The Next NES of Das: Development Thread

Still no answer on the era thingey?

Missed it. Actually I'm not too sure; I did say something roughly equivalent to Late Middle Ages, but the chances of a perfect fit aren't too high. I do want to reach a time where nations in the main civilised areas are already more or less established, but before any particularily significant voyages of oceanic exploration - however, that is all very preliminary.

I will do several BT updates, as new civilised zones become available; new players will be able to join there, and old ones would get to deal with a new set of problems if they survive this long, or will have to rise back from the dead in some way or another if they don't. Then when I reach a suitable time the BTs will end.

About the troops on the map - a separate map would work (though it could be very time-consuming; I will probably only show the larger armies there in most cases). I suppose I should also keep using numbers there, then.

True enough, and I'm just more used to it, as is my map iconography. I think I'll just be keeping that after all - easier that way, really.

True. You do that. :p

That's all nice and stuff. Map-wise, I really don't care, although the second one would have been much easier to work with...I might have even included maps in my orders. Oh well.

I also want to know if there's anything I can do to dibs Rome.

Of course, after a BT Rome will either be collapsed or drastically reduced- you may end up playing Italy or something like that. :p

Okay, where's my box of polar bear stories? Time to open up a can of...well, you know...on them penguins!

I would prefer NES VII, but failing that, the Advanced Fresh Start would find itself with more than one Hellenic nutcase ;)

the second map is better, but use whatever you like the most/feel most comfortable with.

As for armies, cant you put their general whereabouts in the stats where you list them, i.e. "the Crimea," or "French Pyrennes" etc.?

A map still will be easier to work with (especially for the players, but also for myself) - all information will be in one place as opposed to being scattered between the stats.

I still do not like armies placed on the map...it's...so...ugly...

I call China-Korea-Japan area! Where exactly is still a mystery...

das, whatever happened with the polar bear civil war?

All will be revealed in due time! But you can assume that your stories take place prior to it. Or after - the civil war won't change all that much, especially on the Empire's periphery.

Are you doing a bloody fresh start than? Who shall do that great Alt history then?

*shrugs*

Work on the rules coming along well. A questtion, though - should I keep spotlights? They often felt rather forced later into ITNES, so I'll probably get rid of them - still, your thoughts would be appreciated.

I could just write about it in greater detail normally, you know. ;) That's like a spotlight, only not separated from the rest of potentially-relevant information. Should actually be easier to read.

I still may find a way to get some quotes in there. Also, I have some other ideas for adding more detail and flavour into the NES, thought I probably shouldn't speak of them yet, for the fear of failing to deliver upon my promises. We'll see how it all works out.
