I have a question.

I'm writing an essay that's due tomorrow and I need one more thing to talk about. I need an idea on how America can lose weight. I have childhood exercise, I have childhood eating, I have taxes on fatty food, drinks and cars. Any other ideas?

mandated military conscription and training

Question: What's the difference between hypocrisy and double standards?

having double standards implies hypocrisy

Tax sugar. Public awareness campaigns. More medical access for the poor.

I'll use the last one. :) Thanks. I had a paragraph about poor people being fatter, but I had no idea where I was going with it so I put it away, but I'll bring it out again. The first two I already did (I talked about Mrs. Obama's campaign and implementing a fat and soda tax).

Problems the poor often have with nutrician are often first, they don't know the right things. Second, they don't see doctors often enough to get told the right things in ways that make it stick, and third they often live in food deserts, where the better foods are difficult to come by and the worse foods are easy to come by.

Educational reform to include dietary planning and education involving healthy lifestyles. Incorporating cooking exercises optional but recommended.

But since you already picked something, I guess it's a moot suggestion. :(

Edit: If you do plan on pursuing my idea, also be sure to include a type of bulletin board suggestion for local school boards to advocate farmers markets and other types of organic exchanges! Perhaps also listing links for web resources for determining accurate nutritional values of certain foods would help too.

Thanks. :) You're awfully kind to help me. TBH my brain shuts down after 9 o'clock.

Actually I think I will use that idea too. I didn't actually talk about education at all. Thanks!

Question: What's the difference between hypocrisy and double standards?

Hypocrisy is more of a general attitude, double standards are specific things. Hypocrisy is generally found in individuals, whereas double standards may be observed in groups of people. Hypocrisy doesn't necessarily mean there's a double standard in place. For example, it was hypocritical of Ted Haggard to snort meth and have sex with male prostitutes while publicly condemning all of those things, but unless he believed it was somehow right for him and wrong for everyone else, there wouldn't be an actual double standard in his worldview.

No.

Just....

No.

It is the path to fascism and authoritarianism.

Plus, anyone who enters the military, voluntarily or involuntarily, *always* come out as uber-conservative, regardless of previous leanings.

So no. No military crap.

I'm apparently late and my suggestion is pure heresy but still, tax gas instead of cars. Double the price or something equally radical - not really a realistic option I know.
Based on national experiences taxing cars leads to older and cheaper cars while taxing gas reduces driving. Whether this reduced driving converts to increased cycling or walking is a matter of hope in these days when one barely has to leave home if that's one's will. Good luck with the essay.
