@Fippy's done, I decided to give this one a shot. It's only my 5th deity game so far but let's see if we can keep this winstreak going.
Turn 74 GLH; a risky gamble but it paid off (had to reload to whip because some stupid AI beat me by 1 turn...cheap of me I know but I wasn't about to throw this game away just for this). Fogbusted entire island. One thing to note: I built the absolute minimum # of units. In such a tight economic situation unit upkeep for even 1 or 2 extras can really cripple you.
This is the only map EVER where I've seen mysticism as actually quite useful for a starting tech. Monuments from the go mean I don't have to wait til writing for a border pop. Sure, I could research it, but...normally, would you really have? With the lack of commerce and much more important things (hunting, AH, BW, fishing, IW) to go after?
I see stone and mids haven't gone yet...should I go for it? Seems absolutely crazy but failgold is good and so is happiness (especially with a paltry 2 luxes) so it's a win-win honestly. Also if I build that (and colossus too! assuming nobody oracle'd MC) I might be able to pull off a completely cottage-less economy. Riverside fin windmills are no laughing matter either.
Actually, assuming I get mids and/or colossus, new challenge: win without building
a single cottage.
Do you think I can do it?
Tech-wise: IW or writing? Gems are good but GS are even better, and I don't wanna pop a GM. Though...settling a GM might not be a bad idea.
