What's the meaning behind Jesus' middle initial H when people shout "Jesus H. Christ!"? Is it just a random joke on middle initials?

Extension of Jesus Christ with a fantastical middle initial, perhaps derived from a reading of ΙΗΣ, a Greek-alphabet abbreviation for Jesus (ΙΗΣΟΥΣ) as three initials in Latin letters. See "Christogram" at Wikipedia.

A common joke is that it stands for Harold and comes from a mispronunciation when doing the Lord's prayer: "Our father, who art in heaven, Harold be thy name". I don't know if that's the actual origin of it though.

Haha, intesting. The latter theory would also explain why it only comes up in English ;) Thanks.

I had always thought the initial was added to imply it was a different Jesus Christ, and not taking to Lord's name in vain. That would still need an explanaton of the H, though.

On most sinks the trap comes off pretty easy for access if you can't clear it any other way.
The coathanger-turned-drain snake worked like a charm.

Also, there is no way I'm taking the sink apart as it is in a dorm room and school property!

I thought it stood for 'holy' as in "Jesus Holy Christ!"?

Then the school has a maintenance department to call to handle those things :p

It took them six months to fix a broken toilet and over seven months to fix a broken shower head. I lack faith in the ability of plant maintnence to come to my aid quickly.

I think it is probably preferable to learn on somebody else's sink now than your own sink later!

I had a good chance to talk to a girl today that I really am quite fond of, but circumstances got in the way of allowing that to happen. I'd waited for the moment all day so I was a bit disappointed when it never actually happened. But never mind, I should see her again before the week is out, so I can try again.

My question is, however, is it even worth initiating conversation with someone when I'm not even sure they like me? We're in the same class together, and a few weeks ago I noticed that she was glancing at me quite a lot. Since then, though, she hasn't really noticed me. I really hope my 'ship hasn't sailed' so to speak, because I've convinced myself that to get over my previous girlfriend I must not be held back and grab any opportunities that arise. I don't want to let her disappear without even having tried talking to her.

There's no harm in initiating a conversation. She may potentially turn to be a great compatible person for you to be friends with or, as you want, a potential mate. If not, oh well. No loss.

The worst that can happen is that she shuts you down cold and tells you what a useless boyfriend you'll make to any girl alive.

Anything else is a positive. :D

I think the only fit is "American", which is a different pattern, I know. But I can't think of anything else in use.

"Amero-".
