stJNESX: From Bad to Good
Update 8: 1300bce
The first constructed inter-city road in Canaan is completed between the capital and the trading metropolis of Eilat. Trade goods from the Saracen Empire now enter the city of Jericho, and tax free because of the bypassing of the Akkadian tax. This has led to widespread celebration and an influx in purchases, leading more money for the economy.
The scattered Hun armies migrate south, away from the war-torn, poor lands of the Novgorodians that they once conquered. Here on the steppes they begin to form a government, and even went so far as to salute to a new ruler, Limus II. Very rapidly new settlements, permanent settlements, are being built and the once-called barbarians are soon settling down to civilized lives.
As the Shu empire grows, so do the civil unrest and rebellions. Already in the conquered province of Shang, rebellions rise up the need the attention of the Shu army, and has begun to wear down the forces in the area. More forces are needed, and they are just not to be found in such a huge and stretched empire as the Shu.
The Gujarati and the Persians have finally signed peace, and the Indus Valley returns to its economic powerhouse as it once was, though half of the profit is transferred to Persepolis instead of the Gujarat capital. In other news, Persia undergoes a grand population increase as the grain is accumulated from the Indus valley, and several new cities are sprung just in this century, including Satsu on the Indus River.
The first official trade route, agreed upon by the two nations and established with money and force, opens between the nations of Cyprus in the Mediterranean and Austria, thousands of feet above sea. However the differences, the trade is sensational, creating a whole new Austrian coastal city to handle the high-scale trade.
A grand mobile force is created in Ankara with the formation of a cavalry force. Every man in the army was stripped of his conventional arms and given a javelin or spear, whichever he preferred, and a noble steed that has been bred for war. The result is a highly trained, highly mobile mounted army, something a large nation could use to keep the rebellions at a minimum. Ironically, Ankara is the first to develop such a force, and is one of the smallest nations in the world.
A true republic is established in Hansea, finally reuniting, peacefully, the tribes of the Hanseatic League. The new republic is a first of its kind. Each tribe is represented in the capital by her leader, by whatever means he was able to become the leader of a tribe is entirely left up to the tribe. The leaders then form the Council, which acts as a balance to the King. The council has the power to veto anything the King does, given a majority of the Council disapprove of it. This has dramatically lessened the power of the King, and has truly put in jeopardy the future of the monarch.
Meanwhile, the missing Hun fleet was last spotted passing through the straights of denmark by a local tribesman of the Hanseatic League. The fisherman quickly reported it to the local army officer, but by the time the officer reached the shore, the fleet had already passed. It is assumed that it sailed off the end of the world, because it was never heard from again by the villagers there.
A Cypriot voyage began as the ships and army prepared to once again make the trek to Minoa, in secret. Attacking from the west rather then the expected east, the Cypriots raided the whole west coast, burning important villages and granaries while stealing whatever wealth was accumulated. The gains were enormous, both for moral and for treasury. The Minoans were hurt badly, economically, and morally. No large-scale military losses were reported on either side.
The treasuries of the Koguryo are emptied as spending increases dramatically on the army but the spending is what created a 2,000 man army, all equipped and trained as swordsmen. Meeting the repulsing Chinese on the field of battle, the Koguryos outnumbered the Chinese 4:1, and easily destroyed the army sent at them. The rest of the Chinese army was spread across the empire to keep order, and thus left Beijing open. The city was sacked and burned. This has had a huge impact upon the moral of the Chinese, and it seems as if China has been beaten. Without a capital, much of the army that is left cannot be trusted to perform in battle. Meanwhile, the treasures of Beijing have restocked the Koguryo treasury.
Casualties:
China 450 swordsmen, 75 archers, 100 horsemen
Koguryo - 400 swordsmen, 50 archers
With Takir aid and permission, the nation of Angleland is formed in northwestern Takir. This land had already accumulated the majority of the refugee Angles from Britain, and had out-populated the native Takiran population. The king of the nation is, of course, a vassal of the king of Takir, but the Angles are satisfied, being promised one day complete sovereignty.
The Takirans and Gaul continue their assault upon Massilia. The Takirans especially try something daring they split their army in two and one attacks from the north and the other from the east. The Massilians, confused at such a tactic, are scattered amongst the southern plains and mountains, and are finally routed and the capital, Massilia, is captured by Takiran forces. However, the Gaul fare worse, loosing much more men. With such high losses, and inevitable defeat, the Massilians surrender to the two nations, becoming the second victim to Takir. A major contributing factor to the demise of Massilia was the flee of the refugee army back to peaceful Carthage.
Casualties:
Takir 450 Legions, 55 spearmen, 30 Ching Guard
Gaul 350 spearmen, 100 archers, 200 clubmen
Massilia 500 Swordsmen, 400 Clubmen, 100 Archers
Carthage completely surrenders the island of Sicily to the Baelaric Kingdom, plus a tip of land on mainland Africa. In return, the Balearic Kingdom leaves the burnt ashes of Carthage.
With the absence of leadership, the Akkadians were almost hopeless in containing the Assyrians. This is when the Assyrians launch a counter attack, and broke through the Akkadian lines. Nothing but dirt stood in the way of Babylon and the Assyrian army, or so they thought. This was until an army, marched all the way from Canaan, intercepts them and defeats the Assyrians, whose empire is finally destroyed.
Casualties:
Akkadia 400 swordsmen, 100 archers
Canaan 300 clubmen, 50 archers
Assyria 500 Swordsmen, 90 Clubmen, 50 archers
The New Rivial, the official name of the Egyptian religion that has spread over to more then five nations, continues to grow against the barbaric religions of most nations. Next to form a majority in their country are the Saracens, who soon adopt the religion as their own. A sizable minority is growing rapidly within Canaan and Akkadia as well.
