The Future of NESing

EQ I am sorry but that second thread idea would not work for the invitational nes as then when someone did work something out there would always be cries of someone cheating.

Oh yes, one more note: I am seriously opposed to only private NESes, there should always be free for all open NESes. However, I believe that a private invitational NES may be a good expiriment.

Ok, how about this:

same thing, except players must approve whether or not they are ready to release information (if they quit, all information is automatically released anyways. OOC comments in orders would be edited out.)

I think only one where selected vetran and experieced nesers can play. This will ensure the quality of play is higher.

EQ you could always collate what you could and then make a thread of it WHEN the nes ends....

that would work as well.

I think the second thread is a great idea, as long as you(Being EQ) put everything in spoilers, so even if a player does venture into the thread "accidently" they have to make a consious choice to cheat.

The problem with spoilers is they still show up in the Subscription Notification emails.... unless there are quote tags inside the spoiler tags....hint hint...

Invitees would be determined by nominations and approval by myself. These people would be trusted not to go to the learning thread to look at what everyone is doing behind the scenes. If they did, they'd soon be out on their ass.
No way to moderate it. No way to determine whether someone is just really good at estimating their enemies or cheating. No way to know if they're reading it and just very subtly processing the information. To do it effectively would take something on the order of the COTM / GOTM system, and we don't have the power for that. Trust is not enough, and any system relying on it exclusively--particularly in a high pressure, high profile setting where performance is being watched and judged--is doomed to fail.

Again, I don't see the point in invitation (and believe me when I say I'm an elitist). As demonstrated by the Impressions thread nobody knows everybody else here well enough to judge with impartiality who is to be allowed and who is not. A much simpler and more equitable solution is to simply make the entire nation list application-based. Anyone can join but only those qualified get the high power spots. Invitations can be sent as a modifier to ensure higher-level talent is notified (should they somehow be ignroant). This allows for the draw of a reasonable number of interested players to make it work while also allowing the capability to ensure "talent" is at the helm.

I still maintain however that the inner working can't be presented until after the game has ended. I also would like to state a not-insubstantial percentage of what occurs in a game is outside of the mod's field of vision, and goes on in back-channels between players on AIM, MSN, PM, etc. Players themselves would have to document such exchanges. It's not a one-man operation; it's a commitment as a group.

Huh, the more you know i guess.:hmm:

Maybe the Sheep solution is better

I still think it would be a grand old experiment.

Let's give it a go then, shall we?

We'll do an easy style to mod, more focused on fun and stories than building and destroying. Back to the Basics NES.

LOL, from Return to our Roots to Back to the Basics

BTOB:lol:

Not all of it. Anyways, diplomacy doesn't change drastically, you can always form alliances, betray and fight wars for land. stories don't change either, and a back to basics NES would be a good way to jumpstart this again.

I think that you more that adequatley qualify Iggy.

I hope to god we dont get a Nes moderator, we all know who has been gunning for that position.

I truthfully have two options for this sub-forum.

1. Create a totally different topic. It might even be seperate from Colosseum. This 'could' help separate the NES from Civ3, but it might anger those who like the Stories and Tales part of the forum.
2. Stay where it is. Currently, it can stay where it is. However, we will need to move it, if a Civ5 comes out, or another event.

We will not move this to Civ4 S&T until it becomes a center for creative storytelling.

Or at least that's my opinion.

I agree with Iggy. Enough nesers spread the word that we get more players as it is.
