Good ones there trooperscooper. :goodjob:

But please note that (?) indicates some disagreement and that *_name_* indicates dubiousness in the extreme  :shake:

Village people are fun in a not-at-all-fun-way. And I agree, it is dubious.

I have no problems defending the rest of the lot. :smug:

Hint: ABBA is Swedish.
Hint: Don't think I wasn't aware of that matey-boy :mischief:

Thanks for the confession, but.....you're defending ABBA??? Now that's blind patriotism for you :vomit:
Hey, i like ABBA too. :p

I'm generally a rocker but there are certain decades that require kudos for thier sound and Ram, you got it man.

The Philly sounds of Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff! It was all about the slamming grooves, indestructible beats and real life sh....like "backstabbers"!

Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes, MFSB,Patti LaBelle,Teddy Pendergrass
The Delfonics, The Intruders, The O'Jays, The Spinners, The Stylistics and
The Three Degrees. The Spinners completely resurrected their Motown career under these guys.

Where did real stories like this go?

I meant that these are my favourite. All other (exclude Eddie Bo, Maceo Parker, which I haven't got, Charles Wright & Watts 103rd St. Rhythm Band, which is my uncle's cassette, but I still listen to it and Tina Turner, which I have on CD) are on compilation CDs.
BTW, I listen to Pink Floyd( I have all their albums)

Those guys are all awesome, in the soulful extreme. Picked up an MFSB record a few months back and was GLAD. Patti LeBelle is just such a honey.

And to answer your question:

(a) There's the whole Northern Soul movement in the UK, which is still buggin' out to the Motown vibe, and has been ever since the USA went funky (and away from soul). I went to a massive party of this ilk just a month back and it was complete with hand flips, back flips aaaaand talcum powder on the wooden dance floor, you know, fo' extra glide in yo' stride

(b) There is something of a new wave of funk these days. It's mainly coming out of NYC and is made up of folk like Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings, The New Mastersounds, The Mighty Imperials, The Whitefield Brothers, Ravi Harris And The Prophets, The Breakestra and so on. It's heavy duty funk in the old skool, rough and raw, analogue recording style and very much matches the quality of those folk I mentioned in the funk list above. Main labels to look for are Desco, Wah Wah 45s and Jazzman Records (see 'Fat City' & 'Etherbeat' in my sig for more). Heavy sheeeed :yup:

When was Stairway to Heaven and Baba O'Riley recorded?
Both in 1971.

But I do like most of the 70s. Especially:
Cream
King Crimson
Fleetwood Mac
Santana
The Who
 You make me so sad.

I made a playlist of my stuff from the 70's. I'll have to post it here sme time.

Also, what about the Reggae? Particularly Roots Reggae?

Bob Marley released his most famous, downright classic albums in this decade for starters. And this was when Peter Tosh broke off and released his solo material. Alpha Blondy, King Tubby, Lee Perry, Horace Andy, Jimmy Cliff and Burning Spear, to name but a few notables, were making some of their best records in the '70s too. This is also when the whole (Punk/) Ska movement sprang up in Britain, toward the end of this decade.

Then there's the hip-hop!

The earliest hip-hop was being made toward the end of the '70s by DJ Kool Herc and P&P Records in NYC, as well as Afrika Bambaataa & The Zulu Nation, along with Grandmaster Flash and The Furious Five.

OMG! I had no idea these two had gotten together! Thanks a million. That's priceless.

edit:

Check this one out for suprising collaborators and a 'vital spirit' from those '70s reggae boys:

Supertramp and nothing else.

 You better put your shoes on and get it on scratchy vinyl, mon.

Lest we forget Stiff record label Elvis Costello, Graham Parker and the Rumour, Dave Edmunds (one of my all time favorite album names "Subtle as a flying mallet") and Nick Lowe .

Anyone remember the opening theme for the CBS Sports Spectacular?
ELO's frightening instrumental "Fire on High"
Turn up the sound early and down as it develops....it take till about 2:30 before it really takes off.

I  ELO! Especialy Evil Woman!
