The Capo's LH Gallery and Self-Help Thread!

So in your conundrim, Lire, I would probably go with Mussolini simply because of his impact on history. I don't think putting certain leaders next to one another is insulting at all. You have to also understand that what we think of one leader may not be what others think of that leader, especially people who were contemporary of that leader. While we might look upon Genghis Khan as a great leader, or Alexander the Great the HORRORS they were responsible for are utterly disgusting and inhuman (let alone inhumane), so there are different ways to look at it.

There is still a difference between Hitler and, say, Genghis. Having Hitler as a leadr for Germany is insulting because he is not considered a great leader by the Germans, he is a leader that mostly brought shame on Germany (you have to agree that the damage Hitler made to Germany's reputation in th world is huge). Genghis Khan, on the other had, was also ruthless and killed lots of people, but lived in a totally different epoch, when countries would go to war just so they can humiliate their neighbours and conquer more lands, and didn't care much about commiting atrocities. That's why Genghis is considered a national hero in Mongolia. The question whether a certain leader should or should not be added depents on his nation's attitude towards him. I wouldn't put Mussolini as an Italian leader (in fact, I didn't put him in my mod) because he is not considered a national icon in Italy.
I also disagree that every civ should have leaders who represent all stages of their history. There is nothing wrong in omitting a certain era, especially the modern era (by "Modern" I mean post-Napoleonic).

Well, anyway, I just make LHs. I don't care if people want to use them or not.

Moving right along; I started on Lorenzo d'Medici, I know he wasn't "scheduled" but sometimes you just have to go with your gut. I am basing him on this bust/statue:

494px-Artista_fiorentino%2C_ritratto_di_Lorenzo_de%27_Medici%2C_terracotta_policroma%2C_probabilmente_da_un_modello_di_verrocchio_e_orsino_benintendi%2C_XV-XVI_sec_01.JPG

Right now I have his hat/head perfect (unfortunately they haven't fixed that image thing so you'll just have to take my word on it), I can easily make that little sash/cloth thing he has on (I am going to combine some parts from Pericles and Julius Caesar), but I can't figure out what to use for his clothing. I looked at everything and I can't seem to think of anything good. Right now I am thinking of using the Halis LH's shirt with the sleeves from Joao, but I don't know if that will look right consider Halis is a bit futuristic. Also, I'd like to integrate the folds into the LH, but again I am going to have to with what I have at my disposal. Halis is an LH from the Final Frontier mod by the way.

Any ideas?

I would use alexander's body for the clothing. You only need minor changes. Remove the shoulder part, add some vertices at the chest and retexture the metal into cloth.

This is the same reason of my doubts about Mussolini as a LH for my italian civilization. My goal was to have a leader for each important moment of italian history: Renaissance (Lorenzo), "Risorgimento" (italian re-unification - Cavour) and XX century; but having Mussolini next to Lorenzo is very offending for the italian culture and history; I thought to replace him; a good choice could be Alcide de Gasperi (leader of the Democratic Christian party in the 50's and first prime minister of the republic) but he is not well known outside Italy, and, again... no LH for him...

You're not the only one looking for a de Gasperi LH for your personal mod... ;)

EDIT: Woah, just found it on the new civs forum, that's way more than a personal mod... any way i could get those graphics for the UU and UB?

While I don't mind randomness in my thread, it'd be nice if you could request links or files through private messages or some other means rather than here.

Anyway, here are a couple of quick previews of what I am working on right now. On the left is Lorenzo d'Medici, on the right is some to-be-named Hittite leader. Lorenzo, obviously, is based on that bust posted above. The Hittite leader is based on the depiction of Mursilis from the documentary "The Hittites: A Civilization that Changed the World," which I watched on the Smithsonian channel the other day. Yes, that is why I decided to make him:

Let me know what you think so far, although keep in mind these are VERY early previews and the models themselves will probably change quite a bit before they are presented, I am currently in the process of working on their bodies (although I already have a pretty good idea as to what to do there). I'm not sure who is next, but after these guys I am working on Thomas Jefferson, Harun al-Rashid, Shah Abbas and Benazir Bhutto (with Bernie14 by the way). :goodjob:

EDIT: Since I think I am going to return to my old method of releasing four LHs at once, I might as well let you know the next two (unless Bernie says otherwise) that will be released with these guys will be Thomas Jefferson and Harun al-Rashid. Previews of them will be coming shortly.

Medici and al-Rashid soon, awesome.

Lorenzo looks very much spot-on so far, for the Hittite leader it'd be good to know what you use as a picture.

Thanks for the replies guys.

Lorenzo will look really good, the reason I decided to make him was that I didn't think there was a good LH out there for him.

As for the Hittite, well, I am not sure which Nitram LH you are speaking of but I assure you will it will be pretty unique and won't like anything like any LH. I can't find an image I am basing it on online, but I have the movie saved on my DVR so I can look at it whenever I need to, but here is the cover to the DVD/Movie so you can at least get a general idea of what these guys wore on their heads:

But it will look good. :goodjob:

Agree about Lorenzo. I was able to find decent leaderheads for almost every medieval European power, but Italy was difficult. Now there's this great Lorenzo LH which will turn Florence's LH from awful to awesome. So there's only Francesco Sforza left ;)

Looking forward to this Mursilis. Just what I need. :)

If you're looking for a name to label him (Mursilis and Suppiliuliuma being taken), I'd suggest Muwatallis. He defeated Ramesses at Qadesh.

Actually this is only 4-5 pages before, in the very same thread:

Muwatalli II is the Hittite leader who fought Ramesess the Great at the battle of Kadesh. At this time the Hittites were a very powerful empire.
Spoiler :

Muwatalli II (mNIR.GÁL) (also Muwatallis, or Muwatallish) was a king of the New kingdom of the Hittite empire (ca. 1295–1272 BC (short chronology)). The eldest surviving son of Mursili II, he is best known as the Hittite ruler who fought Ramesses II to a standstill at the Battle of Kadesh around 1274 BC. Aside from the battle with Egypt, he is best known for relocating the Hittite capital to Tarhuntassa[1] and appointing his brother Hattusili as governor in Hattusa.

A copy of a treaty has been recovered between him and Alaksandu, ruler of Wilusa (Troy), one of the Arzawa lands.

Egyptologists[citation needed] suspect that Muwattalli reached an informal peace treaty or understanding with Seti I over Kadesh to avoid a clash between the two superpowers over control of Syria. In it, Seti I effectively ceded Kadesh to the Hittite king in order to focus on domestic issues in Egypt.

Muwatalli had at least two children, both given Hurrian names in honor of the Hurrian storm god Teshup. One was Urhi-Teshup, who became king Mursili III until Hattusili III deposed him. Another was Ulmi-Teshup, who became the vassal ruler of Tarhuntassa.[2]

Muwatalli's namesake, Muwatalli I, was a pre-Empire king of the early 14th century, the predecessor of Tudhaliya I.

Muwatalli it is. :goodjob:

EDIT: But I think Capo wants to make him Mursillis (and Ekmek is the reason he hasn't decided yet), and I'm sure he will use this LH as him in his mod

If you're looking for a name to label him (Mursilis and Suppiliuliuma being taken), I'd suggest Muwatallis. He defeated Ramesses at Qadesh.

Given that Capo's mod has both Seti and Ramesses II, Muwtallis would be my suggestion as well.
