SW3 - we are NINJA

you feeling ok, sw?

Translation (babelfish quality aka not good):

I have got the save, master (?).
I will build a big army, with lots of big sticks.
I don't like the jungle, because there are evil things there.
I prefer the ocean, since it's cool and nice.

pre turn... look around for that army... cant find it anywhere... nevermind, its poop up i guess.
ok, later on in the turn, i find it near Izumi, as was written in the scripture... i need to focous up.
rush galley in Khabarovsk (48g) and head it east. load our army with that MDI, hence forth dubbed Pancho Villa.

1- Omi rax > horse, Khabarovsk galley > galley, Matsuyama worker > worker (in 2, maybe a worker pump?)
kill some Koreans, but no MGL's, nor promotions.decide to rush the settler in Shimoneski (36g), Pancho starts the long walk toward mongolia proper.Nagasaki's settler walks drunkenly towards wines (escorted by some police... they're not all bad you know..)

2- Osaka MDI > MDI, Nara galley > pike, Nagoya MDI > MDI, Shimoneski settler > settler,
get an elite healthy AC redlined vs a red spear? and yet another spear reds an AC and a sword, this time Korean.

3- China signs on with the mongol dogs.... arggghhhh.
Matsuyama worker > worker, New osaka worker >treb,
spot some mongol MDI's coming my way. divert some troops to stomp 'em. army attacks 3 times - loses 6 hp but kills 2 pike and a MDI. start the suicide run. still afloat.

4- Bizen worker > treb, Hakodate MDI > settler,
take AT LONG LAST Erzen (that annoying mongol choker town) and raze, as i dont want to worry about rear things and there being quite alot of mongol MDI's lurking around. Pancho Villa now has 2 MDIs, and is very close to action.
New satsuma is built on wine colony (netting us those 3 wines, not that we can trade it to anyone...) > worker, Echigo worker > treb, Nagasaki MDI > MDI, Yokahama galley > settler, Matsuya worker > worker (turns out it really is a 2 turn worker factory, just not on auto, as it needs MMing every time), Ise MDI > pike, Edo worker > spear, and we get a VERY nice roof to our palace.
sw3_sw_540_17

i attack korea and Jackie's Chin is born. i think ill move him back home for some nice R&R and maybe he can lend a hand with that artist's project? whats his name? di caprio something? i keep forgeting :D
BTW our galley still floats, even in the high seas. wonderous indeed.
as we have over 2000g i rush 3 settlers for around 350g. all will head towards old korea.
build New Kagoshima > worker, hire a taxman in Sapporo to avoid riots... now how weird is that?

5- Toyama, Izumo, Shimoneski & Yokahama settler > settler, our heroic galley sinks. now i lose an E sword to koreans, so i will wait a bit for the troops to heal before i kill those off.
AT LAST>>>>> WE MEET THE THIN BALD GUY!!! :band:
he has 10 cities, Incense and spice, and no cash. double checking (i seem to forget to do that lately, as some of you might have noticed  ) i find that he also lacks IRON AND HORSES. regretably, we still cant trade.
he has quite the capital.
sw3_sw_540_19

i decide to pause here (after only 5 turns) as it is getting quite late after a very long day, and to discuss developments.
i WILL finish my set tomorow
your thoughts, gentlemen?
the mongolian front has some - 2 armies (1 AC, 1MDI), 5 AC's, 8 MDI's and 2 swords, with 3 more MDI closely behind.
most are wounded to some extent.
should i wait a few for more troops or just charge? attack plans please.
i favor going for Mandalgo > Dahran (furtown) > along the coast, and then double back.
i expect some chinese presence to be felt very soon.
sw3_sw_540_20

the korean front has: 3 AC + 2 swords most of which are truly battered. i will heal them up for 3 turns and then kill korea (in this incarnation) i should have 2 MDI's enroute as extra back up.
the korean lands abound with our settlers, which are enroute.
dots maps please, noble sirs.

Matsuyama worker > worker (in 2, maybe a worker pump?)
IIRC, correctly that why I built the granary there. Things are foggy, I was into the barley and hops.

I'll get a dot map up later. Things look good. Let the troops heal up and build SoD before proceeding.

We're the badest ninjas on the planet, don't thing we need stone throwers. Nice of Mao to break our deal so Kill Wang Volume 2 can proceed.

<insert munchkin music>

Heal the units before proceeding

Turn on research. Finish Inv and Chiv at max positive cash. I'd like to use samurai. Have we had our GA?

the tale continues....
i decide to heal up for a few before going on.
i try and up science, but as it is we get INV in 9 (+88gpt), upping it to 60 just loses us 33gpt and no speed up. up to 90 will will get it in 5 (4 turn gain, with a -125gpt. i would love those samurai, but i dont see the real gain here, so will stay at 0 research.

5- tokyo, Nagoya, MDI > MDI, kill some mongols (all reg MDI's) no losses.

6- Vladivostok pike > settler, Neo Tokyo workr > market (for the gold and gems), lose an MDI to mongols. kill 2 MDI's in the raze town.
build New Nara > worker,
nothing more... taking a break can be really boring.

7- Satsuma market > lib (can be a prebuild for leo's? then remember we got Pancho on his way...), Nagoya riots due to my indilligence i hire a taxman.
we get a nice porch to our hideout. and some spikes AND some gardens.
yellow brick road starts.
AT LAST Magdalgovi falls and is no more.
i rush Sapporo's market for 184g, as i want that taxmen in a productive setup.
Jefe Pancho arrived in Kyoto, and then i remember that a MGL cant rush a GW, so Tonto's Blade's is formed.

8- New edo worker > rax, Sapporo market > MDI, Sado spear > worker,

9- Heroic Epic is IN. start on Pentagon. i am not sure we really want this, but said "what the heck, its as good a prebuild as any, right?
Suo settler > worker, Vladivostok does it again.... i change to market.
India's LAHORE has GLighthouse.
i PLOW throughthe mongol MDI's, dispersing the SoD a bit but no loses to thier 6 MDI.
New Nagoya, New Izumo are built > worker,
lose an AC in mongolia

the end for now.

the indians seem to have 2 very nice islands all to themselves. the northern one only being settled now (*2 towns). we have 2 galleys there having a looksee.
Mongol front looks ok, with 2 AC, 1 sword, 3 MDI and 1 AC army on scene + 2 MDI, 1 AC & 1 MDI army close by.
Korea is dead next turn (4 AC, 3 swords - all close to full HP)

2234g in bank, +144gpt and Invention in 4. couldnt make it faster even with 100%.
we are equal to the rest, but up ENG on india. baldie has nothing to offer for it though.

Good turns, SW. However, the next person needs to check a lot of cities, since a lot are close to rioting (it appears war weariness is catching up on us).
About our GA, I believe we did get it when we built the Statue of Zeus. Just let me check...yep, on post 72 (your turn, actually, SW ;) )

We'll have to talk about invading India pretty soon. However, with Gandhi's ENORMOUS force in Delhi, killing his leader is not going to be easy. However, Gandhi lacks Iron and Horses, so the best defensive unit will be spears UNLESS he has saltpeter. Since he'll be the only civ left when we attack him, most likely, our rep won't be a problem. Maybe we should send a few units over there to get in position to pillage any saltpeter he has (we'll know where it is before him, too)? As long as you don't mind a sneak attack, that is, SW.

soul warrior - just went
ÆnigmÆffect - up now
IroquoisPlisken - on deck
Row&Live -
tubby rower - skipped
Admiral Kutzov -

Looking at save.

Be ironic if we finish this without ever having samurai.

sneak attack :nono: even in endgame. Although IIRC ninjas were outside the code of bushido, feel we should maintain our honor in keeping with the spirit of the game.

hmm...note to self: think like a ninja...well, ninjas were "sneaky"...why can't we make a "sneak attack"? ;) no I'm just kidding. I agree we should keep our honor.
So, I say we attack India ASAP, before they get muskets.

T0
Wow, lots of cities gonna revolt. Cranked Lux to 20%, rushed a couple of markets in bigger cities.

IBT
Got a MGL! Yay!
India built Great Library.

T1
I must've turned all remaining scientists into something else, because Invention now takes -- turns. Changed some random dude back into scientist.
Sold Engineering for 30 gold.
Took Darhan
Killed Koreans

T4
Took Baruun-Urt. Decided to keep it.
Got an MGL out of it... Wow, 2 in one turn set :)
Lost an MDI, though...

T5
Well well well, India got Monotheism... Should grab it to get Samurais, or just gun for Cavalry? He wants Invention for it... This is a tough call. The earlier we get samurais the more effective they are. I should take India quite a few turns to crank out Invention, if he goes that route... I'm gonna do it. I don't think we can really lose this game anyway...

So, the trade:
MA vs. Chinese and Invention for Mono and 40 gold. Figured India going to war will prolly slow down a bit of their research.

Playing with research:
Chivalry:
6 turns at -51 (-306)
5 turns at -79 (-395)
4 turns at -143 (-572)

We have 2300 gold in treasury. I think 4 turns is the best bet, since we can lower research right after chiv to recoup 1 turn of cash.

Changing all MDI to Horseman, to upgrade to Samurai

T6
...

IBT
Lost 2 MDI...

T7..T10

Didn't really keep track that well. It's getting late, and I'm not pushing for too much action here. Got a couple of samurais, a whole bunch building. I should've build more horseman for upgrading (Chiv came after only 2 horses built).

There's a couple of armies that still need filling (Samurais). One's called "Shinsengumi", and another's just called "Army", both in the front lines (different cities).

Some basic infrastructure work.

Note: For all towns that are severely corrupted, don't bother mining. Just irrigate to get more food.

Also, I was trying to improve our core cities to get more shields. Whoever's next should keep doing that, sending some workers back to improve those cities instead of outliers.

The save:

i agree with the admiral
goodcall on the trades
BTW samurai DO upgrade to cavalry later on.
lets pump 'em up.

soul warrior -
ÆnigmÆffect - just got us true ninja (or should i say Ronin?)
IroquoisPlisken - about to pump us full of NinJuice
Row&Live - hope you're thirsty
tubby rower - believe youre back from ChiTown....
Admiral Kutzov - believed you knew that answer... apparently Igor's lost your Civ3 manual :)

Good work. I agree with the trade. Even though we already had our GA, Samurai are still great units, and we'll be able to upgrade them to Cavalry later (samurai are the replacement for Knights, so they have to upgrade to cavalry, even though that doesn't really make much sense...).

Got it. Will post later tonight, probably.

Note:

I dropped research super low, so we'll want to figure out whether we want to gun for Cavalry, or use the cash to buy a samurai or two every turn, or save for infrastructure buildings in newly gained territory.

To safely battle with India, we might need better boats, since we don't want to risk losing guys in caravels. Thinking about it now, if there's no good sea route to India, then we either: risk caravels, or play this out for the long haul, waiting for better ships (which we might want to start building caravels for mass upgrade).

Our land mass right now is just huge, and our most productive cities are as far away from the front lines (and safe sea route) as possible, taking MANY turns to get to the front, where there *might* be a safe sea route. (It's better now with Samurais, since they're 2 movement). We need to think this out.

how bout a minimap screenie?

Pre-turn – Increase Science to 50% -30 gpt, Gunpowder due in 8 turns.

IBT – Darhan riots.

760 (1) – Kill a barb camp in the SE. Add another Samurai to Shinsengumi. Wait for a LOT of Goto orders…

IBT – Darhan is back under control. A Mongol galley appears off the coast of Khabarovsk. Indians start Knight’s Templar.

770 (2) – Izumi settler->worker. New Kyoto settler->treb. New Osaka treb->worker. Rush galley in Khabarovsk for 92 gold.

Battle for Karakorum: I only have Pancho Villa (13/13 MDI Army) and Ancient Glory (17/17 AC army) to attack, so I’m not expecting to capture this turn. Just going to soften up the defenses for next turn. Kill a pike with Pancho losing 2 hp. Kill another pike losing another 2 hp. Kill another pike with Ancient Glory losing 9 (!) hp.

Switch Edo from treb to settler. I plan on sending it across to settle on the northern Indian continent.

IBT – China asks for peace. Nah. Barb appears by Kagoshima.

780 (3) – Suo worker->worker. Khabarovsk galley->worker. Yokohama harbor->market. New Satsuma worker->worker.

True Battle for Karakorum: Pancho takes out the first pike without taking a hit. AG kills the second taking 1 hit. Use a 4/5 AC to kill a MDI. Now Genghis Khan is showing. Ancient Glory goes in for the kill, destroying all Genghis’s cities.

After exploring a little farther north, I find Genghis’s last city, Batshireet, defended by a reg spear.

IBT – Genghis moves a longbow and a spear towards us, and a spear and a settler south.

790 (4) – Tokyo samurai->samurai. Satsuma samurai->samurai. Nagoya samurai->samurai. Izumo settler->settler. Shimonoseki settler->settler. Hakodate settler->settler. New Kagoshima worker->worker.

Kill the units the Mongols sent out, including the settler. Also, the Mongols are in Anarchy, so we won’t have to worry about any new units from them.

800 (5) – Namp’o settler->settler. Destroy a barb camp by Kagoshima.

Found New Sapporo ->worker.

Battle for Batshireet: Pancho Villa attacks, is hit by a longbow, and loses 2 more hp. Tonto’s Blades attacks, but loses 4 hp (left with 2/13 hp). Elite AC attacks and wins without taking a hit. Ancient Glory attacks and loses 2 hp (now at 5/17 hp), revealing a Longbow. He attacks again and loses 2 hp. I’m guessing only Genghis is left since a worker is showing. All I have left is a 2/5 AC, so I’ll wait till next turn. Genghis is still in Anarchy, so we’ll still have just the King unit to deal with.

IBT – The people love us! New building is added to the east side of our palace.

810 (6) – Fukushima settler->settler. New Nagoya pike (barb had snuck up, so I rushed it)->wealth (what it was before). Sapporo samurai->samurai. Kozuke treb->harbor.

Found New Hakodate ->worker. Found New Ise ->worker. Destroyed barb camp in South.

Final Battle for Batshireet: Attack with Elite AC, lose 1 hp and destroy the Mongols. Only 2 civs left.
Advance towards Hangchow.

820 (7) – Ise MDI (whoops…)->samurai. New Osaka worker->worker. Destroy a barb camp between New Mastuyama and New Sapporo.

Move an AC towards Hangchow and see Indian units around it. Just an archer and a spear, though, so I doubt they’re close to capturing it.

Found New Toyama where it will get 2 whales ->library (to get the 2 whales). Found New Fukushima ->worker. Found New Suo ->treb.

Gunpowder due next turn. Sci @ 40%, +23 gpt, 1090 gold.

IBT – The Indian archer dies attacking Hangchow futilely, while the spear pillages a road. Gunpowder->Chemistry @ 0%, +158 gpt (stay at this for a few turns to regain some of the money lost from running the deficit).

830 (8) – Nagasaki samurai->samurai. Matsuyama samurai->samurai. You’ve got to be kidding me! In our territory, with all our roads, not ONE saltpeter is hooked up. We only have three on our entire landmass, from what I can see. Only one is in our territory (two after this turn—we have a settler ready to settle right on top of one!).

Found New Bizen (on saltpeter) ->worker. See Chinese galley over between the two Indian islands.

IBT – Chinese galley moves right by me. Indian spear moves to pillage another tile around Hangchow.

840 (9) – Osaka samurai->samurai. Echizen worker->worker. Nara samurai->worker. Edo settler->galley (we’ll need a lot of these when we invade India).

Attack on Hangchow: I won’t capture it this turn, but I’ll soften it up with a couple of ACs. First is an Elite* who wins with a loss of 1 hp, after being hit by an archer. A vet AC is next, and wins losing 2 hp.

Discover a barb camp with 3 horsemen and a warrior on a mountain.

IBT – Indian spear pillages another square around Hangchow. The people love us! A new roof for the left side building is added. Our galley with a spear heading over to India sinks. :(

850 (10) – New Edo worker->treb. Nagoya samurai->samurai.

Second Battle for Hangchow: Ancient Glory attacks first, is hit by the archer, and loses an additional point. The Elite* AC attacks and wins losing no hp. Next the 3/5 vet AC attacks, wins unhurt, and promotes. An archer is showing. Just that and Mao remain, I believe. However, I’ve run out of units to attack with, so the next person gets the honor of finishing off Mao.

Kill 3 of the 4 barbs in the camp, leaving a Horseman. Found New Echizen ->wealth (mainly because I don’t know what else to build).

For the next person: You have plenty (actually, maybe TOO many :D ) units to finish off Mao next turn. I rushed a settler in Erdenet so we can build a city where Hangchow was, build some galleys, and start ferrying across units. The armies won’t fit, however. I realize now that I should have left one unfilled so we could ship it across. Damnit! Oh well. We’ll have to make due with normal units…or wait until galleons…Gandhi is still using spears and archers, so he won’t pose a problem for our MDIs and Samurai…at least the cities on the northern island. We know his capital alone has like 10-20 units alone!
We should also start joining workers we don't need into cities. We have something like 54 workers.

Admiral Kutzov said:
@ IP - summary of where we stand in regard to VC at the end of your set?

I think VC means Victory Conditions? If so, our only option is Conquest according to the variant (unless we want to wait to build the spaceship... :mischief: ). We'll have to keep an eye on domination to make sure we don't go over, but for right now we're only at 40% land, 69% pop so no need to worry. No one else has any chance of winning, unless we were to accidentally get domination. We may want to stop expanding and focus solely on units. It is now the end of turn 200.

EDIT: Yes, there is a safe sea route from China to India. But like AEnigma said, it's FAR from our core. I say we either attack the northern cities now with the troops already there, or wait for galleons (we can then send our armies over, too).

Japan_850.JPG

We need to get to MT asap and build the MA. Then we can build empty armies and ship them to Gandhi land.
