The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion

Yeah, alchemy is your bread and butter.

Join the mages guild then you can grab a set of novice alchemy set for free. Then go to the inns and bars... buy all the 2-septim food items and make all of them into fatigue potions. Then sell them to a vendor that likes you (haggle for better price).

I've played two characters and alchemy is always the first skill to reach master rank.

Or just level up to 15-20 and the bandits drop the highest quality loot that sells for maximum price.

Potion making is the best money making venture early on in the game. As stated, once you get to the higher levels, the loot from caves/mines/etc will be worth alot of money. You'll eventually end up with more money than items to buy. My first character owned every house and had over 300k in gold before I stopped playing him due to the animations bug. Join the mages guild if you plan to go the alchemical money making route, that way you'll have all 4 alchemical equipment without having to buy/find them. Also join the Fighters Guild, so you'll have 2 locations per city to loot ingredients from. In the early parts of the game when weight is everything, also avoid items that have bad value to weight ratios. That cloth item may look decent when you have little in the way of gold, but for 4 gold and 4 weight, it adds up to a 1:1 ratio which renders it useless and a waste of time, effort, and storage space for your character. Always try to get the maximum weight to value items in the early stages of the game. It'll save you alot of trips and will help to make money quicker. Besides alchemical ingredients, the ratios in the early part of the game should be around 5:1. Later on in the game when mithril starts being dropped by the bandits, you can up it to a 10:1 ratio.

I got my money from just stealing stuff and selling to a front. My thief/assassin has over 700k gold. :D

Im thinking about getting oblivion but i dunno if my laptop can manage to run it. I have heard its high demanding but i think i meet the minimum requirements. Hope someone with the same specs of just know, can tell me if i can run it without much preformance issues. I would probarbly have to run it on minimal graphic setting but thats ok.

My specs:

System Model: Inspiron 6000
BIOS: Phoenix ROM BIOS PLUS Version 1.10 A08
Processor: Intel(R) Pentium(R) M processor 1.86GHz
Memory: 2048MB RAM
video Card: ATI MOBILITY RADEON X300

Im worried about my videocard and processor....

I've noticed that some items respawn, Such as Food items
Which looks strange sitting in mid air (I had cleared the tables of items to reduce gfx load)

Do items like swords, amour and shops respawn / restcck after a given set of time ?

They do, but I don't know how often. Anyone know?

I think the respawn time for everything that's respawnable is 3 in-game days. IIRC, you can set the respawn time in the INI file.

Here's a funny scene after I murdered someone... he was sleeping on his bed, my sneak attack almost killed him in one shot, but he awoke. So I quickly finish killing him... and he fell into that gap in the floor.

From the top floor...

From ground floor...

Perfect assassination! They'd think he hanged himself!

Quick tip for money: BOOKS!!!! They are the single greatest way to get money early in the game. There are some books that are worth 50-75 Gold, and weigh only 1-3 pounds.
And, does anyone else have the problem of not being able to complete the "Mystery at Harlun's Watch" quest for the fighter's guild? I've found out that there is a bug in the programming, but even after replacing the game, I still have the problem of not being able to find a body there in order to complete the quest. By the way, I have the Xbox 360 version of the game.

Though when you're low level, you probably don't have enough merchantile to sell them at good prices. The NPCs' max disposition (which allows you to barter for a better price) are also limited by your race and speechcraft skill.

It is the one with people disappearing, and strange light? You don't need to find a body to complete the quest.

IIRC there's a bug report about that one.

People said if you cleared the cave before getting the quest, when you do it later, no bodies will be spawned.

Hmm, it is mentioned in the beta patch fix list too.
In Mystery and Harlun's Watch, the dead body you are supposed to find will no longer disappear from Swampy Cave if you cleared out the dungeon before starting the quest.

So it's not the bodies not being spawned... rather it's the bodies disappeared. Very much like the Cheydinhal mage guild recommendation quest.

The sword you get from that quest is really good.
Spoiler :
Except it's not as good as Goldbrand.

Finished the main quest... woah. What an ending. I'm now level 26.

@ Ultima Dragoon:
Spoiler :
Yup, the Ebony blade is rather nice. Too heavy for me though... I just keep 2 weapon, one melee one ranged, both enchanted with extra damage and 1 sec soultrap. I'm playing a light armor stealth/magic, so I don't have a lot of carrying capacity when I need to use my stronger equipment.

I haven't found all the daedric shrines yet (trouble hunting down the NPCs with the topic)... so I not only haven't seen Goldbrand, I haven't got Umbra either!

I might be able to progress on the main quest soon. Play.com has Xbox 360 hard drives in stock. All I need now is the money.

A few days ago I got Morrowind GOTY for PC (Oblivion probably won't run on my PC). At least I'll be able to progress.

I dont know if anybody can answer this but I'm thinking about purchasing this game on Direct to Drive, a site where you can download games right now if you want. I did it for civ and works just fine. However my graphics, card is an Nvidia 5500FX and the specs to run the game requies at least a 5700. My questions are as follows.
Is the 'Oldblivion' patch compatable with the D2D version? And does it actually work properlyfor any version?

Iam pretty sure with your FX5500 you should be able to TWEAK the ini files manuelly. To greatly reduce the graphic card load.
you can remove ALL the bumpmapping (such as in the oldbivion patch) and disable the muti-light sourceing.
