So, what jerbs do y'all think would be the best to have? You can use any criteria you want.

Typically, I think the best jobs would have:
*High salary
*Control over your work schedule
*Control of which projects you do
*Be some sort of team or project leader
*Must be 'fun' (however you personally define that)

However, there is one job that doesn't have most of these criteria, but surely is the best jerb EVAH.

Imagine, if you were:

How's that for a uniform?

God I'm so jealous of the guys who played Godzilla. It'd be so much damn fun to put on that costume and stomp around blowing up Tokyo and smashing other guys in costumes.

Tell me this isn't a totally awesome job:

The very best jobs are the ones that you would do whether anyone paid you or not.

Professional Musician has to be the highest I think, followed by perhaps Professional Athlete.

"rock stars" don't do a lot of "work" on a daily basis, get free travel, get paid high wages to do what most people would for free, and enjoy huge fringe benefits.

After training camp, a professional athlete "works" less than 4 hours a day outside of games, gets *huge* wages, lots of time off, and adoration.

Senator. Solid salary, benefits, healthcare, prospects of sexually available young interns, comfortable six year term and strong incumbency advantage, able to amass great wealth, more collegial than the House, bring home a little pork.

^ Addendum: And you don't have to be productive in any way.

Man, I think being a Senator would be horrible. You have to spend at least 4 hours of every day fundraising, you're subject to a ton of public scrutiny, the travel schedule is hectic, and the salary really isn't that high.

Stole my post.

If you have a job you love doing, you'll never work a day in your life.

Astronaut.

You missed out how much you like your coworkers as a factor - studies have shown that the amount you like your coworkers impacts how much you like your job far more than the actual work you do.

Yeah Astronaut would take the cake for me - it's the only job that I would place above Godzilla Suit Operator but I think it's easier to get the latter job - or was before CGI.
As to your second point the best job I had was at a resteraunt. The work sucked but I was in tight with my coworkers. All my other resteraunt jobs sucked hard; the work was the same but I hated my coworkers.

Being in the Godzilla suit (or any rubber monster suit) sucked. It limits your mobility and if you have to shoot a water scene, you might be holding your breath while confined for several minutes (see Creature from the Black Lagoon or whatever its called, the guy was holding his breath 5 minutes at a time if I remember the production notes correctly). There have been a few times when the Godzilla suit caught on fire and I imagine that is a terrifying experience.

Tenured professorship at an esteemed university is a fairly cushy job

Canadian Senator.

Lifetime appointment (well, until 75 anyway). Have to show up a minimum of once every 2 years. In addition to your 6 figure salary, you're given a housing allowance here in Ottawa and travel is covered.

Indie game developer. If you are successful enough you get plenty of money, and you are completely free from publishers telling you what to do.

That very much depends on the level of professional musician. A very small percentage of musicians are the type of stars that get to set their own schedule. Generally orchestra musicians work damned hard for not all that much money.

This might be mine. I've long thought that undergrads in pure engineering fields should be exposed to basic science policy, intellectual property, and legal issues around technology while at their undergrad institution, and as it turns out there aren't many classes like this available (at least not at my undergrad institution nor the dozen or so schools my grad buddies came from). I would love to teach a class like this, maybe offer it twice a semester, and pull in that delicious tenure money.

Crushin' 'em like Gojira. Imma stompin' yo' childhoodz. ;)

(This does come from a monster movie fan.)

personally I think sports broadcasting is an incredibly cushy job.

It's for people who like to talk, generally already like what they are broadcasting, like to talk without any statistics "well what the person/team needs to do after half time/the next inning/the next quarter/the next set is really dig deep and play better," and get to have statistics and things written for them "let's look at the replay. Oh that was good right there, see that? See how the film editing crew is re-emphasizing this play right there? Yeah that's a good play, good thing I the commentator picked up on it instead of have it provided to me"

You can also be ancient and flat out wrong about everything (see: Lou Holtz for American college football) and everybody still loves you.

You could be like Madden in the games. Team X needs to put points on the board! The offense really needs to score! Nah, really?

I saw a newspaper article about a job that involved being paid $45k plus expenses to travel to 25 countries and blog/vlog about it. That'd be a pretty damn good job.
