Should be off and going next week. Sorry for the delay, y'all. Kittens couldn't wait 2 weeks.

I hope the kittens are okay... they're much more important than a stuffed toy.

They're driving me mad, but are healthy and active.

No just post a photo of them with the yeti

A Pennsylvania number kept calling me and I kept ignoring it thinking it's spam.. but it kept calling and calling every couple days, so tonight I caved in and picked up. And nothing. And then they call back right away, I pick up and I hear somebody breathe and hang up. At this point, I'm wondering what the hell is going on.. So they call again. I pick up.. And it's some lady who starts asking me questions about Yetiworldtour.com, very apprehensively.

So eventually it turns out she's from the place where I bought the domain name at. But the way she approached the whole thing was just bizarre.. She's telling me that she's looking at the map, trying to figure out what it is. And she sounds sort of suspicious, and it's making me suspicious.

Turns out she just wanted to sell me "website making stuff", but couldn't figure out how much I knew and how much of it I would even need. When she asked me what software I used to make the website, I just told her "notepad", which made her even more confused. She kept probing but eventually got all defeated and said: "Ah, so you would have no use for the services I was about to try to sell you" or whatever.. And at that point I figured out what this was all about so I was just honest .. "No, not really". But just totally serious, just cause somebody was asking about my work and I was in that mode

So then she tries to sell me hosting. Goddamn people from Pennsylvania

I should have totally made up a story about how we're shipping an actual live Yeti around the world.. I bet she would have bought that. But I thought it might be somebody poking around looking for a programmer or something, cause she was asking me a bunch about what I used to build the site. So I played nice and played myself up, but nope.. just a weird sales call

Please do not say that the Yeti is not alive in front of the Yeti.

You totally should have. This is beyond bizarre. Every time some company has tried to sell me "website making stuff" it's been by email, not the phone.

But there's always the possibility that if you'd said we were shipping a live Yeti around the world, she would have called PETA and I would have gotten a Care2 alert about it, that I just HAD to sign half a dozen petitions against it...

Web hosting companies are getting pretty desperate.. at least some of them. It has never been this bad, but when my sister's wedding site domain address was about to expire (and she didn't want the site anymore), the place I had the domain through would call and email me a couple times a week. I ignored their pleas for business out of spite.

You should have claimed something terrorism related. We could have gotten so much publicity.

Last company I worked at where we had some web projects we'd get several calls per day from idiots trying to sell us crap.

We settled on a game of rock-paper-scissors where loser had to answer, which usually led to either a hangup once the sales pitch started, or the winner would be named as responsible for purchasing and on vacation for some indeterminate amount of time.

Government should really allow business lines to sign up to the do not call list, it would save those poor sales people a bunch of time and effort.

So where is the yeti? On its way to London, I hope...

I remember years ago some people were playing Risk by post in the UK (this was before e-mail and internet) and one persons letter said something short about bombing somewhere. So the latter was wrongly delivered or something and they got a visit from the police.

I am sure we do not want the police battering down Warpus's door at 5am and taking away his computer etc to investigate.

It hasn't left and won't until the end of this week / start of April. On top of about 70 dollars / week to care for these kittens, I got stuck with a huge vet bill a bit ago and just can't justify mailing the yeti until I get paid.

Maybe that's why my play-by-email game of Civilization (the original board game) got stalled suddenly, several months ago... I've had a war going on with Thrace for millennia now (I play Crete). :hmm:

Yeah, never again

We're off tomorrow, folks!

Awesome! :D
