The new infraction system explained

how does this translate to "the road to permaban"?

From the opening post:
As noted above, there are a few exceptions to the zero point start. For those few posters who have in the past been singled out for special treatment known as “the Road”, this category of punishment has been terminated in its entirety. Instead, you will begin with 37 points that will expire in 30 days. If you watch your behavior for a month, your point balance will drop to zero. All future points will expire in 12 months. The status of those posters already permabanned will not change.

As I said, I think there oughta be levels of expiration. What exactly those would be up to debate but it seems more logical than slapping 12 months on everything. I mean, posting a silly thread and making really nasty flames to a person get the same expiration although maybe not the same points. But it doesnt seem logical

Is that even possible in the forum software?

Yeah, 1 pointers currently expire in 10 days and 2 pointers stay for 30 days or something.

I think a short 12 hour or 24 hour minimum ban should exists. If for example you are in a heated thread and say something stupid, 12 or 24 hours is a nice cool down period rather than 3 days.

I agree with this.

@mods I think that discussing about everybody's opinons about the revised infraction system, and picking out the best ideas, and changing some would be the best way to go right now.

Status quo, I suspect. We just PB them. TF has a history of not deleting users, and it probably stems from that. Plus it helps us track them.

And calling it piracy comes from a time before anyone on this site was born.

Well, if you go back far enough in history, you can find some deleted users.

how can you navigate this forum without being able to read english?

I mostly. navigate the forums without reading.

You guys visit these forums more than once per day?

I never leave except to sleep, an I do less of that recently.

I had a thought. Your discussions of these rule revision proposals are taking a very long time. So maybe you need some fresh perspectives. What if you created a new, temporary, category of staff for advisers. That way you could pick a handful of people that you could allow to sit in on your private discussions, and hopefully get the discussions moving? They wouldn't be moderators, and would have no moderator power or responsibilities. And, as a temporary appointment, would be revoked whenever it was done with.

I think the problem is actually we have too many perspectives. :ack:

We don't have a lack of ideas, it's just deciding on what is the right one.

And the holiday schedules of many mods has slowed down our discussions. Poster response is not being ignored or forgotten and has active support among many mods. We are regrouping for the next push. :)

The re-writing of the rules has generally been received well.

The adjustment of the points systems has been revealed as flawed. (It was broken)

Problem is, it is the second which would take the most work to make any progress. Also, neither the rule changes nor a change in the way points are given out will tackle the problem this whole debate was started. Specific posters, not breaking rules but destroying discussion. Why was the Constanza Rule not implemented? :(

The Constanza Rule should be used by users, not by mods. Please don't implement it as a rule...

Eh? Isn't that anyone being a jerk can be infracted? We have no power to infract.. or you think we should just report?

"Don't be a jerk" should be a guideline for users to follow, but "being a jerk" shouldn't be used by mods to justify infractions.

I'd trust them with that power.

That's all well and good for you.
