercules in space. Jesus... just go watch the theatrical sparring going on between Tyr Anasazi and Dylan Hunt in the first season... the philosophical questions and moralities coming from Rev Bem... it was so perfect. The 5th season just didn't make sense for what the characters ended up being and doing. Horrible!

Since they all come on back to back, I watch Battlestar Galactica, which is much better than the original, and the two Stargate series.
Edit: How can you not like BG? Starbuck is a hot, smart, tough chick who's in love with her dead fiancee's brother while she sleeps (well, I guess just once) with genious Dr/VP who has hallucinations (or chip) of a hot cylon. Does it get better?
