The "I Got A New Game!" Thread

I just started Dead Space 2 and man, it's even better than the first so far (only an hour in). We'll have to wait and see if the overall story is as good but the game is basically more polished graphics and controls which makes sense considering it's 2.5 years newer than 1. Really excited to play this the next couple weeks.

Here's my Summer Sale haul:

Borderlands 2
Dark Souls
Saints Row 3
Reus
Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion
Call of Duty: Black Ops II
Battlefield: Bad Company 2

This madness needs to stop now before I spend any more money. Those games should keep me busy for a long time.

I've just bought Bastion, time to play. :D

It's overrated once the novelty wears off. I guess you can grind crystals/money to unlock all the gear and pick all the idols for an extreme challenge (if you don't understand what that means yet keep playing and you'll get to it) but otherwise it's rather dull. Still you probably got it on steam sale for like $3, not a bad use of money.

I also got dark souls and nba2k13 on sale and bought an xbox controller for pc just to play them lol. Possibly overkill but reviews say dark souls is impossible without. I'm such a keyboard/mouse player though, I tried both on dead space and couldn't make the switch.

Yep. The devs of Dark Souls admitted themselves they had no idea what they were doing when they ported to PC. It should be better with the sequel.

This is probably the sale where I've bought the least stuff. It seems I have almost everything.

Probably gonna pick up Tropico 4 complete today...
I got Reus and Psycho DLC for Borderlands 2...

I hesitated about the Fallen Enchantress newest version that is up today but... Still too expensive and am busy with Civ 5 and possibly Tropico 4.

I play Dark Souls just fine with the keyboard & mouse.

I did install dsfix and dsmfix tho. But the game is unplayable without them anyway. (maximum resolution 1024*768 stretched to screen size - really ?)

What the heck are you talking about? I don't know why you'd ever need to grind crystals, especially since you can't as you can't go back to the areas after you have completed them. Unlocking more idols is entirely optional for people who want to keep replaying the game with increasing challenge.

Sure the gameplay isn't particularly amazing (its mostly point and spam LMB), but the real meat of the game is in the art, music, and particularly the narration which are all extremely well done. Certainly far better than a lot of AAA games I've played.

He voiced his opinion before. IIRC we came to the conclusion that he either hates it because everyone likes it or he hates it because it's fun and he hates fun or he's an aspie.

It's entirely possible to be illogical or just plain wrong and still be neurotypical, you know?

You can grind crystals in that smoking pipe dream world to collect all the equipment upgrades etc for fun if your into 100% completion on games. Some of the arena challenges are hard and fun to do. It's more fun than most the levels. And once you have enough good gear you can turn on all the idols to make the game challenging. The levels are all super easy and dull. I agree the music and art style are superb but I get bored after an hour of it.

If I'm entertained for 15 minutes, I'd say my $3 will have been worthwhile. I've spent more money on buying outfits for 100 pixel tall characters in Dota 2. :p

I expect an hour's entertainment per pound I spend. A distressingly small number of games match that rubric.

Eh, I agree with civver's assessment of Bastion. I got it from a Humble Bundle, a quite pretty game but not particularly fun.

I picked up Bastion on the $2-3 sale a couple days ago, and it really strikes me as the kind of game I'll play for a bit when my mind is burned out from too much heavy RPG/strategy. It's light and fun, and has a really cool atmosphere. It's underlying ARPG substance however, is a tad lacking. Torchlight 2 has far superior raw gameplay, and a similar style.

It's nice that you can flip it on, play a level or challenge for 10-20 mins and turn if off easily. It's good to have casual games around like that for those small down times. Civ5 takes too long to load and other games usually save too far apart.

An hour per dollar spent though seems a bit low, but it depends so much on the type of game. I'll definitely take 5-10 hours of a really good game over 20 hours of mediocrity. It's rare for me to get a game I really don't enjoy though.

I doubt I can run Chivalry: Medieval Warfare with my laptop, but I'm purchasing it at a fair price for a future day when I get a decent PC.
