stDarNES1: Stars! -- UPDATE 7

GALACTIC NEWS ORGANIZATION (NDE 7)
Thank you, Argemelion Cranxx. That was a most enjoyable piece on the benefits of Grey Goo. We'll catch up with you later and see how your experiments with the Blue Goo are going.
But now, we bring you to one of the most hotly anticipated segments: Simians in Space! Thanks to you, our wonderful Multi-Pan-Dimensional Viewers, this segment has now become the NUMBER 1 multi-cast this network has ever had!
And we bring you to our host, Mr Dee! How goes it out there, Mr Dee?
<crackle> Good evening, Mr Grey. I must say, we're finally getting a handle on all this interference. Let's hope it lasts. There have been some interesting happening around here in the last year, so let's get right to it...
Astral Sojourners
The Sojourners have continued trading technology with the odd Dysonians, increasing their knowledge of Robotics. At the same time, Scientists have unlocked newer ship weaponry, and their fleets are in the process of being upgraded.
More development can be seen in the Enemsi and Nox Systems. The Sojourners have taken a liking to those Systems, and hard work, dedication, and significant investments seem to be paying off.
The Border Patrol Fleet has taken up defensive patrolling positions around the jumpgate leading to Phellant.
The warfleet Bringers of the Dawn makes the jump to Sierra, for a confrontation with the hostile and malfunctioning Old Dominion Defense Net. Throughout the entire jump, the fleet undergoes extensive combat training to prepare for the inevitable battle. Tensions are high, but the entire fleet is confident. First through the jumpgate into Sierra is a specially modified asteroid, which draws the initial fire from the Defense Net. The asteroid is quickly destroyed, fragments spreading out all around the jumpgate. Not ten seconds after the asteroid is unleashed against the Defense Net, the carrier group emerges, immediately unleashing all 75 of its fighters. The carriers take up defensive positions, offering a barrage of cover fire for the brave fighters. The fighter squadrons, well rehearsed after the long jump, spread out and use the asteroid as cover.
The battle is a brilliant display of tactical genius, given the operating power of the Defense Net, and the small attack force. For a while, despite heavy initial losses, it seems as if the Bringers of the Dawn are winning. Several lucky (and skillful shots) have disabled a multitude of the Defense Net weaponry, but it is not enough. Despite bravery and skill, the warfleet is overwhelmed. The battle, which took just under an hour, ends in defeat and loss of the warfleet. Shortly after the last shots are fired, the transport group exits the jumpgate, fingers crossed that the warfleet succeeded. Sadly, the transports are cut down by the Defense Grid, and their materials added to the wreckage surrounding the jumpgate.
Transmissions received at the Military Outpost in Sabro indicate that the Defense Grid was severely damaged, and a little more luck, or maybe a few more ships, would've sounded victory. Military tacticians are analyzing the data, hoping the Defense Grid does not have an auto-repair function.
(SOJOURNERS: -10 transports, -3 carriers, -75 fighters, -1,000 colonists)
Harpellian Hegemony
Scout1 reaches Lander after a 3 year jump. What they find is a veritable Eden amongst Star Systems (MDP: 10). The 12 Planet Systems has several habitable planets in the Inner System, two asteroid belts with plenty of useful minerals, and gas giants aplenty for fuel and other elements.
Harpellian Scientists, after extensive research and experimentation with the genetic code, have unlocked secrets that will help alter a person's very DNA. The Military is excited about this new technology, and has set up proposals to create Genetically Modified Soldiers (gentroops). It is not clear yet whether the Hegemony will condone such use of the technology, though.
The factories in Harpell have spewed out another 100 fighters. Development occurs in Qomoc System, bringing additional income into the Hegemony.
Haven
New fighters and carriers are constructed at Xanthus Prime. Despite the Military's insistence that these new ships needed to be sent to Byblos, production demands prevented that from happening. The Sentinel jumps from Hr'Tor to Centaus. TF Beta jumps to Naqu, and TF Alpha jumps to Byblos. Silence jumps to Venever.
Innovative Technology has led the colonists on Byblos to not only give the Aquinna a chance to explore out of the water, but also to pilot a starship! In just a few short years, the colonists on Byblos have brought the Aquinna from a primitive aquatic society to member of an interstellar faction. Some scientists caution advancing the Aquinna too quickly, but they are in the minority.
Intense study is continued on non-Xanthus diseases. The research has led to a whole new level of genetic engineering (Biotech 3). Scientists are optimistic that the principles being learned today will help protect against the Scourge tomorrow.
Miria
Heavy investments begin in the Arrakis, Emey, and Ingram Systems, bringing about a new level of development. The colonies are now mostly self-sufficient. Research is begun on new ideas for construction.
A Carrier breaks off from the fleet in Kalekka and jumps to Kicrem (MDP: 6). As it exits the jumpgate, it detects the all-too-familiar, and all-too-deadly signatures of the Scourge. Despite a valiant maneuver, the Scourge overwhelms the carrier. (-1 Carrier)
Republic of ZIB
ZIB scoutships make jumps to nearby systems. New Zion is developed further, including the addition of a new SpaceStation.
Skyjack Conclave
Scorpleten1.2 jumps from Vayin to Ceiti. Scorpleten1.1 jumps to Nos with 19k colonists and established a Skyjack presence in the system. Investment in Vayin pays off with increased development and economic returns.
Lambert's Ring churns out a large number of fighters and carriers, more so than before, thanks to the high output of the Madya Halo. A new project begins at Lambert's Ring, known only as "the Taylor Protocols." What little information is known about this new project is that it will aid in research and possibly boost computerized efficiency, something the Skyjacks have always sought after.
At Vayin, a team of researchers has boarded the Old Dominion Cruisers in an attempt to unlock secrets from the ancient technology. Progress is made, but nothing worthwhile is gained at the moment. The researchers press the Conclave for a budget extension, vowing that they can gain valuable knowledge from the Cruisers if they have the right equipment for the job. (it costs 3EP to gain tech knowledge. You've invested 1EP so far).
Imperial Republic of Trinity
Exodus Fleet established a new colony on Pr'ator. Initial scouting reports tribes of barely-sentient reptilioids living in an early stone age. Currently, these being do not represent a threat, as they run away whenever the colonists approach.
Nolat and Asuka Systems are improved to a new quality of life for the colonists. Still not like home, but better than it was before. The Republic opens up trade relations with the Corporate State of Imerik. Real revenue is expected to begin in just a few short years. New research has improved upon existing ship weapon designs, and all ships in the fleet are being fitted with the new technology.
The Excelsior Fleet is loaded with 4 more SJACs and then makes the jump to Kalekka, immediately taking up a defensive position. Initial contact is established with the Miria Faction.
Yolin jumps to Tron. Shalin jumps to Hari. Ra jumps to Rangor (MDP: 8) and finds a lush star system ripe for colonization. Sypher jumps to Hern. Obelisk jumps to Sakri'i. Two new transport fleets of 5 ships apiece are established at Trinity: Tram and Hemp. Both fleets make the jump to Nolat.
At long last the Monty Python project is completed, and already the technicians and engineers assigned to work with it are fed up with its constant off-base humor, that it claims is modeled after an ancient 2d comedy from 'brits'
UCCT
Cassini jumps to Argus, making contact with the Republic of ZIB and the Trinetev Composition. Scoutship Nova begins the 3 year jump to Jemma. 5 Transports break from the Totalus Defense Fleet (filled up with colonists) and jumps to Crisium, joining the Alphalian Fleet.
It seems that genetic engineering is sweeping across this region, as the UCCT successfully completes their experiments on the human gene structure. Crisium is developed by the Corporations, bringing new economy to the fledgeling star system.
In Totalus, 50 new Fighters enter the fleet.
Zentraedi
Collapsing in on itself, the Zentraedi faction begins isolating itself from the rest of the Region. All ships are returned to Holden.
...And so it goes in the Backwater Region, Mr. Grey. Back to... <crazzipop....> damn!
