How do you (as in where your from not necessarily what is 'correct' since that is subjective)

pronounce swaths?

Ibuprofen

Gass street.

There is a street called Gass st. here in Vegas, when I live on it in the pre internet era it was hell giving directions because everyone had a different idea of how it was pronounced.

I've heard.

Gas
Gase
Gause
Ghos
Ghase
Gooss
:crazyeye:
And everyone is always absolutely sure they are saying it the proper way.

The first, I don't know how to explain in writing.

Ibuprofen: I - boo - pro - fin

The last, I would pronounce it as gas, as in gasoline. But I would guess that it is named after a person, so for the correct pronunciation, you may need to find where it comes from.

I-byew-pro-fin

Ibuprofen is /ˈaɪ.bu.proʊ.fn̩ /

Ibuprofen is /ˈaɪ.bu.proʊ.fn̩ /

I learned what each of those letters mean in detail not one year ago and I've already forgotten :cringe:

Fun fact - In the 70s for two years after the U.S. dropped the gold standard your Tunisian money was insured in Ibuprofen.

Pretty much how they are all written, except for the 'byu' in ibuprofen. But I've never heard a doctor or nurse pronounce it any other way.

That's all speculative brah.

Personally - I say Ivy - Pro - Fin.

The others *shrug*

P.S. how about some new words guys?

meme?

I want to say meeeeeeeeem.

ibuprofen |ˌībyoōˈprōfən|

That's how I say it.

I'd say "Gass" street, like in the British "mass".

It rhymes with "moths." :)

L.A. has an interesting street. Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills is pronounced Ro-DAY-o, but once it enters L.A. it's pronounced RO-de-o.

I want to say meeeeeeeeem.

While I also pronounce it as one syllable, with a long 'e', [wiki]Bakemonogatari[/wiki] renders it me-me, with the 'e' pronounced as in 'exactly'.

Privacy and vitamin with long i or with short i?

I don't know what long or short I means, but it sounds exactly like the words "pry" or "sky."

I have known some old people who say vitamin the other way, though. They are few and far between.

Long i. No exceptions.

I pronounce it with the shot i "british style" just to get odd looks from people.

I have a handful of words I do that with in English/Spanish/Portuguese.

Obviously- Spain Spanish and Portugal Portugese for the last two ;)

IPA required for this thread, otherwise it is utterly, utterly pointless.
