This has got to be the funniest thing I have come across in a long , long time .

Guess which countries are the ones where the maximum number of searches for the word "sex" are carried out  ?

1. Pakistan

2. Egypt

3. Viet Nam

4. Iran

5. Morocco

6. Indonesia

7. India

8. Saudi Arabia

9. Turkey

10. Philippines

All hail the effectiveness of the Hijab ! The protector of women ! The chastiser of men !

Seems the Sunnis of Saudi Arabia were right - the Shias of Iran ARE more lecherous , eh ;) ?

Of course , this thread would be useless if this was all that I provided . But it's not . This is meant to spark a wider debate about how repression of human urges in Islamic societies may have something to do with the current problems we have right now . What is the cause of repression ? The effects are before us ( effects at which I can't help but smile ) . And how long before Islamic society becomes freer ?

Considering that only one of these countries has a population larger than that of the United States and none of them have nearly the internet access per capita that Americans enjoy, I find this information EXTREMELY hard to believe.

Those countries are actually the ones that have the highest ratio of 'sex' searches to 'non-sex' searches. I don't really think Islam is linked to this factoid, more likely its tied to who has internet access in those countries.

Where are you getting this information from?

Google trends. The stuff about how the lists are compiled can be asccessed by clickng on "normalised" at the top of the list.

Agreed. Note these countries' governments are authoritarian and the people who have internet access are bound to be mainly rich businessmen (who are usually foreign) and govt officials (who are usually not as religious as other people)

The more sexuality is percieved to be sinful, the more alluring it becomes.

better look for other words then sex
Iranian and other poeple of middle east have a poor knowadge of english language and if you look for words like lezbin or porn will found that other countries have the first position in rank

and if you say that also for word sex SA and Iran have the first rank, also this not related to Islam but the traditions of these countries provoke such situation
for example in iran every young man wanna to marry a young lady must have so much things and must spend so much money for celeberation
some time I wish we have tradition like western countries that every man and woman simply go to a church and marry
Islam says tradition of marrage must be simple and costless but poeple don't accept

PersianBoy - we come from very culturally rich , classical societies ( both of which have a common source , in the Aryan traditions ) . Our marriage rituals are bound to be complicated . For example - Vedic marriage rituals are very simple , whereas Classical Hindu rituals are very elaborate . The Sacred Fire is the witness of the marriage in Hinduism , in both traditions . The Vedic tradition requires very little money , whereas the classical traditions requires a lot .

For probably the best example of the classical tradition , look to the wedding of Lakshmi Mittal's daughter . That was the most expensive wedding in the history of manking , even including rulers and kings ! The whole of the Palace of Versailles was rented out for the event . The best entertainers of India - movie stars , singers , artists , and the like - were paid to perform there . Invitations were made of solid silver or gold ( I forget which ) . A lot of the city's best hotels were booked months in advance , for the benefit of the guests . Planes were chartered to bring the guests there . That was a spectacle that will probably not be repeated in this century .

As for this thread - it was supposed to poke gentle fun at the people who claim that repression works , and also to spark a debate about how to overcome the repressions our societies force upon us all . You see , India is also in that list .

As a person who has seen sexuality as both sinful and acceptable, I don't know if I can agree.

I think the allure of sex is most highly correlated with my hormones. Doesn't Iran have a youth population bomb going on right now?

9.Turkey

I am not surprised.:) :)

There are 10 million computers in Turkey. 99% of them have MSN. 95% of the MSN users use MSN to chat with the opposite sex.

Before we start drawing conclusions about anything it is wise to remember that the search for "porn" is highest in some UK city and Brisbane (Australia).

The obvious bias in these results is that only the middle and upper classes have the internet in Islamic countries (which are poorer). The middle and upper classes are also less 'religious'. So you tend to get an incorrect impression of the countries' 'religiousity' from these biased data.

There seems to be a correlation between these countries and the percentage of the population under 25.
