The Omega Project: Development Thread

@Recon- Thanks for the offer, I'm sure I'll need to call on you guy's when test time comes.(OT-BTW,I'm almost done with my second turn on SOE and will update my report thread tonight or tomorrow.;) )

@Bluemofia- No I don't mind at all.(BTW-Thanks for asking though.)

@Quinzy- Thanks Bud,good to know.

In other news- I've downloaded the source code and build software for Mechcommander2 from the Microsoft website along with obtaining help from a top MC2 moder(Wolfman) in an attempt to extract sounds, graphics and unit animations for conversion to civIII. If successful I may also start a pure Battletech Mod as well. Stay tuned....

EDIT- Sorry, I didn't see your post before I typed this one T.A. Were you talking to me or Rage?

Storm,

If u don't have them i have the 2 expansion packs for MW4 with the inner spere and clan mechs. When u're ready let me know and and i'll try and send u the right files if u don't have them.

You mean already extracted from the game in regular file types(gif,tga,wav,etc..)? Cause the Mechcommander series is probably packed using a different type of build software than the MW series.

No i have the cd's, I haven't had it installed for a few yrs now. But i can try to install it all again if u wish and let u know.

Oh i also have the MC gold and MC2 games as well.

@ recon and anyone willing to read. OT

Spoiler :
Its just that I think witholding info and art is selfish. I mean, why? What are you affraid of? It also makes people that want to learn something go and play your mod that they actually don`t like, so they can check all the screws and bolts, and modding & playing is supposed to be fun.

If you did a good job, people will play it, no matter if they know whats in it, or already have (and use) the art from it. If you sucked at it.. well.. there ain`t no unit maker in the world that will fix a bad mod.

Just my 2 cents. And the signature doesn`t reffer to any other member of CFC but one, and that ain`t you.

Storm_Buddy - any oonits you might need? I`d like to see the request list, just to have it in mind when manipulating people

Well, I'll just PM bluemofia and Spacer_one, and once I've got enough info to go on, I'll just do some tests and then I'll write a tutorial in the tutorial forums about how to get units to teleport, and nobody will be able to do a damn thing about it. How's that grab ya?

I aggree with Stormrage's last statement: This secrecy and elitism is only going to hurt the modding community, especially those of us who are alredy juggling school and work while working on a massive mod, and for whom it would be much faster to just be able to read about how to do it rather than downloading a 1 GB mod (which might be pushing what little free space is on my HD) and trying to reverse engineer it.

As someone once said, "If it's secret and elite, it can't be good."

Normally I'd be staring on my next unit right now, but this non-sharing of info has gotten me pissed off enough to put all my graphics work on hold to dig into this teleport feature and test it out myself just to spite the elitists on this forum.

...
i'll be the first to repent, and i swear that any new discoveries i make shal be shared on my mods thread. i dont have anything new ATM, but i'll keep exploring.

Already done. Anything new that you find out, please add to that thread. :)

Sorry Odin, but the attacking nature and tone of this post, (which I can't tell if it's directed at me or not.) has hit me kind of hard. It really took away my drive to do anything with this mod for now.....

Storm,

Don't let PRICKS like him and others ruin it for u and the others that await a mod like this 1. We sure don't, So why should u.

No, it was not directed at you specifically... Just the elitists on these forums who think that they are the only ones who should know how to do all the neat stuff with the game. It just cheesed me off that Kingpin was sitting on something this big without sharing. THankfully, Bluemofia came through, and I'm in a better mood, now.

I am looking forward to this mod, however, and will download and play it once I get enough time (as in when the FF mod is done).

Once again, I never would attack you over this issue, after all, Yo're just following orders.....

For me, I look it at the perspective from both sides. The people who have uncovered things, may keep it a secret to attract support for their mod, and not publicly announce how it works until the mod is released.

From the other side, if all modders kept the secrets of moding a secret, no one would know how to mod effectivly. If they kept their art files all a secret, then no one would have really good graphics for their mods. Not many mods these days use the techniques developed by the modders themselves alone, or graphics of the modders themselves.

So for me, keeping certain aspects of the game secret temperarily is perfectly fine, but keeping everything you learn is not. (that includes graphics that are made, and techniques that are discovered)

Personally, I take on the perspective taking note that not too long ago, I was one of those clueless people, and openly share my information.

Ok, enough beating this dead horse......

Storm, My next unit pack (after I get the elf gunpowder units done) will be a series of 4 Al Bhed machina units.... Basically they would fit into your mod probably as scout/hunter-killer robots. I was wondering if you'd be interested in using any of them?

Yeah, the first two era (for the Al bhed) will be two-legged bots, the first with melee attack, and the second that shoots steel bolts via spring-loaded thingamahiky... The first will come with metal working and be made of bronze, but the second will be at engineering and be steel....

THe last two will be 4-legged machina armed with guns (which is why I said the first two might be usable in this mod as scouts), the industrial era one with gatling turrets, and the modern era one with lasers.

Hey Storm Grunt, check out this new mech Bjorn is making:
