oh yeah they aren't using sliced bread so it doesn't count at all

imaginary lines cause imaginary problems

Never figured you for a sliced bread bigot. Bread that is useful without slicing is inherently superior bread anyway.

OK I have a new proposal,

sad witches include all of these items

but there's a subsection which can be called sandwiches, and there's a subsection which can't

you and I both know a taco is the same thing as a sandwich but it's still a taco and not a sandwich, I'm sorry I don't make the rules

But you are making a rule.

I'm a man, and a human, and a bank robber, and a sailor, and a retired guy, and a son, father, ex-husband, and boyfriend. There's an endless spread of sets and subsets and overlaps and I can be all of them, with which one I am referred to as at the moment being a question of context. When my sister refers to me as her brother no one says "oh he can't be a brother because he is a father," or assumes that being a brother makes me any less a human being. Why should a particularly good version of a sandwich not be called a sandwich, in the context of a thread about sandwiches, just because it is also recognized as a taco?

You are making a rule that a taco can only get recognized as a taco and has no access to other recognition that clearly it deserves. That you even acknowledged that it deserves. You are discriminating against the noble taco.

Keep wishin' and hopin', but the poll is correct. Tortillas are not sandwich material.

@yung.carl.jung
This post reeks of sandwich eurocentrist-exclusivism, I will start a twitter-zoomio campaign to shed light onto this!!
Nice try. I see you and @Timsup2nothin are into the appropriation of ethnic Mexican culture for the aggrandizement of a uniform global culture that diminishes the value of indigenous peoples and their remarkable and unique contributions.

A beret is distinctively French, and I personally consider them very cool, but a beret is nonetheless a hat.

Let's discuss the glory of sandwiches instead with some more sandwich suggestions.

I love to add meats to my grilled cheese. A nice slice of salami or pepperoni is my favorite. Bacon of course is good too, but it adds a lot of extra time to have to cook bacon just to make a sandwich. If you have some leftover that's ideal. But the sausage meats give a little more zest anyway.

Question: Do you like to butter the bread or melt butter in the pan and place bread on top? I've done both ways, usually because my butter comes out of the fridge and is too cold to spread so I drop it into the pan then mop the bread around in it before letting it settle to grill. And actually I've seen a lot of restaurants do it this way where they squirt some clarified butter onto a griddle and mop the bread in it.

Oh, let's talk about the innards too ! Do You guys consider banana with ketchup a sacrilege ? I also like white cheese with ketchup or with honey if I want to go with something sweet =)

I'vve never tried the melting method but am willing to give it a try. If You've done it both ways, which one in Your opinion is better ?

As long as you move your bread around in the pan so it gets coated evenly their pretty equal. The only difficult part might be when you flip it, since you didn't butter the other side. You can either hold the sandwich on your spatula and toss a little more butter into the pan, or if your pan is really big you grill the sandwich open faced, then put it together before the end.

I regularly dip my grilled cheese in ketchup but I have never added it into the sandwich itself. I don't like bananas much though. Honey with cheese sounds funky.

Twa's helpful thanks ! I'll try it the next time :)

I'm still kinda amazed that there are more votes for A "half-sandwich" with a single piece of folded bread than for Sub

I honestly think that anyone who voted for anything and didn't vote for both of those was just being intentionally contrary. There are five people who participated and did NOT vote for sub. What did they vote for?

if a tortilla is a flatbread, which you agreed on, and flatbread is a type of bread, which is true by definition, then why is a quesadilla not a sandwich? I see you tried to dodge me, but I'm a bloodhound :nya:

I butter the pan, it makes more sense imo. like putting caramelized onions on my grilled cheese (20 mins minimum), sometimes homemade jalapenos. most of the time I'm a purist tho. I get the best results usind a melty sliced cheese, like a cheddar, and then tons of grated cheese, I like anything that's salty and aged. edamer and parmesan are good, but I like cheddar and pecorino best probably.

you mean on a grilled cheese or in general? if you like bananas with ketchups.. go for it. really not my thing, tho I like filipino banana ketchup, that stuff is dope.

Valka voted for burger not sub. Igloo voted for open faced not sub. You can work it out by looking at who voted for what.

then just take the opposite view

my sandwich-related arguments stand on their own, independant of popular appeal and point of view. it's all semantics anyway.

Caramelized onions are great on anything, or just plain with a spoon! But again they take a while to make and when I'm going for a sandwich I'm going for quick and easy. So I'd have to make ahead. You can and store in the fridge and reheat for a few seconds in the microwave as needed.
