Well, I'm voting Romney regardless in November. Be it by checking the box or by writing him in as I did in 2008.
You... of all the people to WRITE IN, you picked Mittens? WTH dude.

I'm going to go way out on a limb hereand say no, Newt is not dead.
I've been making basically your same point for a while now. Only I always regarded it as a little more probable than not, that not-Mitt would win the nomination.
Nobody could possibly explain it better than Stephen Colbert:

Fast forward to about 2:00 and prepare to laugh yer posterior off.
Isn't Newt doing better now? I think polls even show he has a lead in Florida over Mitt.
Irrelevant. Gingrich doesn't have the steam to catch up to Romney right now.
So, with the full interview of Gingrich's second wife coming out tonight on ABC, do you think Newt will suffer a fate similar to Herman Cain? (We all know Newt won't drop out over this, but his support numbers could suffer.)
This is surprising to you? I've been, since 2008, a vocal Mitt supporter. Of all the people I could write in, why wouldn't I write in Mitt given my support?You... of all the people to WRITE IN, you picked Mittens? WTH dude.

In what sense does he lack "core values"? It seems to me that his "core values" are simply in the mainstream, so don't elicit the same volume of comment as the various lunatics that the Republican Party has managed to dredge up from the bottom of whatever lake these creatures live in.That's the part that surprises me. The guy has no core values and is basically the John Kerry of the GOP.

While we're talking about "core values", I find it hilarious that most of the Republican criticism of Gingrich consists of "he's not a real conservative".
In what way are you hearing that Newt isn't conservative enough?
His "core values" keep changing and are always whatever he thinks people want to hear.
I think perhaps we're not all on the same page as to what is meant by "core values". To me, these seem like specific issues, rather than the basic political-ethical principles that underlie them. The subjective weight lent to any given issue isn't a direct indicator of its philosophical centrality, especially not with- as conservative abortion politics- they're so drenched in emotivism.Mitt Romney has publicly flipped on abortion, gun control, gay marriage, insurance mandates, and other political issues that are very important to Conservatives.
