Brian, the more the merrier
I have played through until AH, I totally agree with Brian in that the exploration of the east is a priority over the south. As we could just see a glimpse of coast to the north, I felt that going east, via the north was sensible. AH revealed some horses to the east.
Worker was produced, it is almost finished farming a FP (2 turns). It will go and pasture the cow next.
Our warrior survived the attack by a lion, and moved 1 square onto the forested hill to heal.
Delhi is 3 turns from growth, and 10 turns from completing the warrior.
Now, I would let Delhi finish the warrior before we produce our first settler. As a fogbuster and settler escort.
Optimally, we should try to time the warrior finishing with growth of Delhi to size 3. The reason for this is there is no point being 'half-way' to growing to the next size, as we obviously stop growing while we are building the settler. There is some arguement in the best way to achieve this, but it always depends on the available tiles.
IMO, I would grow to size 3 as fast as possible, working the FP/cow tiles. Once at size 3, I would make sure I maximise the hammers (the plains forest) in order to get the warrior out asap. Once the warrior is finished, again adjust Delhi's tiles to maximise the speed the settler is produced and the commerce.
The big limiting factor so far appears to be food. What few food tiles we can see (rice's) are not irrigated, so they are a bit weak. Also, as we are not creative, our secondary cities will not expand borders for quite some time.
So we will have to be careful where we place our next few cities, they need to have resources in the first ring to be effective. Here is my tentative suggestion for some city sites. We do not know enough of the east to place cities yet.
