Out of interest: what is it that has suddenly started this new rash of 'World's Tallest' projects? The title hasn't gone to a significantly taller building since the Empire State was built, but now loads of buildings are suddenly in planning to demolish the old/current standards.
New elevator technology? (Not a joke)
@Brennan
It only seems like there's more supertall buildings on the way right now because we're looking at proposals and not just buildings whose designs have been finalized.
There's a big difference between planning to build one of these buildings and actually doing it. When push comes to shove budget concerns and cost efficiency almost always win.
Some of these buildings will never actually be built, and most of the rest will be significantly scaled back in size and/or grandeur by the time they're done.
You know what they say about these oddly shaped looking buildings?
It's an architects dream and a construction supervisors nightmare. No joke, people suffer mental breakdowns when they have to build all that stuff.
And I say that's a load of crock!We'll see!
Burj Dubai is already being built, as well as the World Financial Centre in Shanghai, and the Federation Tower in Moscow.. just off the top of my head.
I read skyscrapercity.com on a regular basis (almost as frequently as civfanatics) and it isn't just a case of these being proposals - I wouldn't be surprised if more than half of what was posted in this thread was eventually built. (Not including the death star)
How does one get up the two-mile-high tower? Surely you'll need an impractical number of lifts.
Nope, just warpustough, bets open to us all![]()
