The "OMG! Look what happened in DoC!" Thread

It really messed up my game, the fact that I had this super-Tamils with every tech of the Euros plus more, that they reached Nationalism by 1550. Felt so ahistorical.

Russia just respawned and forgot to flip Jaroslavl and Saint-Petersburg. Is this normal ?

Were you stable or solid? That stops respawns from flipping your cities (though I've heard if you only have 1 or 2- evidently not in your case- they still flip anyway).

Yes, it's based on your stability and a number of other factors (far away cities are harder to keep than close ones). The special rule you're probably referring to is that if a civ flips all but 1-2 possible cities, these flip too regardless of stability.

I was between stable and solid in this part of the game.

This, naturally, results in a Mega-Spain. Not in the traditional sense, mind you (as it is England that owns/vassalizes most of the Americas), but like this:

Do you know what all the cities in this image have in common (except Thailand)? They're all owned by Spain, directly or indirectly.

In fact, in the game I'm playing, there are lost of unconventional stuff I think given I mess around like a ret@rd. Anyways, I found my answer why Yerushalayim got Buddism.
I founded Hinduism and that religion went to Phoenician Jerusalem and then they built the first Hindu temple, which means triggering the Buddism founding.

Innovative solution in city placement ;D

My guess is that it's either a bug with the Vladivostok event or that there's a continental border there, like in central Asia.

I wonder what China was doing in the meantime. Maybe searching for gyros?

No screenshot, but playing as France in the 600 AD scenario, I had Orthodoxy spread to Paris and Bordeaux, probably due to the Open Borders treaty I signed with the Byzantines.

The Byzantines build missionaries like crazy when they're not at war.

Now that you mention it, I have seen quite a few Byzantine Orthodox missionaries in my games. I had been playing as Russia and Poland, so it wasn't a problem. But I wonder if maybe the Byzzies should only send missionaries to convert the cities of civs without a state religion? This would ensure that they still attempt to convert Russia to Orthodoxy, and further incentivize (Human) Poland to conquer Kiev, instead of just waiting for an Orthodox missionary to show up. Ideally the Norse will have converted to Catholicism by the time a Byzantine missionary made its way to that part of Europe. Also, I'm not sure if this is true, but it seems to me that the Byzzies could put those hammers to better use than missionary spam.

Or is it intended that one should not open borders with the Byzantines if you're not running a Theocracy and you don't want Orthodoxy spread in your cities?

Don't open your borders with Byzantium if you aren't in Theocracy.
