The "I Got A New Game!" Thread

The only thing I'd criticize is buying it on the 360, because every review of the 360 version I read was BAD (Ars Technica didn't even write a complete review because of how bad it was) whereas on the PC its doing a lot better. The game itself looks good enough and has already had its first patch, too bad the SP doesn't really exist but eh if the MP is good enough I mgiht buy it on sale later.

Actually the ArsTech article basically said they didn't want to review it yet because the pre-release 360 version they were given to review was bad - for Ben to review that version would be pointless, given that the version people were playing after release wouldn't be the same.

But yeah, it's gotten its fair share of hatin; that's the risk of any game that tries to innovate, especially an FPS that deviates from the proven CoD formula. And turns out at least one of the worst reviews it got was from a guy who played it for an hour or so, decided he hated it, and went on to spew a bunch of subjective nonsense because he didn't get it. The laughable inaccuracies were pointed out right away - along with some sleuthing that revealed how little time he spent playing - and the review got pulled.

Still, it's definitely not going to have universal appeal, but I've been really enjoying it when playing online with a group of friends. If you like co-op focused games with an emphasis on using teamwork to complete objectives (like TF2, Left 4 Dead, etc) you might dig this. I just made the comment to you because the enemies are spongy as all hell - no one-shot kills here. (That will likely improve as I unlock better weapons and abilities and actually learn to aim, though. There's absolutely zero aim assist here.)

Oh, and I bought on 360 because that's where I'm gonna get the multiplayer action. For better or worse, more of my friends do their gaming on Xbox than on PC.

Picked up Pokemon White about a week ago. Very fun game.

I just got the sixth badge, my team is:

LV 41 Chandelure
LV 40 Eelektrik
LV 40 Seismitoad
LV 39 Emboar
LV 39 Archeops
LV 41 Reuniclus

The game is a refreshing mixture of familiarity with new features. Best of all is probably that you do not encounter Pokemon from any of the previous games until after you beat the Elite Four. Triple Battles are interesting, the fully animated sprites are awesome. They've added seasons, which change both the Pokemon you find and the environment you find them in (there's a mountain that's really only accessible in the winter time). Shaky grass/whirling dust is a very neat feature, and I like the set of dual rivals you have. Team Plasma is weird.

There are some things that annoy me, though. First, they took away the HG/SS feature of your lead Pokemon following you around. Sadface. Second, moves are becoming more powerful. I don't just mean in their power ratings, but what they do also. For example, there are new moves in this generation that increase 3 stats. Three stats! And many others that are guaranteed to increase one stat every turn. Not a chance, a guarantee. It reminds me of the trend in Magic: The Gathering towards a more Yu-gi-Oh style of play, where big and powerful guys enter the field almost immediately, and devastating spells or abilities can be played within the first few turns, and exist in myriads. Yes, it adds challenges to the game, but it makes winning itself all the easier for any one person. The drawn-out battle of wits and stamina is fading.

All in all, I think it's a great game, probably better than Diamond and Pearl.

I loved that game. I can't help with the Mac setup / configuration aspect of it, but if you need any help with specific areas of the game or just general hints or tips, I might be able to provide some assistance.

It mostly appears to be my computer. I tend to move slower and watch my surroundings more closely before advancing. It's still a very fun game, when I have time to play it.

BTW, I've gained a new "challenge" to Portal that is making the game a lot more difficult. My daughter (4 years old) loves to watch me play Portal (the robot game), which means she sits in my lap, hence the new "challenge difficulty" to playing it!

Ah, but that's personal taste - something entirely subjective.

Personally, I feel Rome is better, if only because of all the good mods available.

Playing XC and using massive Hypapist spam against the puny Romans is a true pleasure. But, then again, that is also subjective.

Just L.A. Noire for the 360. Persistence really pays off for these cases. That Achievement for $47000 worth of damage will be fun to get.

This.

Or to be more precise:

MTW > modded RTW > STW > vanilla RTW > STW2 > MTW2 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> ETW

What features did mtw have that M2TW didn't have? M2TW has improved graphics and AI so it's hard to believe you would rank its predecessor higher.

There's a Total War subforum here. That's kind of interesting.

Not really a matter of having better "features", but it was just way more fun to play.

And I wouldn't call the 2nd one's AI better. TW AI has always been, and likely always will be, equally crap.

After watching a LP on youtube I just bought Terraria.

I got L.A. Noire! It's pretty good! I'll post a writeup in the review thread when I have a few minutes. For now, I'd recommend it if you love the noir genre and enjoyed GTA4 or Red Dead Redemption, as it's very much a "Rockstar Game" in that sense.
