The Capo's Units Thread

Hi. :)

Civ3 player here, I stumbled across your set of Phoenician units while browsing the Downloads Database. As an admirer of the Phoenician civilization and of beautiful units, I thought I would pay my compliments.

Nice work! :goodjob:

Strangely enough there is a show about the Hittites tonight on History International, so maybe I can get some more ideas from that. Also I wanted to bump this and repeat my request to achilleszero for his current Hittite files so I can use them to help me make a full set of units.

Bravo The Capo :goodjob: I love many of these units

The future Hittite charioteer ( 1300 BC ) looks terrific !

Absolutely brilliant mate! One thing though... The flag on your Swedish units is actually the Danish flag (pre 1219). The black raven banner (like the one in my avatar) was called Dánibrokí (the cloth of the Danes) and was a black raven on white background - although light blue works too.

A better flag for the Swedes would be the three crowns of the Swedish coat of arms:

I know that, that isn't the Swedish flag you see there, but the flag I use for the Vikings. I just used that civ to present the Swedish units since it was the closest to Sweden I had available at the time. My Sweden module, which will be ready shortly after I release the next edition of my mod, has an appropriate flag.

Thanks for noticing though.

great stuff ~ i've finally found bluecoats to fight the redcoats :) lol. and now maybe i can design a gettysburg mod?? (with your permission) ~ that'll be an effort tho if it's true to detail.

:Wipes dust off thread:

AHEM!

After a long absence, I return not with a leaderhead but with units! Check out my...

AMERICAN MEDIEVAL UNITS

civ4screenshot0010_3C9.jpg

I wasn't sure where to put these units (in Renaissance or Medieval) but landed on Medieval because they would be used as Medieval units in most mods. This is a "what-if(ish)" set of American medieval units based on the clothing and armor of Renaissance/Early-Colonial era English to the Americas. Bakuel gave me suggestions on what to do, and I used a lot of his models so I have to give him credit too. Mechaerik made the Knight Officer, I just reskinned it.

I forgot to put the animations in so here they are...

Crossbowman (SpainishCrossbowman.nif) uses vanilla Crossbowman animations
Knight (Maryland) has two models, the Lancer (HeavyCavalry.nif) uses Charlemagne Heavy Cavalry animations. The Knight (Knight.nif) uses vanilla knight animations.
Both the other Knights (AmericanKnightWashington.nif) and (request.nif) use vanilla Knight animations.
The Longbowman (AmericanBowman.nif) uses Egyptian Archer animations.
All of the Macemen use Charlemagne Heavy Swordsman animations.
The Pikeman uses vanilla pikeman animations.

If there are any issues let me know. Thanks, and enjoy!

These really are great additions. The problem with the UNited States and other really "new" civilizations is how to really represent them in earlier eras where they didn't exist.

Its really the opposite problem to trying to represent ancient civilizations in a more modern setting.

Love the flag your using btw...

My mod features flags by era as well as flags by leader. So for instance American uses this flag as their medieval flag (I figured it looked more like a coat of arms, so I used it) and when you play as the Greeks, depending on your leader you may have different flags (Alexander gets a Makedonian flag, Cleomenes a Spartan flag, and Pericles an Athenian flag). So Hitler will use a Swastika in certain eras for Germany while Bismarck will not.

That is an ingenius idea. I wanted to do something similiar with the soundtrack, inspired by how the Rise from Erebus mod does things. So basically if you play as the Inca, you'd hear a different soundtrack than if you played as Rome(and it would be by era as well, so each culture would have its own specific soundtrack, for example a civ like the Aztecs would have native mesoamerican style music(think Cusco's various music) until the Renaiisance, where it would shift to a mix of Puruvian music and Flamenco)

Well, it applies to all other civs too. So the other civilizations' flags change as well. Just adds a bit more dynamism and fun to the mod. Keeps it interesting.

That does sound like fun actually.

How would you represent civs like America earlier than Medieval? I've been wanting to add Brazil to my own mod, maybe with natives from that area(Even though I also plan on a seperate Tupi civilization).

I don't mind the "what if" approach, those American Hoplites floating around are pretty cool.

Now we have:

Ancient: Zerver's ancient americans(I think it was Zerver)
Medieval: Your new American units :goodjob:
Renaiissance: Colonial Americas
etc

American hoplites eh? Where are they?

I also made Renaissance and Industrial Americans too buddy. ;)

As for the flag. I am using a "Native-American" stylized Eagle for their ancient and classical flag. For their units I use Native American looking units but with a red, white, and blue color-scheme. For their Renaissance-era I use the revolutionary-era 13 stars in a circle, then I use a field of stars for their Industrial and Modern eras.

I will have to check those out :)

As for the Hoplites Its been awile I forget sometimes whats been made and what hasn't Oo

But there were these: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=290444

The great thing about having versions is if you have more than the standard BTS unit classes you can mix them.

The best thing about that thread: you get to see The Capo back when he didn't even understand the basics of adding a unit via XML.

That was me afew months ago. I tried fooling around with the xml before, but I didn't get it, didn't have patience. Then I looked at the way modular files were structured and started to put two and two together(and read afew tutorials). After the past few months I can't believe I didn't get it sooner :crazyeye:

I love what-if units I think it really brings out the creativity of the artists here.
