The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion

Been playing the game for awhile, hate it when the enemies knock down my weapon that I have to switch to another one, and didn't found the lost weapon once the battle is finished.

The game is great in the first 10-20 hours, after that everything gets repetitive. Though the towns feels more alive than Morrowind, I tend to get the feeling than the world is always empty.

How many Oblivion gates are there ?

Is it Fixed ?
Or are there random and unlimited ?

So far I've closed 11, don't know the maximum amount of the gates.

It's fixed, and will open once complete a portion of the main quest.

I see some really nice Glass amour in a display case
behind an impossible "Very hard lock" any suggestions getting it opened ?

I given up after spending 100 lock picks on it.
Was hopping to get hold of an open very hard lock scroll. Or gain one more level to get to level 10 and try for the skeleton key.

Maybe you just have to be a little more patient with it. It will come, if you wait to find the pattern first, and find when the pick stays at the top for the longest time. Just wait for the one that goes up and down immediately, without stopping at all, and then the next one should be a long one, and you should be able to stop it. And, not to burst your bubble or anything, the armor is most probably a replica, and has no stats whatsoever.

An update, I'm Level 40 now and I've closed 17 gates, most of them rushed, too bad most of the Sigil Stones effect are rubbish(Fortify Fatigue\Absorb Fatigues, Fortify skills\Disintegrate Weapon).

So far I'm trying to collect artifacts, as in the artifacts in Tamriel Lore, and also books. It took me hours to rearranged the books I've collected in the shelves at my house in Skinrad. Will post the pics of my house when I have a chance ;).

Save prior to grabbing the Sigil Stone. If the stone isn't what you want, reload the save and try again.

Dammit cant fit my display amour in the damm display cases.
It looks like its in "rag doll mode".
Is there anyway to place items like swords without having the gravity active. I'd like to place swords in a display row / weapon rack style. But they keep falling down.

I placed a myterial shield above the fire place (It looks very nice)
(I dont intend to buy pictures)

I don't know how to do that unfortunately. There is a mod called Reznod's Mannequins which allows you to showcase your armor, weapon, and shield on a mannequin in your house. It'd also be nice if they had weapons racks in the game that can be bought. The fighters guilds have weapons rack and the weapons seem to stay on those properly.

I've closed 19 gates, should have one more to go. After that I'll finish the main quest once and for all.

Next I'll keep on look out for some mods, in the hope that it'll keep me interested in the game like I was in Morrowind, which I never finish.

I'll propably go back playing FM06 after all is done.

As I'm playing with my old GeForce 4200 Ti, the graphics are good, but not as good as they could be. So I think I'll rediscover the game next year if I can upgrade my PC.
Like if you get two games for the price of one. :D

I just closed the gate at Kvatch and OMG was it hard
Those little "clanfears" literally ripped me apart big time. I have no problems taking down everything else at my level inc necros, dereas and astronchs. But those little runts can kill me very easily.

hmmm could be the lack of uh lower body armour. Currently have mythiril set for upper body, + helmet and gaunlets but naked on down.

Light armor just don't provide enough protection...

My first character is the default Knight. With heavy armor and a shield with 12% reflect damage (block and heavy armor at 100), she can just block and let three Imperial watches kill themselves (I failed a sneak check during some quests). She can take hits very well.

Now my second character goes for light armor... while she managed to become arena champion, she has trouble with a mountain lion when she was level 8. 3 pounces from the lion and I need to heal or I'll die. Now she faces trolls, black bears and ogres... if there's more than 1, I'll need to summon and run, or I'll be drinking a lot of healing potions.

I guess light armor is for quicker movement... and you avoid getting hit... and if you do get hit, they won't kill you in one shot.

I'm now level 20, and started the game with no armor at all, and then I wore light armor (so I can carry more loot to sell).
At the beginning it was hard, but with a good blade skill and a quick sword (I'm using a Elven shortsword as primary weapon), I can usually just hit and run most of my foes.

No. Do you have light armor 100? And If you do do you wear all light armor?

I think its mainly the reflect 12% that helped you.

I have 65 or so in light armor, and yes, full mithril.

I'm not just comparing the first character's end stage... it wouldn't be fair would it. I'm comparing the feeling throughout the first 10 levels (Heavy armor character is level 27, light armor is now level 11).

The heavy armor character can stay in the heat of the battle, while the light armor character must maneuver a lot.

Note - I'm not complaining. Just stating the fact that the protection provided by light armor is less than heavy armor. That's realistic.

I'll just have to practice the new style more...
