The Great Great People Name Contest

China

Great stateswoman:

Cixi (She got replaced by that other LH because she was too ugly, right?)

Cixi is not generally thought highly of by the Chinese and is widely regarded as an ineffectual ruler who
failed at managing domestic and foreign affairs and too conservative-minded at a time when the Empire needed to be progressive.
I do not believe she is a good candidate for Great Stateswoman.

She was Macedonian. I figured Greek came the closest to that.

It's a little insulting in fact. It's like saying that George Wasington is Mexican from new Mexico.

So I guess her inclusion has to wait until I add the FYROMian civilization.

I already included Mother Teresa in one of my previous lists, and listed her as Indian,
meeting Leoreth's criteria of where the GP completed most of their work or naturalized as;
rather than where they were born.

Yep that works for me.

Yes, in China we always consider Cixi as a fatuous woman, instead of Cixi, I suggest Soong Ching ling(Sun Yat-sen's wife) as a great female stateman, she protected a lot of people from persecution in the Great Cultural Revolution, and also she is the honourary chairman of China.

I definitely believe your opinion as a native Chinese should be valued more than any rambling from stupid Belgians :hatsoff:

So do I just post a list of the people I believe should go in that fit in the types of Great People?

Yep, simply post them in the appropriate thread, they're linked in the OP.

Done, thank you!

Thank you.

It was an honest mistake.

I wouldn't say "stupid Belgian" either considering it was a Belgian in the first place
who I consider one of the few famous Western figures to actually "get" Chinese culture and understand where it comes from.
He's known for this famous comic album:

It's definitely offensive and dated in the parts with the depictions of the Japanese
but it offered one of the first contemporary humanizing depictions of the Chinese in the Western world (Apart from Pearl S. Buck)
during a time when Sax Rohmers and Jack Londons the world over painted the Chinese as people to be exterminated or exploited
and the viewpoint was relatively mainstream.

Anyways, on topic, I recall skimming and seeing that mythological figures would be accepted for Polynesian GPs.
I think within this section, we should make some compromises with the existing rules and try this:
-We can include mythological figures, but they should at least be plausible and be reviewed. I would prefer not to see any of the Atua as Polynesian GPs.
-Make an exception for Polynesian Great People who are naturalized citizens of other countries.

What do you all think?

I agree. Naturalized citizens of other nations are definitely okay. The reason I also consider legendary or semi-historical (you can never know for oral traditions) people valid is because most of the Polynesian game is spent in an era where using the name of modern people would seem out of place. Considering the usual Polynesian UHV strategy, that is especially true for artists.

I mistakenly posted a post for another thread here - my apologies.

Just quote it where it belongs.
