I'm still amazed that there was a whole ridiculous circus and an impeachment trial for Clinton having an extramarital affair, but Trump being involved in raping underaged sex slaves has been happily ignored for now.
I'm somewhat hopeful that it will bring such a baggage, Trump will FINALLY lose its blind support and end up on the receiving end of something actually meaningful, but even then it's still far too little and mainly far too late. Half of the Congressmen deserve to be hanged for treason here.

There is that, but technically it was for lying not the actual cigar thing.

The comparison I think is really telling is Jimmy Carter's dad's Peanut Farm. He may not have actually given it up, but he transferred to a trust and sold it later. Compare that to Trump and it is just a joke.

I've been trying to play this whole thing forward in my head. It feels as though there are two choices: not actually release anything (the whole file is needed for our ongoing investigation) or release some portions but with Trump's name blacked out of those portions.

But they have to be pretty anxious about that second option, because of the recent release from the Epstein estate itself. So, say they release some pages that have Trump's name on them, but with it blacked out. Then the Epstein estate releases that same document but with Trump's name appearing. Now it's evident that they redacted so as to protect Trump.

Ok, so the best move is just to claim "the files are all so interinvolved, that, given our ongoing investigation, we can't release any of them, lest the one we release turn out to later be connected to the investigation and we spoil that investigation by having released that document." But then it looks like a cover-up and a failure to comply with the bill, that Trump himself signed.

So I think this is not just all swept under the rug quite yet. I think things are going to remain interesting for a while.

myea, a take that's floating around online is that there is no way this will look good for trump. black bars or not. this is already a huge loss, and there's seeded so much doubt about his degree of control over the release that it's kind of impossible to save face. i'm not sure it makes much sense, but naturally i hope for it to be the case. this whole thing is such a black mark on trump, esp since pedo deep state fantasies were trouted for what's going on for 20 years? among the right. the whole machinery is scrambling.

and on clinton being impeached and trump being allowed... whatever this is, among other things - it actually showcases a core political weakness the democrats have. the democrats have the process as a core tenet. they view it as a moral machine; that if you maintain it properly, good will come out. republicans see it as a tool with no innate moral value. it's pure incidental utility. this is why democrats are vulnerable when they break with decorum while republicans generally aren't. republicans can call out democrats for breaking decorum, and democrats will lose points on it, because the base cares; but it's not actually something we see in reverse, because the base doesn't. by decorum, that naturally extends quite far into any sort of political process. a core tenet of the democrats is to manage and respect the political process. the republicans don't really care, but rather deal with it as long as it's useful.

i expect someone to come and whatabout or challenge me on that, but i can just point at trump's support and leave, so there.

the same Democrats who watched ISIL rise , the process respecting the first Black President of the US who got a Nobel because his name wasn't Bush and was willing to let ISIL exist for 30 years to justify a new nation state thing . And the Iranians rolled back the best of the Sunni in about two years while under bombardment by Israel and handicapped at every possible way by America . They are as vile and repugnant as the Republicans when dealing with foreigners to the US and cover it up dealing with Americans or select other nationalities ; you would think they were nice ! Every Trump win is greatly aided by Democrats as it is the way or something . Whataboutism , spam , whatever . Nothing damaging to Trump in the eyes of his supporters , nothing achieved in the interests of his detractors . Those who believe in laws , justice , the right thing to do ... Stay strong , it will be nausating .
