A little background:

The world has just overcome the first world war it has seen. France, the greatest power, with China, Britain and New Zealand (Grand Entente Alliance) was pitted up against Egypt, Italy, Russia, Teutonic Order, Japan, Sahara, and the African Union (ACE) along with USSA. I urge you to read:

Spoiler :
The French fleet, the major competitor in the war against ACE, has been split up into three groups. An elite class of ironclads have been sent to Japan, and a Mediterranean fleet has been assembled. Of that Mediterranean fleet, half will bombard and land troops in Italy, while the rest will be in Egypt.

Upon reaching the Mediterranean Sea, the French navy met the combined navies of Egypt and Italy, which were less trained and equipped, and also less in number then the French fleet. A fierce battle broke out near the Gulf of Lyons against the Egyptians, and another battle against the Italians near Sardinia. Both were victorious for the French, who did loose many ships, but not anywhere compared to the Egyptian and Italian losses. The remaining fleets of the two returned home to hide in ports.

Continuing on, the French were attacked from the rear with the whole of the Russian navy. One man died of laughter, and one ship sunk from an earlier battle as the Classical Age Russian fleet was sunk.

French fleet continued on to Egypt, where at the mouth of the Nile in the rich fertile heartland of Egypt, French troops landed following a heavy French bombardment. Ironclads were able to drop huge stores of iron and other metal blocks, as well as a lot of dirt in the mouth of the Nile. While the attempt to flood was mostly unsuccessful, it did overflow a few northern canals for now. Meanwhile, the French invasion consisted of 937,500 men, a pinch against the 1,375,000 Egyptian men defending their country. However more the Egyptians had, the French had the fact of a bombardment from behind, as well as machine guns that fortified a front.

Meanwhile, Egyptian troops struck at French Nigeria with 687,500 men, against only tens of thousands. The Nigerian colonial army is able to hold the Egyptians at bay in the dense jungle, though not for long. The Moroccans invade French Carthage, though the resistance is tough in the desert against the fortified French, though the French are loosing numbers that can not be replaced. In the jungles the Saharans are finding resistance in the villages and cities that dot the land, not much French military resistance though. Movement is slow in the jungle.

Finally, the Italians and Teutons both launch invasions of France proper. At the same time, the French were invading Italy itself. However, there were more French soldiers, and the French were better equipped, and soon pushed the Italians into war on their own turf, where Egyptians were also fought against. However, in the east, the Teutonic Order has launched a huge invasion of a virtually undefended French border. They quickly make haste, taking the Low countries, and almost taking Paris before France's gaurdian angel comes. British troops show up in Paris, and are able to push the Teutons back some considerable land.

Meanwhile, on the east side of the world, Japanese ships were snuck attacked by French ironclads that devastated the Japanese fleet and forces on the mainland of China. Chinese forces then pushed the Japanese almost out of China, the Japanese are forced with limited ammunition and food supplies. Beijing was liberated.

Update Fifty-Eight 1829ad.

Sumer has completed the first Middle Eastern ironclads, based mostly off of French designs; these ironclads are now the strongest in the world, mounting three gun turrets and state-of-the-art armor and engine.

The last of the Japanese soldiers evacuate China and head home to Japan. This war has been very costly on the new nation, and the losses will forever lie on the Japanese minds. The economic stress alone is now taking a hold of the Japanese economy.

Pacifican shipyards, after the decline of the Japanese naval power, have boomed to an unexpected high! The largest in east Asia, the Pacificans are able to pump out as much production as about 75% of French ports, the second highest in the world! Immediately they are put to Ironclad/Longboat production.

The largest draft the world has ever seen has happened in both the major warring countries of France and Egypt. Egypt gathers close to two million conscript soldiers from the far reaches of the desert and Nile, while France is able to muster a gigantic four million men from throughout the world.

French troops push hard, over 800,000 French men pushed up the Nile, with full support of over a quarter of the French navy. The half a million Egyptians, however, had the advantage of fighting on their turf, knowing every trail and every fort, as well as every bend of the Nile. However, it was not enough to stop the French. Breaking the lines, the French advanced as far as Cairo, capturing the major port, but then something miraculous happened. Egyptian citizens, meaning men, women and children of all ages filled the trenches outside Cairo to defend their beloved Thebes. This stopped the French advance, and so the first stalemate in Egypt has occurred. Even with the arrival of Moroccan and Saharan forces, the Egyptians were not able to take back Cairo.

Before another stalemate occurred, French troops landed in Carthage and were able to take back some limited land. However, the Moroccan numbers were able to set up a front that is now holding the French advance.

French navy has entered the Nile on one sole purpose – the destruction of the Egyptian economy. And while most of the Lower Nile belongs to France (the most productive part), the Upper Nile still contains vital farms for Egyptian armies. Steaming south, the Ironclads are already held up in Thebes where huge ground defenses have been mounted to keep out the ironclads. The battles continue to this day.

The Suez Canal, being very closely guarded by most of the Egyptian army, is attacked by French Ironclads. The canal is successfully defended by the massive amount of cannons and other ground defensive units that were able to keep the ironclads out. However, the blockade of the Canal has had it’s effect on the Egyptian economy.

French Nigeria falls to the assault of Egypt, Sahara and, later on, the African Union, mostly due to the fact that France did not send any more soldiers to back up the militia.

French Seychelles and Maldives are first blockaded from supplies by the Arabians, and then out-right invaded. The battles were successful for Arabia, loosing hardly anything to the starved French militia.

USSA troops reach the Hudson Bay after a surprise attack on British forces in Canada. Close to a million men charged into Canada. However, the British forces were held up in the eastern major cities, where the USSA hasn’t even touched yet, and vital ports will be able to receive supplies and reinforcements next turn.

Seeing the obvious easiness of the mission, USSA troops launch an island-hopping campaign against the French in the Caribbean. Capturing the Bahamas and the Lesser Antilles quite quickly, the USSA were held up in Cuba and Haiti. Every attempt at invasion in Haiti were repulsed by French soldiers, as well as Havana in Cuba.

Russian troops dive into French Brazil, taking lots of land quickly and without a fight yet. However, there is rumor that a huge French militia build up is more inland, and frightens many Russian army personnel

French forces in Italy were replaced with British ones who held the lines with newly modeled machine guns that have a higher RPM then any gun in the world, double. The poorly trained, fed, and equipped Italian troops are at Britain’s mercy. Finally the British push forward and gain some more land in Italy. .

Against the orderless Teutonic Order, the French were able to take some land, but not much. The Teutonic Order soldiers outnumber the French almost 3 to one, but superior weapons and training on the French side even it out.

Ozeanian troops land in Madagascar! Fully unaware of this attack, and without a navy, Africa quickly looses Madagascar to Ozeania in a obvious attack against ACE.

Three new technology outbreaks in the world of 1830! In the French super port of Paris, a new ship is designed that is named the Dreadnaught. Estimated to be as powerful as 5 ironclads, these dreadnaughts were soon set in full production, and already three are made.

In Seoul, Pacifica, militarists were able to conjure up the way to make long-range artillery! Immediately all of the old fashioned cannons are replaced with this wondrous artillery that can shoot 20x further then the old cannons.

In Teutonic Order and Haifa, Sumer, simultaneously these nations have developed a way to make poisonous gas and equip it with the Pacifican artillery. However, two things go wrong. One, the Pacifican artillery technology is still solely Pacifican; no other nation knows how to work it. And two, the technologies slipped out in the Teutonic Order where Russia got a hold of it, and then France, and then the world (not willingly).

Japan is invaded! Using their newly developed military arsenal, the Pacificans invade the Islands of Japan in three places! Half of the Japanese fleet is destroyed again as the Pacificans gear up for the invasion. Landing in Hokkaido first, the Pacificans easily gain the whole island as most of the Japanese were on Honshu. It was not so successfully done on the other islands, though. The Japanese were able to hold the invasion on both Honshu and Kyushu, where huge casualties on both sides lead to a stalemate. However, Pacifican casualties are almost triple that of Japanese losses.

Northern Senegal, the first colony of the Russian Federation, was sold to the Saharan Republic.

France holds lines in Egypt through the introduction of the dreadnaughts into the area, as well as most of the ironclad fleet in the Nile to defend the front from Egypt. However, Egyptian and Moroccan forces have been able to recapture Alexandria, and Egyptian and Saharan forces push France out of the Suez. French Carthage falls.

French Mexico is attacked by the USSA, where the red army makes considerable gain in the highly industrious lands, as well as witness the surrender of Havana and Jamaica to USSA forces. However, they fair worse in Canada. With the arrival of near two million British men, the USSA are outnumbered four to one, and have the other penalties of inferior technology as well as training. The British navy is also able to help bombard coast fortresses they encounter, enabling the British army to squeeze around the fortifications. Also, the USSA armies are hit from behind as the British Canadian colonial army advance from the west.

In Europe, the French have been able to overrun the Teutonic forces once again as their leader seems to neglect the front. The French are now fighting at the Teutonic Order border.

British make considerable ground against the Italians as more conscripts are thrown at the British and are gunned down. British also have incorporated many conscripts who make up the rear in keep supplies running and filling in for any gaps. After long fighting, the British are able to capture Rome! Luckily, the Italian government was already evacuated to the Teutonic Order. The navy also helped in taking the capital.

The Russians in South America take more land as the French continue to neglect the colony. Thanks to rail disruptions by French and British spies, Russian reinforcements were stalled and were not able to reach the French front this turn.

Arabian ships are destroyed near Madagascar where the Ozeanians set up defensive procedures.

Update Sixty 1831ad.

ACE allied spy networks have confirmed huge amounts of salt being stockpiled somewhere in France, but it is not known what the salt is for.

All of French eastern Brazil has fallen to Russian armies as the colonial militiamen retreat to the mountains in the west. Fortifications are noted to being built, and the Brazilians have declared their independence from France (due to lack to support) and has pledged their allegiance to the Brazilian country.

Russian armies sweep into British Greenland, taking the most fertile lands first, and the most populated areas (though not saying much). The British colonial force there is expected to rise due to the resistance to the Russians, and already guerilla operations are under way in the occupied territory to rid the land of the Russians.

Sumerian ports have reached the same level as French ports in Mexico and France. They are able to handle the largest payloads and are the most efficient ports in the world. Due to this, the ironclads being produced have more then doubled in rate.

The Pacificans have created their own form of a Dreadnaught that they call a “Destroyer”. These ships have mounted artillery, modified for mounting on a ship, and are much larger in size. However, due to the largeness and weight, the Destroyers cost much more then the dreadnaughts, and take a lot longer to build, especially in the run-down ports of Pacifica.

In the war on Japan, the Pacificans have made advances, but the losses are tallying up as the Japanese play an effective guerilla war, and the Pacifican artillery is unable to attack since there are no large fronts. Also, a new force has entered the islands from the other side, and is soon recognized as Vietnamese. They make tons of advances against almost nothing. However, the whole population of Japan has rallied before the country, and a new-armed force is soon on the way.

The British fleet has sunk the whole of the USSA navy very easily. But that is not all. The British navy has also begun a full-scale bombardment of the coast of USSA, with major ports like New York and Boston, as well as Miami are now all in rubble, crippling the shipbuilding capability of the USSA. And to add fuel to the fire, the British have landed a small force in Halifax, taking the peninsula and the capital. Laving the lands mostly defenseless, British forces reoccupied Canada.

USSA makes huge strides in Mexico against the non-existent front, but things are soon to change. Mexico has proclaimed itself independent from France, and has begun to mobilize a new army that will fight out the invaders.

The French are pushed back in Egypt because of less and less reinforcements are arriving.

Huge forts have been constructed on the French-Teutonic border, on the French side. These lines of forts, known as the Maginot Line, are huge in numbers and consist of new artillery developed, trenches and tunnels, and machine guns. They are able to successfully hold the Russian and Teutonic advance, especially when equipped with the huge numbers of soldiers that are.

Italy has been fully taken over by British forces! The island fortress of Sicily is all that remains with most of the Italian army there, ready to defend from any kind of invasion the British may have.

After pulling what resources they had to their only industrial port of Oakland, the Sioux are able to commission their first ironclad, thought it is of poor quality and of inferior technology to those of the super ironclads of France, Sumer and Pacifica.

Liberia is given independence.

Taking their only chance, the Saharan republic invades the weak country of Liberia after given independence from Russia. The troops easily overrun the small-unorganized militia and take the whole country.

France and ACE have finally made peace. More then half of the ironclad fleet of France is given to Britain in a signature of friendship and pact. Half a million men are decommissioned as well as the whole of the army is immobilized. France is now deep in foreign debt as well, as economic levels were paid to four nations, France dips into depression. Many starve to death. This is all under the Treaty of Versailles.

Brazil continues to invade the Russian-held lands of French Brazil, under the reason that the land rightfully belongs to the people who inhabit it.

To show how much resources and work the destroyers take, all 15 elite ironclads of Sumer were only able to build two destroyers. And even when the greatest port in the world, Haifa, was put to the task to build a destroyer, it could only build on in this year.

The Dark Shroud has appeared to have disbanded, as the Sumerians and Sinhalese were unable to locate any.

A few hard-core Mongolians decide to lead a revolt of the pre-occupied Mongolia. A few elitists proclaim the boundaries of Mongolia.

The war in Japan is starting to come to an end as Edo is captured and most of the mainland island is taken. Though the guerilla warfare is doing great numbers on the Pacifican military, it is not slowing the advance.

Britain and USSA make peace. Britain has begun to set up a government in Italy, while many of the army held up in Sicily decides to agree to put down arms, those still there are being pounded by the British navy.

The new Socialist government of Panama has taken the French lands of Panama.

For the maps, go to the NES itself. The first update of war is on page 82. The war ends with update 61 on page 89. Happy reading.

Basically you got the very industrialized countries (in this order: France, Britain, USSA, Egypt, Pacifica), the ones between (Sumer, Russia, Spain, Sinhala, Morocco, Canada), and then the rest.

Newly established countries (Canada was established not in stJNES4, but in this NES it was part of the treaty, retains close ties with Britain. Other ones: Uruguay, Brazil, and Panama) are in the phase of consolidating their country, and are susceptable to revolutions/civil wars. Beware.

The Sioux are occupying northern parts of Mexico because of a war in the past. They havn't withdrawn. Denmark has already invaded Victoria island to get them to withdraw. Ozeania (Mexico's protector) is also pressuring the Sioux to withdraw.

There is also a small scale rebellion in Pacifica by Mongolians who want to re-establish Mongolia.

Any questions about your nation should be asked on the thread, so everyone can read and get familiar with the world. I will try and talk historically in updates.

Btw, those update lengths are what you should expect from this NES as well. I also hope to update every 3 days. But don’t hold your breath.

Welcome to stJNESII: 2

This NES is an industrial age NES, beginning when most of the world has adopted industrialization. It is based off of the history of stJNES4: The Normal Story NES. The rules are almost the same.

To increase a military, it takes 1 turn, and decreases your economy by one. You may also train your army, the training going by Farmers, Poorly Trained, Trained, Well Trained, Superior, and then Elite. To train it takes 1 turn and may lower your armed forces by some. More on this later.

Army growth rule change: from now on, the following list is what you should go by when increasing your army. You may conscript only once per turn, and only twice in total (once you release your conscripts, you may once against conscript them). Remember the penalties of conscription (- moral, -confidence, and even -economy in rare cases).

Also, for each subsequint economy spent on increasing army, the troops you get from it will decrease by five. So if I can recriut 25,000 troops, and i spend 2 economies on the army, then I will get 45,000 troops (25,000 + (25,000 - 5,000)). Conscription does not count.

Also, if you look at Sicily's stats, you will notice a new section. POW's will now be shown in your stats. They are purely for your own diplomatic ventures, and to take into realization that most casualties in wars are actually surrenders nowadays. You may do what you wish with POW's, use them for diplomatic leverage, or use your imagination. They do become a burden though, on your economy, if they get too large and you treat them well...
- New Rules

For each subsiquent economy you spend on increasing the more powerful ships (anything in your navy stat thats not "ship"), your production goes down one. For example, I'm Egypt and I spend 3 economies on Ironclads (*cough*). The first economy would get me 5 Ironclads. The second would get me 4, the thrid, 3, all the way down to 1 (which repeats). - New Rule

Second, you can mobilize your army for a bonus in attacking. You can mobilize 200,000 troops in one turn. For every 100,000 men after that, it takes one more turn to mobilize. You must one wait turn after your army finishes mobilizing to have the effect (so if I mobilize my army on turn A in my orders, the troops CANNOT fight until turn B).

Each time you increase your army, it will be increased by 10,000 men now normally. Sometimes it will vary when you increase, depending on what population of your country is and if it is in war or not. It also has a lot to do with the industrial capacity of your country, especially when it comes to the navy. Right now, you can increase your navy by 10 ships for an economy. The number of ironclads you get varies from nation to nation.

About training. To train your troops from poor to moderate, it will cost an economic level and will lower you troop number. However, to have a trained army means you must have a stable economy (anything below “trained” does not have an economic requirement). If you dip below stable, your army will gradually drop in training. You increase training from moderate to well trained the same, but to have a well trained army your economy must never dip below Growing. If you can't then your troops training will go down. Another way to train your troops is to fight wars. I will be determining how much training your troops get from wars.

Same goes for navy with training.

To Increase your economy, you must do something first - build roads, decrease taxes, do something. If you want to increase economy that is the only thing you can increase that turn. It takes one turn.

Economy Sizes:
Depression
Recession
Failing
Stable
Growing
Prosperous
Outstanding

Confidence in leader is determined on how much you right stories. If it is high, your military will fight better, and you may receive gifts and such.

I will determine when each person advances an age. Education helps. Raise education with one economy level.

You may have UU's that you make. You can only have one per nation per age. You make it and describe it.

Trade
To trade it costs: A,) 2 economic levels per route per person. B.) a sea route clear of any enemies or a train connection. A trade route can be broken by an enemy. You get an economic boost every three turns for each partner. You can have a sea route without a navy, but you must have a coastline. You may go through a neighbor nation to get to another through train tracks if you have permission.

Conscription
You are able to conscript only army. How it works is this: You can, in time of need, activate a draft in which your army will be increased, how much will be subject to my decision (will mostly be based on population and size of empire). This does not take an economy level. The only bad thing is that these soldiers will be very poorly trained and lower the moral of your people. You also get more according to your government (fascist side of the spectrum get more troops in conscription). Oh, and for conscription you must have industrial age.

And the map.

Spoiler Note about Map :

For a city to be represented on the map, it must have more then 1 million citizens. Capitals are recognized regardless.

EDIT: Fixed the map a bit to show Panama and moved Brazilian capital.

No, they actually began as Scotland. England was controlled by the Kuyper Confederation, which was actually based in northern France and Holland. After a war, the Scottish occupied the south and renamed it Britain. They then moved the capital to London.

Also my government is better termed as the Imperial Republic of Greater Egypt.

IT is running off the Bismarkian Imperial Democracy. The current Chancellor is Wilken Yu of the Militarist Party. Pharoh Nubriyah I is the Head of State.

Hope this clears a few things up.

I would join as Ozeania (which i controlled after Kazakhstan went belly up) but update every 3 days is too much for me.

Egyptian Story

Pharoh Nubriyah and the Cabinet returned to the great city of Thebes. Although it had never felled the high officals that constituted the war time government retreated to another strongpoint to relieve some pressure on the capital.

During the war the provincial boundaries were redrawan to incorporate the new territory taken from the crumbling Franco Empire and the population redistribution of the last decade, due to the industrialisation of much of the new country.

The new map was unveiled on the eve of the new year, the first for almost eight to not know war with france. While Egypt still remained at war with Britian and Ozeania the hopes of a quick and easy solution remained high.

The situation in France remained grim however and food aid would begin to be pumped into the nation to keep the population from starving.

Egyptian Diplomacy

To the Empire of Ozeania
From the Greater Egyptian Empire

To the government of Ozeania. We propose a peace settlement with your nation. In return for this you will withdraw from Madagascar returning the province to the African Union. Deal?

From Pharoh Nubriyah the Great
Pharoh of Egypt.

To the Greater Empire of Pacifica

To the Emperor of Pacifica, We propose the following. Japan is no longer considered a member nation of ACE, due to the inability of ACE to defend it. Futhermore we propose a trade of one economy level for the plans to the artillery that Pacifica enjoys. Deal?

Pharoh Nubriyah the Great
Pharoh of Egypt.

To the Greater Russian Republic

To the first Consul of Russia, we propose that you retire from the Brazillian lands or make peace with them post haste. Futhermore I ask you to recognise the takeover of Liberia by the Sahran Union. Sahara remains an integral part of ACE, Liberia was another nation on an already crowded continent.

Pharoh Nubriyah the Great
Pharoh of Egypt.

To The French Empire

To the Emperor of France. We demand that you decomission a futher 10 ironclads and scuttle them into the ocean. Your keeping 15 is in violation of the Treaty of Versailles and will spell the end of your crippled nation. We also psopose that we send food aid for your people who starve in the streets at this very juncture. Also any non-French living in France are able to leave France to live in Egypt for the time being. You must also give independence to Uruguay, or else the treaty is void.

Pharoh Nubriyah the Great
Pharoh of Egypt.

To the Republic of Britian

To the President of Britian. We propose a peace settlement so we are no longer at war with one another. Futhermore we propose British entry to ACE.

Pharoh Nubriyah the Great
Pharoh of Egypt.

Egyptian Orders

occ: You did not upgrade my army size in the last update, can you please upgrade it in this update?

remember emu that orders for this nes are very easy to do...as everything costs one economic level, you cannot do much. but alas, i am glad you decided not to join instead of joining and then dropping out.
