The future of Fall from Heaven

Thanks guys! I had a great opportunity to go onsite at Stardock and sit and talk about games with Brad and the Elemental team. We had a great time and I'm very excited to be working with them.
Congratulations Kael! :goodjob:

...Or, CEO Brad Wardell could stick to just design and AI without bothering with all the little details that come with running a multi-million dollar software and publishing company, and building a brand new gaming engine from scratch, and creating a viable alternative to steamworks, and keeping an active public role in the fan community, and... ;~p Brads got development and design skills. He envisioned and began the creation of something grand. Now he adds yet another talented visionary to his team. It's all good.

Hah. Okay. Obviously you have a vastly different impression of the game; Nothing wrong with that. In my view, however, the vast majority of the mechanics used in Elemental are outdated, cloned directly from existing Stardock games with little or no originality, and on top of that are mostly just crap. Maybe some good ideas, but when the idea is good and the mechanic is bad... It's still just a bad mechanic.

On top of that, Wardell's 'involvement' in the community appears to be simply sucking in all the praise of the fanboys, and decrying any who point out flaws or issues as trolls... Real great involvement there. :goodjob:

As I said, if Kael is in charge, the game will be good, given enough time. Kael is a very good designer, and knows when to let features drop. Wardell, from everything I have seen... Is not. So like I said: We'll see.

Nonetheless, congratulations Kael. Don't let my negativity about the game make it look like I'm not happy for you. ;)

Sounds like you are describing CiV to a "T". Patches "could" change things though.

They don't work in civ4?

Sure they do. They do not, however, work in Elemental. Or at least, not very well.

My point was that if you dislike something in CiV, before long there will be a mod to change it. In Elemental... Well, you don't have the guarantee at this point.

Congratulations Kael! Good luck and godspeed at Stardock!

As far as Elemental goes.. Well, if they put you on it, I assume it will be "fixed" eventually. If you get the chance to develop a FFH3 at Stardock, I'm sure there's not one here who won't be in line to buy it.

As far as other things one could say about Elemental and Wardell, well.. He's your boss so, I'll keep my mouth shut.

Good luck and congratulations on landing what could be a Dream Job for you! You deserve it!

I updated the first post with some timelines. What a crazy journey. :D

 This is amazing news. I had lost hope in Elemental, but I'm sure you'll do a great job with it Kael. Congratulations on your new position! :goodjob:

congratulations.

i suppose you could let the goons at stardock programm their engine according to your needs - not the other way around.
and don't let anyone know that your new FFH is in any way related to Elemental.
:)

Wow! I had just seen another (very short) thread which happened to mention that the standalone was cancelled, I hadn't been following the forums very well lately. AMAZING to hear that after the fall (of Fall... heh heh) things took such a turn.

Enjoy the new job you Wascally Wabbit.

From the discussions I don't have much interest in Elemental but with Kael in the picture, it could catch my eye.
I wonder what affect this will have on his outside projects, such as FfH3 on CiV? Surely his new employer won't wish to share such talent?

From an interested bystander who has been watching this with interest - I suspect FFH wont make it to CiV, but Eden will (fantasy a lot of the same team but new lore and therefore a clean slate). FFH may not make it to Elemental either at least for a while (Kael will have his hands full with Vanilla). But my hunch is there may be an official FFH expansion pack to Elemental or who knows a stand alone FFH based on the original design document via Stardock at some point in the future.
