Strategy Discussion and Guides

For the Japanese UHV. Are we supposed to 'control' the areas for the UHV or can we also vassalize it ? In my last game I attempted to capitulate Indonesia and when I did manage to capitulate it ( after conquering the cities of Palembang and Sundapura, but didn't get Indonesia marked for my UHV goal. I even conquered Malakka and the Dutch held city of Vijayapura but still no luck. What am I doing wrong here ?

Also for the Babylon game, I'm not sure how exactly to survive past the Persian spawn when the auto declare war on me. The option to flip incidentally includes Babili itself ! I got the tech and population goal easily enough would have gotten the culture too. If it wasn't for those meddling parsis :P

Vassals count too for the Japanese UHV, but you still have to control the required areas either directly or through vassals. Just vassalizing Indonesia doesn't count if they don't control the region.

Babylon was your capital founded on spot and still wanted to flip? I don't think that's supposed to happen, but you should be able to refuse without ill effects.

Oh that damn 5 vassals max. I regretted so much vassaling a 0 city Turkey...

I have a question:

I rolled an Egypt game (on last SVN) and bought some WChariot mercenary and started messing with the Hebrews of Yerushalayim. At some point, I got lucky with my warrior baiting archers and won (the warrior won over the last archer in the city on defense). Suddenly, next turn the city went disordered and then revolted without me having a single culture influence (from one of my city on Yerushalayim's city square). Except it said I had 50% of Egyptian culture there for no reason.

What would cause such a lucky flip. I suspect when I rampaged the garrison and left one warrior, the city had some flip RNG due to lack of garrison, but still I didn't overlap my culture over that city.

Another interesting point is that allowed to raze it (disband). I thought that city was proof-razing. Not that I whine. I never liked that city and when that happened I was so woohoo. One more slot for a good city elsewhere (given we are limited to 10 cities before the tech rate plummets).

Another question:
What's the deal with T75 where all my techs inflate in values?

Bis :)

Actually the option didn't list Babili , it listed only Susa. I didn't want to defend an extended front so I agreed to let that city flip, but babili went with it. Which was strange. I just won a game with Babylon in which I disbanded Susa when it flipped to me.

And in the Japanese game, I did control 4 out of 5 cities in the area shown as "Indonesia" in the tooltip and the Indonesians controlled the 5th as my vassals in addition to Palau. But it still didn't show Indonesia ticked.

Okay, reminds me that flips are supposed to be on the list of stuff that I want to rewrite.

Okay, now I'd like to see the save.

Lol, Leoreth is on ignore mode. I sure have no luck with DoCers.
Ok, I'll fetch my information myself.

If you really want a response from me, post in one of the main threads. All of that could have been answered by other users so I didn't bother.

Tech costs are readjusted throughout the whole game so the tech pace synchs with the eras, turn 75 is one of them.

Thanks. Confirmation is best from you, since you juggle with the mod every day (or two). Ok, I thought that thread was fit.

Yes, but I often acquire it via conquest as Persia, Rome, or any number of other civs, and having to defend it is frustrating due to its low production/food, and lack of strategic value. The shrine bonus is really only useful for the Arabians and Ottomans, as anything prior to the Euros would probably result in the 20 city cap not being reached at all. As has long been said, moving the city to make it a canal or settling additional GP in it would help make it more useful.

It's actually useful for any civ. I find while it's a mediocre city, as long as you're not the Phoenicians, you can deal effectively against the Seljuks and Arabs with good micro
and the Shrine bonus (while that may not be around for awhile longer) can massively increase your research rate via more gold via not having to worry about fiddling with the slider as much.

Question for Chinese UHV here. After having 3 golden ages I've been preparing for a fourth, I have 2 Great Engineers and 1 Great Merchant. In this game I spawned one Great merchant, and I can't click the option for the Golden age. It still says "need one more" . Do you need GPs of the same type or any GP would do ? Also is a golden age counted only after it's completed or is it enough if you simply start off a golden age ?

ok, but at 1704, I had 3 GPs for a golden age. 2 GEs and 1 GM. Still didn't get the Golden Age.

Thus, you need a prophet, spy, scientist or artist. Use one of those GEs.

@Leoreth

I have found the explanation why Yerushalayim a.k.a. Aerru-Hetepp flipped to me albeit I had no culture overlapping the city square.

It's a bug. But that doesn't matter I think because Mercenaries are off now, right?

The lead was once I captured Babilû, I got 9% culture in Yerushalayim for no reason, that evidently decreased over time. Still, that doesn't make sense at all.

Then, when I destroyed the Chinese, then gave up the city to the independents, bam, I got 100% Egyptian culture in Yerushalayim. That decreased fast, but my luck went that I got a revolt, then a flip.

I have no explanation in the strict sense, but I feel the conversion of culture from Egyptian to Independent in chinese capital made vice-versa in Yerushalayim.
Perhaps, the fact, two different continents assumption is another factor.

Truly bizarre, but tremendously exciting. I love bugs.
