The "OMG! Look what happened in DoC!" Thread

I can't recall ever seeing communist England, now that I think about it.

On the subject of DCNs, I see "Portuguese Government in Exile" far to often. Is it possible to dissuade Spain from DoWing Portugal?

I'd rather have Portugal collapse as soon as it loses Lisbon. IMHO civs can survive without their core area way too long.

Yeah, if any civ should be able to survive without their core, it's Portugal (and usually they do a good job at it). I do wish they'd relocate their capital to Brazil rather than Punta Delgada more often, though.

They can, but it just happens almost every game. It's not a question of will Portugal will lose Lisbon, it's when.

Not necessarily. I've seen some really powerful Portugal situations before.

Of course, if Spain is doing remarkably bad it's Portugal's opportunity to thrive, but in most cases, it is a second rate power for most of the game.

Funny thing, I was playing just now, and guess what?

"Lisbon (Portuguese) has been captured by the Spanish Empire!!!"
"Portugal has capitulated and is now a vassal state of Spain."

Spain does collapse fairly often (more than, say, France), in which case Portugal takes advantage of its opportunity.

I often saw notification of Civ Collapse and popup with reason: lose core area.
Why doesn't the same thing happen to Portugal when Lisbon is taken by Spain or to Dutch when Amsterdam is taken by France?

I got a lovely truffle event at the turn I won.

Portugal has Ponta Delgada in its core area. I really don't know about the Dutch.

I would've been impressed but it's just China.

(Maybe their UP needs an expiration after all.)

I have made some experiment (using WorldBuider), took my Phoenicians from Levant to North America, and ...in 389 turn there is another exotic event - the roman invasion on the continent. At least two consular army. How do they found me? ;)

The evil Holy Roman general rampaged his way through the Italian peninsula, hellbent of total domination.

However, he never anticipated the brave and daring move of the resistance's best corps.

Robotics in the 18th century.

I have much to learn.

I'm not even going to try to comprehend how you are solid.

I am about 2 turns to complete 2 SS engines, which was my last spaceship part. I researched every tech for space race.

My strategy:

Luoyang, Shanghai, Fuzhou(on stone), 4th city is Lu'er-dao(Kagoshima, Japan gold), and 5th Qingsen(Aomori, Japan silver). Oracle currency; research machinery and build the grand canal ASAP. 2 Japan city build nothing but workers and settlers (let'em flip when Jap spawns); conquer India about turn 160-170. Build Mauseleum of Mausollos (conquer Persia to get Z'ism), forget UHV #1 and you can get near-perpetual golden age.
