The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion

CT: Rain is pretty much all I see in my games

Where did you find the artist?

Imperial City Lighthouse (end of the docks)

Just a quick question, is someone can get around this then woot.

What the bloomin' 'eck is the point of having a windowed mode for Oblivion if you can't go outside the window!?

hehe... good to see you guys are having fun! :)

CT, Chillrend and Witlsplinter are both special leveled items. If you install the Quest Award Leveling mod, they will level with you too. This mod is a must have, IMO.

Another essential mod is the BTmod interface mod.

The leveled creature and items mod is also pretty nice.

It's the Anvil Lighthouse, actually.

CTRL-Tab doesn't crash Oblivion. :) (I think I should call it a night...)

EDIT: I'm downloading the construction set. I wanna make a mod to put a town in a picturesque spot - maybe with a really large mansion or something - larger than the normal sized cathedrals/castles. Then I'll construct a cathedral that you can see from all corners of the map! :D (well, maybe not... but we'll see)

Ctrl-Tab doesn't seem to work for me. Just opens up the inventory. Most frustrating.

Good luck with the construction. It better rival the Imperial City Tower :p

You'd have to hotkey the menu to something other than TAB in that case.
And isn't it ALT-TAB? ;)

Oblivion is good stuff. Unfortunately, it doesn't run on my computer. =/ I've played it a bit on my brother's system though... Sneaking + Archery is just so satisfying it should be its own game.

"Avelon, try Thief."
"Shush, you."

That's what I meant. Hey! It was 3:30 in the morning when I typed that. :p

Anyway, I tried my hand at making a mod - a very simple one (at an inn). Just a few stacked plates, a fork, Sigil Stone, and another crystal thingie in the bowls. I also put an Ebony Blade on the shelf. I was trying to knock off the plates using my claymore, but I guess it was a bit too long, and hit the innkeeper, who in turn grabbed the Ebony Blade and proceeded to thwack me with it.

Here's a screenshot of the "mod". (I had a torch since windowed mode makes things darker)

I got the first two (deleted the arrow mapping feature - I don't like mapping arrowkeys, especially when I use them to move around). The last link, though, the link to the file seems broken...

EDIT: n/m, the link came up this time..

The arrow mapping is active only in inventory and barter screens. Useful when the "how much?" or "You sure?" dialog pop up and you don't want to move your mouse.

Nice - now to steal the ebony blade. ;)
Your Ctrl-Tab is excusable, but it was reciprocated by Kan! Shameful! ;D

Loosely related to being thwacked with an ebony blade: Not being thwacked with an ebony blade. I really like the blocking system in Oblivion. (I just like how they did combat in general, even if it does suck on a laggy PC)
You can actually have some pretty epic duels with NPCs - here's a short story... It pertains to a Thieves' Guild quest, so I'll put it in spoiler tags... If you're in the Guild, you probably already know this quest - it has to do with a statue. ;)

After writing it... It's actually not really short. =P This is from memory and several months ago, so I may have misremembered building placement or something stupid.

Spoiler :
This is one of those moments in games where you see an opportunity, but you just know that if you follow through with it, you'll screw up your game. In times like these, the purist will simply continue on, never knowing the feeling of being a part of an epic scene. The less ethical of us make free use of the 'Save' and 'Load' functions. ;)

After recovering the bust, as you know there will be Imperial guards swarming the Waterfront District. The local commander himself is there - and he's just begging to get whacked. Like any good thief, I immediately saw an opportunity to make a fool of the man by robbing him while he was on a thief hunt. So I did. But that isn't the story.

The story is what came after the robbery. I saw my arch-nemesis standing right before my very eyes, and like any good Azura-worshipping Dark Elf I thought, "I wonder if he's immune to fire?" It turns out that he is not, in fact, immune to fire. After slinging a fireball at him, I knew that I was in trouble. Not that I really gave a damn or anything like that. I drew steel and was immediately set upon by His Imperial Charredness and his loyal retainers - 4 Imperial guardsmen.

Now, I'm pretty thick-headed (I threw a FIREBALL at the COMMANDER of the IMPERIAL GUARD), but I'm not *quite* dumb enough to take on that many heavily armoured swordsmen at once - at least, not with rough leather armour and a dagger. So I ran like a little girl. At the Garden of Dareleth (sp?), I hopped up on the wall and turned around, only to see the guards were not far behind me. I got off two Greater Fireballs before they got close enough to attack me, and then I hopped up on the roof.

Now, I wasn't expecting these heavily-armoured troops to be able to climb up there, and none of them were carrying bows - so I was safe. I drew my own bow and started firing into their ranks. One of them fled. But wait - where was that chunderhead of a le-OW!

I was knocked off of the roof by His Imperial Charredness himself! But being quick of reflex, and a true elf, I managed to put an arrow in the face of an Imperial guardsman before I was assaulted again. Blocking with my bow as I retreated, I got back on the wall, and hopped onto another rooftop. I was still puzzling at how the man had gotten up on the roof when - for the first time EVER - I saw a man jump. They say that white men can't jump, and I had never seen fit to question that until that night. The man hopped from the roof he had climbed up to onto the one I was on.

I shouldered my bow and drew my dagger, hurling another fireball at my foe as he dashed toward me - this time I missed, as he leapt to one side. Then he was upon me, sword coming down at my head.

I raised my dagger and caught the brunt of the blow on it, but the tip glanced across my face. Unfazed by this, I quickly countered while he was off-guard, slashing his undearm, where his armour separated, then his face.

I went back on the defensive and moved away from the edge of the roof. Below me, the guards were shouting idiotic demands like 'Give up!'. I was somewhat fatigued and pretty hurt, but I knew that my opponent just couldn't match me on the uneven footing.

He came at me from every angle, thrusting, slashing, and even attempting a whirling attack or two. I dodged, blocked, and countered, scoring five hits for his every one. But I was fast running out of energy.

Just as the sun began to rise, I put my back to the east and kept myself between him and the light. Since he could hardly see me, it was easy to duck a blow and use the time he spent recovering to quickly quaff a potion of healing I'd "acquired" some time before. With returning strength, I renewed my assault, and for a long while it was he who defended.

He lost ground gradually, and I gave him none. I turned his back to a corner of the roof and backed him into it. I knew that he would not last long, as his attacks were poorly timed and his defense was sluggish. I could tell by his eyes that it was now for desperation he fought, and only pride kept him from fleeing a no-name dagger-wielding Dark Elf.

I sheathed my dagger, dodged his next strike, and unshouldered my bow. In the same motion, I drew and nocked an arrow, and just as he recovered for his next attack, I shot him point-blank in the neck. He was limp as he fell from the roof into the ranks of his guardsmen.

The sun was approaching its apex by this time. I was weary, and did not feel like slaughtering more guardsmen, so I leapt from the opposite side of the roof and shouldered my bow, dove into the sea, and swam to the southeastern bank of the mainland, where I followed the coast to a river and let the current carry me to a remote city.

 I'm stuck for good between two rocks and a tree in the FrostFire Valley area! To the editor! I noticed a few locations where you could get stuck - I'll probably make a mod for it.

#1 thing I hate in Oblivion - The saves are too ambiguous! (Save1, Save2, Save3, etc.) I just accidently overwrote my main save when I didn't want to!

Atleast I have a save from 2 days ago... before Kvatch, and other stuff... :(

If you use console you can save with name.

- Make yours a custom class.
- Choose 3 magic schools as major skills.
- Choose Blade/Blunt (whichever you prefer).
- Choose Athletics and/or Acrobatics (preferably athletics; it's harder to train).
- Choose two stealth skills if you want a balanced character, or just whatever if not. Armorer is always good to have, and for a combat player, easy to advance. An armour skill is great to have - I recommend Light Armour.
- Make your specialisation 'Combat' - it's the hardest skill set to advance because you can't just hold down a button overnight or something.
- Favoured attributes... I recommend Luck and either Endurance (HP + Armour skills) or Willpower (Lower spell point costs for Destruction, Restoration, and I think Mysticism? Also better magicka regeneration AND spell resistance).
- Star sign...possibly the Thief, if only for the luck. Luck is everything. It surrounds us and makes our lewt better. Could also go with one of the three magicka signs (Mage, Apprentice, Atronach).

Voila. Battlemage.

Hey thanks man that helps alot! :D

PMing this to myself so I have it in a week when i get the game.

Dont take the Thief Sign. Instead take the Mage. Magicka is everything.

I don't know...depends on how hardcore of a mage you want to be. In Morrowind and Oblivion, I play either a Thief-Mage or Mage-Thief, mainly, with Long Blade (MW) instead of Short Blade, or just a sword instead of a dagger in Oblivion.
If I emphasize magic, I trend toward the Atronach. Unless you get some messed up mods (zOMG FROST QUEEN DEATH MAGIC), most spellcasters aren't life-threatening when their spells hit only 50% of the time. Really gives you an edge in those magic duels, especially if you stack magic absorb/reflect/dispel enchantments on top.
The Thief gets you extra luck, which is good for any kind of character - fewer 'shears' and more 'glass longsword'. ;) Agility is good for Light Armour (if I recall correctly) and Marksmanship, if you wanted to integrate those.

Thoughts?

Next time you're doing the tutorial, make a named save just before you activate the last sewer gate:

Press ~ for the console.
Type save "xxx" where xxx is any name you want.
Press Enter.

Backup that save. By default it will be in C:\Documents and Settings\kcwong\My Documents\My Games\Oblivion\Saves with the name you used as filename.

When you want to restart, load that save. Activating the last sewer gate will prompt a dialog asking you if your choices are okay. In that dialog you can change *everything*. From race, appearance, class, skills, sign. Everything. Then you will never have to go through the tutorial again.

I still haven't gotten the game, I really need to pick it up soon so I can get a bit of time in while I've got free time.
