The "OMG! Look what happened in DoC!" Thread

Ran an autoplay up to 1950 AD and hot damn Roosevelt really loves fascism:

They were the USSA in a recent game I played and made probably the most impressive AI empire I've seen. Cities on 6 continents spanning from Canada to South America and across Europe, Africa, Madagascar, Indonesia and a solitary city in Australia for good measure. This was around 2150AD from a 600AD Celts start

That worldmap is so funny. Everyone else has collapsed except for Japan, Iran, Norway, Ireland, Mexico and Colombia?

Yep. By around 2200 it was only me and Japan left. In future era games I've played, Japan can't or won't leave their home islands and have no one interested in invading so can pretty much survive forever. I think if they fall behind earlier they have no access to modern resources for modern units, so the AI never sees itself as capable of attacking even indie cities. Whereas the Americas civs seem to routinely launch cross continental invasions. I've seen the USA, Canada, Argentina and Brazil capture cities in Europe, Asia and Africa (although this game Canada seemed stuck in their eastern territories and did nothing until super America wiped them out, (main caveat with this game is that I think it was played on the easiest difficulty so teching was unusually slow))

Has anyone seen AI controlled France or any other continental European civ (besides the Norse) launching a successful invasion of England?
I've seen Norse destroying England early and holding Danelaw entire game once. Not exactly what you've asked for tho.

Also have seen Poland taking Paris and vassalizing France. Poland is a weird beast that is a non-factor in most games, but seldom (20%?) it becomes a beast, consuming entire Central Europe. I wonder what causes it...

Maybe weak Ruthenia that is quickly conquered and turned into a very efficient troops production base.

"Hanging Chads" a Firaxis developer was still salty so soon after 2000.

To be fair that incident and the stuff that surrounds it was why we got the president who took the US into Iraq. That doesn't happen otherwise. 9/11 and Afghanistan yeah probably but not Iraq and that war public opinion on it in 2006 or so when that was written was in full collapse.
